Iwaki City was hit by an 8.5m high tsunami caused by the massive earthquake, resulting in devastating damage. (Quoted from the Iwaki City Tourism website) The Usuiso district, where I am currently heading, has 766 people and 265 households, and most of their homes were washed away. (Quoted from the Iwaki City Tourism website) The “Forest Seawall Project” is a project to create a coastal disaster prevention forest along the Pacific coast of Iwaki City, which was affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, stretching approximately 7 km north to south, with a maximum width of 290 m and an area of 89 hectares. (Quoted from the Forest Seawall Project website) The lighthouse is in sight! The connection between Iwaki City and Hibari Misora Shioyasaki Lighthouse is a white tower-shaped lighthouse located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, and is one of only 16 “climbable lighthouses” in the country. According to the Iwaki City Tourism Website, it was first lit in 1899 and is affectionately known locally as “Toyoma Lighthouse” or “Hibari Lighthouse.” Admission fee for adults is 300 yen. The stairs take about three minutes and offer a spectacular 360-degree view. Please take your trash with you. It’s so beautiful. Apparently there are 103 steps. That’s quite a lot. Finally!!! I’m sure many people had their hats blown away and lost in the strong wind. It’s been a while the Pacific Ocean!!! The museum opened on Saturday, May 30, 2020, with the aim of preserving and exhibiting materials related to the earthquake, and passing on and educating people about the disaster. (Quoted from the official website) Admission Fee is Free. The magnitude of the Tohoku Pacific Ocean earthquake. The epicenter was magnitude 9.0. Iwaki city was just under 6.
