Thank you for watching. This is manpiku from Occhii-ch. Today, I’d like to take a walk through the Takehara Townscape Preservation District in Hiroshima Prefecture. Let’s get started! Takehara City’s Honmachi Street: Aki’s Little Kyoto . Takehara, known as the “Little Kyoto of Aki” for its history as a prosperous estate for Kyoto’s Shimogamo Shrine during the Heian period, is known as the “Little Kyoto of Aki. ” Its symbol is the townscape preservation district, designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government, exuding a tranquil atmosphere. During the Edo period, the area rapidly developed as a salt-producing region, and its prosperous economy produced many outstanding scholars, including brothers Yori Shunsui, Shunpu, and Kyohei, as well as Rai Sanyo. The stately homes born out of the flourishing salt fields and townspeople’s culture remain a testament to the region’s past. (From the Hiroshima Takehara Tourism Navigation website) Today, I’d like to take a walk through the “Takehara Townscape Preservation District.” I’d like to take a few detours and explore the alleyways. I’d like to go up the stairs to Saihoji Temple, where I can see the cityscape of Takehara City from a building called Fumeikaku. The view was worth the climb. Let’s go down and continue our stroll through the town. Up ahead, there are bronze statues of “Massan” and “Rita,” so let’s say hello. Next, I’d like to try the alley on the left. I’ll try the alley to the right of Nakanokoji later. I’ve turned back from Okoji . Let’s take the alley on the left. The alley ahead turns left, and I’ll head back to Honmachi Street. Itayakoji Honmachi Street Today, I walked through Takehara City’s preservation district. I wanted to see some old houses, but it was early in the morning, so they weren’t open yet.
