Mid-September 2025. My family is working away from home in Kitami City. We’re currently in Kitami City. Corgi travel, van life with a corgi. Osa, Mama-chan, and Kotaro. Preparing breakfast. Cabbage and tuna salad. Ham and egg bowl. Breakfast is ready. I’m getting used to eating breakfast alone. My favorite miso-pickled ginger. Dressing: ponzu and olive oil. Meanwhile, Osa… That’s a lot. Today I have an early coffee break, so I buy some tea and sweets at a nearby confectionery shop. Daimaru Confectionery. I got some bean daifuku. Their Western-style pastries look delicious, too. A long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Kitami City. Famous for their “dorayaki” and “hocchare.” They also have seasonal limited editions. Many popular items sell out quickly. Coffee time. Enjoying a book while waiting. Skin-to-skin contact with Kotaro, who prefers play over skin-to-skin contact. A generous amount of smooth bean paste. Soft and fluffy mochi. The smooth bean paste has just the right sweetness. The black beans are also delicious. Kotaro also loves cheese. After this, we head to the Mint Memorial Museum in Kitami City, a town famous for its mint. Kitami Mint Memorial Museum. Mint Distillery. At the distillery, mint distillation demonstrations are held. The aroma of freshly distilled mint fills the air. The mint stills from that time are on display. A rainwater kettle still and a box steamer still. A Tanaka-style mint still is on display. Mint products are also for sale. Kitami Mint Memorial Museum. The museum was built in 1935 by the current Hokuren Agricultural Cooperative Federation as a research laboratory for the Kitami Mint Factory. When the factory closed in 1983, Hokuren donated the building, along with all its equipment, to Kitami City. It opened as the Kitami Mint Memorial Museum in 1986. Documents and documents that convey the history of that time are on display. Mint crystals. Past products made with mint. These are nostalgic products. There is a walking path outside the museum. There are many different herbs planted here. After this, we’ll go to a department store’s product fair, which brings together delicious foods from all over the country. Kotaro’s home alone. I’m curious about all the delicious things from all over the country. Community Plaza Parabo. Community Plaza Parabo, Machinaka Odori Building. Tasting is important after all. There are lots of delicious-looking things. There are sweets too. The braised pork belly is the best. Utsunomiya gyoza. Yonezawa beef is naturally delicious. The okonomiyaki is hard to resist, too. This is what I’m looking forward to. Sea bream ramen made with sea bream stock. The soup is made from 100% sea bream stock farmed in Seto. The rich flavor and aroma are intertwined. The sea bream fillets are fluffy and fragrant. It’s the best. Next up is mackerel sushi roll. And seared bonito from Kochi. I’ve got tonight’s meal. I’ll eat a lot of dried fish. Dried sandfish. The dried round sardines were delicious. I really wanted to try them , but they were over my budget, so I gave up. The waiter offered me samples after samples. My final target was fish cutlet. It was so much fun to have so many delicious things. Mayanagi Shoten. Dinner preparations. Kotaro came to steal the bonito. I’d offered him some supermarket seared bonito several times, but he hadn’t even looked at it. Dinner was ready. Kotaro’s rice. The feast began. It was different from any seared bonito I’d had before. I was surprised at how different it was. Today, I learned about the history of mint in Kitami City. I was reminded of the profound depth of mint. Community Plaza Parabo’s Autumn Food Festival. I sampled delicious foods from all over the country. A delicious car meal.
