Seomyeon
Seomyeon is Busan’s bustling commercial center, located in Busanjin-gu, and is often called the “Times Square” of Busan. Maechukji Village
Maechukji Village, located in Beomil 5-dong, Dong-gu, Busan, is a “village where time stands still” in the city center. It was formed by the Japanese military horse stables built on land created by the Busanjin reclamation project between 1927 and 1932. Korean War refugees renovated the stables and settled there, transforming it into a shantytown. It remains a historic site steeped in the joys and sorrows of modern and contemporary history. The landscape of narrow alleys and old houses is nicknamed “Sammu Samda” (meaning “no telephone, no car, no day-coal briquettes, no boards, no houses”). The preserved Maechukji Cultural Center, Ahn Yong-bok’s birthplace, and the remains of a stable make it a popular dark tour destination. It’s also famous as a filming location for the movie “The Man from Nowhere,” and Swanyang Bunsik’s nostalgic pork cutlet restaurant is a must-visit. As this village is gradually disappearing due to redevelopment, it offers a quiet stroll where you can reminisce about Busan’s past.
