Mikuni-toge Pass is a mountain pass at an altitude of 1700m, located on the border between Kawakami Village in Nagano Prefecture and Chichibu City in Saitama Prefecture. It is the only road that directly connects Nagano Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture.
The Saitama Prefecture side of the pass features a long dirt road that is popular with off-road enthusiasts, but it suffered extensive damage from Typhoon Hagibis in 2019 and has remained closed for an extended period. While it is possible to access the pass from the Nagano Prefecture side, the road conditions there are also poor, and caution is necessary when traveling.
On this trip, I took the prefectural road 68 and the municipal route in Kawakami Village to reach Mikuni-toge Pass. Kawakami Village, located at an altitude of 1200m, is famous for its high-altitude vegetables, and farmland stretches along the roadside.

三国峠は埼玉県と長野県を直接行き来出来る唯一の峠道のはずなんですが、埼玉県側は通行止めが続いている影響で、もはや放置状態で中津川林道は廃道に近い状態になっておりますね…。一度行ってみたいのですが、通行止め解除と道路改良がされてここが通れるようになる日は果たして来るのでしょうかね…？
長野県道68号は前半部分は通ったことが無いですね。国道141号から直接全線走破しようとすると、予想通り狭隘区間が結構あるんですね。この県道へは、国道からだともう少し南側の道路から一本道で行けるはずなので、三国峠へ向かうのはそちらからがおすすめですね。
お久しぶりです。三国峠は2007年に川上方面から秩父方面に一度だけ越えたことがありますが、路面状況は川上牧丘線（大弛峠）と比べればずっとましな、少しわだちのある砂利道でした。その後、大きな台風のたびに通行止めとなり、解説のとおり2019年から”当面のあいだ”通行止めとなっています。埼玉県と長野県を直接結ぶ唯一の道路なので、埼玉県と山梨県を結ぶ国道140号、雁坂峠のようにトンネル化は出来ないものでしょうか。
昔は、三国山は、キベリタテハの多産地でしたが、動画を見る限りいなそうでした。三国峠はみなかみの、三国山は、川上村のと個人的には区別していましたが、今は、三国峠のようですね。

1978年11月5日に上福岡～正丸峠～志賀坂峠～ぶどう峠～小海～三国峠～秩父～飯能～上福岡と365㎞平均燃費18·6㎞でスバルレックス360ccで走破しました。三国峠からはかなりの酷道だったのを覚えています。当時150円の中津川林道通行券を徴収されました。
