群馬旅|望郷ラインは気持ちよすぎる!グンマー推奨ドライブコース
Isn’t this an amazing view? [Music]
Hello, I’m Piyo. Today, I’m on the Tone-Numata Bōkyō Line. The Tone-Numata Bōkyō Line is one of the most scenic driving routes in northern Gunma Prefecture. It stretches 44 km from Shōwa Village through Numata City and Kawaba Village to Minakami Town. It’s a wide-area farm road with breathtaking views all along the way. It’s truly a perfect road for a relaxing drive. Today, I’ll be sharing this beautiful Bōkyō Line with you. So please stay with me until the end. There are several scenic viewpoints around here. The first one is right here—it’s the Pine Tree Viewpoint. Be careful, the road is gravel. Watch your step. This way. Alright. [Music]
This viewpoint isn’t technically part of the Bōkyō Line yet, but it’s a great spot with a wide view just before the route begins. Perfect for photos with your car. This was the Pine Tree Viewpoint.
Down below, it’s all konjac fields. Konjac fields.
And over here, I think it’s cabbage. That mountain is Komochi-yama.
And further back is Haruna-yama. To the left, that’s Akagi-yama. [Music]
Alright, let’s go. Heading toward the Bōkyō Line again.
Here we go. Now, the Bōkyō Line officially starts here. Turning right onto the Tone-Numata Bōkyō Line. Here we go. The Bōkyō Line isn’t a straight road.
It curves here and there, so you might take a wrong turn,
but that’s part of the fun of traveling. Let’s enjoy the ride. We started today’s journey from Shōwa Village.
[Music] The marigolds are so pretty. As you can see, the road starts off straight,
cutting through vast farmland. It feels amazing to drive here. Just look at this, everyone. It’s similar to the area around Tsumagoi. It’s just so refreshing. There’s another viewpoint up ahead. Let’s stop by. This is the Kai-no-se Viewpoint.
There’s a restroom here, so it’s a good place to take a break.
Oh, there’s a motorcyclist. [Music] The scenery here is a bit different from the last viewpoint. You can see different mountains from here.
It’s another great spot with a fantastic view. Especially in spring, the snow-covered mountains are stunning.
Highly recommended. This area is full of konjac fields.
Konjac plants look like tiny palm trees—so cute. Really adorable. Over here, it’s lettuce.
They grow so many vegetables here— this area is truly a vegetable kingdom.
We’re still in Shōwa Village. Those big trucks you see?
They’re all loaded with vegetables. [Music]
They’ve come from quite far away. Wow, look at that. Can you feel it? That refreshing vibe? [Music]
This place is really something. Ah, so refreshing. There are restrooms like this scattered along the way. And they’re clean, too. I’ve used one before—
just when I really needed it. It was a lifesaver. I’m truly grateful to the people of Shōwa Village. Now we’re heading down toward Numata City. Numata is famous for its river terraces. Formed by river erosion,
the land on both sides steps down like stairs. It’s a rare and fascinating landform.
[Music] We’re descending to the lowest part of the river terrace. This view is incredible. [Music]
We’ve reached the lowest level—right by the river. Here it is. Both sides of the valley are shaped like staircases. We’ve come all the way down to the lowest level,
and now we’ll climb the steep slope on the right to reach the urban area of Numata City. Here we go.
[Music] It’s a pretty steep slope.
We’re climbing up the cliff here. Alright, we’ve made it to the top. Vast konjac fields again.
This area is terraced too, so we’ll climb one or two more steps. The audio wasn’t recorded here,
so I’ll add a voiceover. We’re climbing the mountain on the opposite side,
and there’s another viewpoint at the top. [Music] [Music] Oh— [Music] Whoa— It’s only 10:30. Still early.
[Music] That was Kawaba Denen Plaza.
Unfortunately, it was too early and none of the shops were open. So let’s head back to the Bōkyō Line. [Music]
From here, the road continues to be really pleasant. So refreshing. [Music] Such a nice place.
[Music] In winter, it snows quite a bit.
Wow, look at this view. Absolutely stunning. Right now, my biggest concern is
where am I going to eat lunch? That’s a real issue.
There’s nothing ahead for a while. From here, it looks like apple orchards.
Yes, apples and cherries. This area is mostly cherries. And here—apples.
I can see green apples. Apple trees are so cute, aren’t they?
The Bōkyō Line continues to the left.
Oh, the apples are already turning red. Alright, entering the tunnel. It’s so cool in here.
Probably only around 20°C. Feels like a 10°C drop.
Whoa, it’s hot outside. The Bōkyō Line has almost no traffic lights.
Maybe just around Route 120 and near Denen Plaza. Otherwise, it’s smooth all the way.
Great for riders and drivers alike. When autumn comes, the foliage will be beautiful. Let’s come back again. I wonder how long the whole route is.
Let me check. Here it is.
So beautiful. Can you see it?
That mountain with the wide base is Akagi-yama. I just saw the Kan-Etsu Expressway.
There was a sign saying “Viewpoint,” but I wonder what the view is.
Is there a good one? A good view, I hope. That must be the Kan-Etsu Expressway. [Music]
Let’s speed up a bit. [Music] Oh, I’ve been here before.
This is where Zeki stalled his engine. Alright. [Music]
Here— is probably the end of the Bōkyō Line.
There’s no sign, but looking at the map—
[Music] this is where it starts.
No signs, though.
It was a great road.
Please come visit, everyone.
It’s really refreshing. Ah, I’m craving that chilled veggie ramen
from the farmhouse restaurant again. So I’ve decided—
I’m heading to Michi-no-Eki Agream Shōwa. How was the Bōkyō Line journey? Unfortunately, I missed the timing
to have lunch today. So I’m heading to Agream Shōwa,
the roadside station I visited last week.
