巨大魚の楽園でカンパチ、クエ、GT制圧!高橋哲也 泳がせの極意/屋久島沖/大物釣り/大物泳がせ釣り/トカラ列島
Continuing from last time, it’s the second day of our Tokara expedition. This time, we’ll move our focus to the area around Yakushima and aim for giant fish. Yakushima is located at the southernmost tip of Kyushu, and is a green island with approximately 90% of its area covered in forest. It’s around Yakushima that Takahashi Tetsuya, a master of big game trolling, will finally be casting his rod. Today, just like yesterday, we’ll be aiming for a big amberjack, and if we’re lucky, we might even catch a grouper… but we’re also hoping to catch some bottom fish, which are greedy thoughts we’d never have imagined before coming here! Today is the “last day” so I hope to learn some of Tetsuya’s secret techniques by watching him fight against the big fish . We set sail at 7:20 and it’s been hot since the morning again today, but now we’re going to fish for “Japanese horse mackerel” which we’ll use as live bait today . Japanese horse mackerel , mackerel and sardines are all schooling fish so the most commonly used rig is a sabiki, which is about 3m to a maximum of 4m 50cm in length. Using this sabiki, you pass it from the top where the Japanese horse mackerel are grouped to below them, and if they don’t bite, you quickly pull it up again and repeat! It’s very simple, but when you lower the rig, it makes a lot of banging noises like this. If you do that, even if a fish gets hooked, it might come off, so you wo n’t know if it’s hooked, so be sure to lower the rod a little and go straight down quickly. Smoothly lower the rod tip and lift the rod butt, and the rig will go straight down. If it doesn’t bite through the depth, raise it again and go all the way to the top . The captain will tell you the depth. Right now, I’m fishing about 70 to 100m, and I have about 5m of sabiki, so I’ve raised it to about 65m. The part of the body around the mouth of a horse mackerel is very soft, so the skin on the mouth is soft, so it will get hooked and come off. Reeling speed is also important, but reeling too quickly isn’t good either, so bring it to the surface at a moderate speed ! They often fall off the surface, so I’ll hook the keeper here and gently. How many are there? Ah! Four fell off . What kind of rod do you use when fishing for horse mackerel? Hooking it is one thing, but reeling it in is the hardest part. If you’re not used to it, the rig can get all messed up, so you have to keep tensing it up, and it will come off halfway through, so what if it comes off? If you think there aren’t any, just lower it again quickly. It’s a waste of time to raise it all the way up, because the horse mackerel are moving around in schools, constantly changing their location. While they’re there , you can thread the sabiki through the layer of horse mackerel directly below the boat, using weights like 80, 100, or 120 if the water is deep, and sometimes it’s better to use a heavier weight even in shallow water to get a bite. You won’t know what works until you try, so give it a try! It’s huge! This horse mackerel will attract grouper! While the boat is moving, sabikis with lots of hooks are left lying on the side of the boat like this, so if you’re with friends or people on the boat, you have to call out to them, “Here’s a sabiki!” Otherwise, they ‘ll get stabbed, and if they get caught on your clothes and cut your clothes, this spinning thing will start again…it ‘ll get punctured and the air won’t circulate! If you do that, Workman will get in trouble, so be careful! 笑 English : Oh! There are so many of them ! There are three ! Oh no, I’m going to die, I’m going to die ! Look! I was there too, but I dropped it, did n’t I? Tetsuya, are there any foods you don’t like? Green peppers! They look like something a child would hate lol . But you can see from these waves, right? Maybe the lack of wind means it ‘s getting deeper and deeper? That’s the home of the horse mackerel, so move out of the way. Do you want to eat your lunch? Welcome home, it’s looking great , it’s fine, it’s swimming fine! After all, that one was pretending to be dead, it’s swimming really well, it’s fine now! I was looking away for a bit , it’s a grouper! It’s coming up really slowly, the initial pull was incredible, but it’s past noon and we’re entering the second half of the day. Will we be able to find a bigger fish? Yes! We’re nearing the end, and we’ve returned to the area around the island of Yakushima. They’re aiming for grouper and other bottom fish here! Ah! There seem to be fish there? It’s biting! Ah… what? Excuse me… It’s really snagged, it’s bad! Is it snagged? Give me a towel! Let’s get it off , reel it in, let the line out! OK! Reel it in, and use the electric to reel it in! It’s going so fast, I don’t know what’s going on, it’s floating, it’s floating! Forward, forward, forward! It’s floating up, it’s been eaten! Is it a GT? Got bitten by a shark… It might be an amberjack, but it’s been taken in a terrible way… Here we go again! There was a shark here the other day that ate the tail of a grouper … When it hits the bottom and you’re reeling it in from the bottom, should you use the electric? Either way is fine, but you can’t adjust it to be too fast or too slow, so it’s better for everyone to do it by hand. If you’re not used to it, the electric will be too fast or too slow, so there’s no best way to do it, just too fast? Not too fast, not too slow… not too deep, not too shallow. Has it been taken (the bait)? It’s been taken now, now it’s a bonito! The bait, a bonito! Shall I raise (the rod)? It’s thrashing around, it was bent, down down! Isn’t it white? This isn’t amberjack, it’s a GT! It’s thrashing around too much. It’s definitely a GT. It was going strong , it was a bonito. The bait is floating! When you’re using live bait, you’ll catch all kinds of fish, like amberjack, grouper , various groupers, black tuna, red snapper, and also these migratory fish like GT and dogtooth tuna . It’d be pretty good if you could catch just one type of fish in a day, not just a bunch . Apparently there’s something called a Grand Slam in America . Okay! Boss , when did you catch the bonito? It was a little while ago, but now that we’re fishing for bonito, we’re using live bait like horse mackerel… that’s how we’re taught, right? Muromuromuramuromuramuromuramuro… anything is fine!! I told you, any bait is fine. I saw the moment it was eaten and it was with incredible force! It went in like a whoosh . What size hook are you using now? 40 size hook! The line is 100, 80 to 100. It’s hard to catch a grouper over 50kg, so I want to catch one over 50kg! We’re drifting in the same place, right? The captain started off with 75m , then ended up with 53m, see, 66m, and now it’s only 10m. When the water is so rough and we’re fishing close to the bottom, we’re getting snagged on the bottom all the time! If it gets snagged, you have to do the same work, or at worst, if all your rig breaks you have to re-tie it, which is a 20-minute loss.If the tide stops and the fish stop biting, it’s all over, so if the fish are feeding for 10 to 20 minutes, you have to do all your rigging here for those 20 minutes , so “setting the depth” is important.Usually in that rocky area… it’s too late when it’s rocky! At this speed, if it’s rocky, the fish that are already snagged will see the rock and get scared, so once they sense the vibration, it’s time to reel it in! It’s a really bumpy area, so snagging is inevitable, but there’s a big difference between doing it knowing that it will get snagged and doing it without realizing it! This line is at an angle now… When you “set the depth when it’s at an angle,” the line keeps coming out, and as it keeps coming out the water gets shallower and shallower. Do you realize that you’re putting a noose around your neck? Do you understand that? It’s at an angle , so of course the line is coming out . You know this triangle, a right-angled triangle, it gets more and more at an angle and the water gets shallower. It keeps dragging, and when you try to set the depth accurately, you’re actually putting a noose around your neck! Ah, is it a severed shark? Something felt strange just now, it’s a shark, it’s like a bamboo spear, and the way it was lifted was weird, you’d better do it now. You didn’t have to do it before, but now we’re starting to catch groupers, so you’d better do it, now’s our chance to catch groupers. Well, I’ll do it ! Hurry up! It’s pulling, it’s thrashing around, right? Has it broken in half again? Is it okay? I wonder if it’s an amberjack. There are a lot of amberjack this time. It’s in the middle, so I don’t like it. If the line gets caught, the rod will be in big trouble, it’s squishy! How many meters is it, Captain? 76 (m) See! It was spot on. Right now, at 76m (depth), my reel counter was maintaining roughly that depth, so it’s thrashing around. Ah , it’s missing its tail, it’s been eaten by something . Could it really be a grouper? No… there’s no tail to be seen . It suddenly stopped thrashing around, right? Where did it go missing? It’s the head… it’s a pretty big shark. It’s going to eat this, so it’s huge. Is it chasing me? It’s been a restaurant forever! If you estimate the shark’s depth too high or too low, it will get snagged on the bottom here… it’s all a mess. I understand why it got snagged. It stops with the slightest pull, thinking it’s a bite? It ‘s like it’s been inputted, and your body is getting eaten. Now… it’s coming while I’m pulling it up! 100% hit! Amazing… it’s docile? It’s docile, is n’t it? Be careful when it comes to the surface. There’s a red grouper . Thank you! Grouper! 10 meters, full of tails like these, like amberjack and GT, just like the insiders ! Facing me, (the line) is tilted! It’s floating, it’s floating! Could it be? Is that the tail that was feeding ? Just to be sure, this is just the right bait for the sharks, but surely the sharks must be thinking it’s wrong? It took the bait as soon as I lowered it, it was eating while adjusting the depth… Evening… There’s still a chance, so let’s aim for a big one, good luck! Let’s get away, it’s getting tangled up with Chi-chan , so have you found out? It ‘s slipped away… Okay, let’s go back, a real amberjack! Ah! It’s here? It’s coming up smoothly ! It’s fast lol, there are sharks too… Huh? Something… amberjack? Yellowtail! This is the first fish species we’ve caught this time! Wow, yellowtail!! Well, boss also caught a yellowtail, Tetsuya hit 100% and there’s only one live bait left, so it’s time for the last cast. Two days that seemed long but went by in a flash . Huh? So fast! There’s still some out there, they’ll eat! Huh? Try reeling it in a bit? I think it’s bitten already. Reel it in a bit, reel it in! Keep the tension up! I think it’s bitten already. Try lifting the rod a bit! Don’t pull it up so hard, lol. If you drop it, I’ll let go… Has it eaten the bait? It’s still there!! It’s fine as it is! There’s no need to drop it, what should I do!? The outsiders are so noisy! Frankly, the outsiders, if you can do it yourself, then do it yourself! Look… I know you want to catch it, but please don’t make me impatient! There’s no more, right? Bait! It’s pulling… Reel it in slowly one last time, there it is! Fish, fish! Set the hook now! Set the hook now ! Reel it in!! I have to reel it in! Okay! This is a grouper, it doesn’t swim, so it’s a grouper . Raise it slowly, speed: half slow, half slow, half speed, is that about right? The outsiders are so noisy, right? Please complain when you eat after catching the fish , but we’re going up now! OK! Isn’t it rarer to catch a yellowtail that wasn’t a bottom fish ? lol Only one! Orion beer lol, delicious ♪ Thank you for taking care of me for two days. I’ve never caught so many big fish in consecutive days before, and it was a valuable experience. I learned a lot as a person and as a fisherman, and after spending three days with you… I learned a lot of things that will stay with me. You ‘ll see a lot of videos of big fish being caught throughout the day, but it really only lasts for a moment! But we got to see so many different species of fish, and the rest of the time they were catching our bait , and we got snagged on rocks and had trouble, which was amazing, wasn’t it? I guess we still haven’t connected with the fish… The most important thing when acting without thinking is to attach a weight and drop it to the bottom. It’s not scary to let it drift sideways without a weight, but if you attach a weight and drop it on a rocky area, the ocean is definitely uneven, and in areas with a lot of ups and downs, it can change elevation by 10m or 20m in one go, so if you drop it quickly , how many meters will it come up in one go? You can tell by letting it drift! When I’m reeling in , I don’t really reset the shelf from that depth. Basically, I’m currently down at 75m, reeling in 10m, and then it gets shallower and shallower at 65, and then finally it’s 50 or so , and there’s a 20m to 25m difference. When I’m lowering that 25m difference, what if there’s a rock when I’m lowering it ? What if it’s just before the rock? There’s a rock here , right? If I lower it just before the rock and the boat starts to drift this way, it’ll go up all at once, right? Even if I cut it 2-3m at that time, it won’t hit anything, so if I raise it a few meters from the depth I lowered it once and it will rise again, so I raise it a few meters again, and then I raise it a few meters , and in the middle of it, I dropped it too much! That’s too much! It’s no use saying that ! It doesn’t get snagged on rocks, so I don’t make any mistakes, but when I fail , I wonder why I keep getting snagged on rocks, and it’s because I drop it too many times, or if I drop it in this mess, it’ll happen to me too! So I barely let it drop, and when I thought it was flat, I tried dropping it once, and I thought I’d cut it off about 7m, but it hit the bottom at 3m, so the error was 4m, right? 4m, I must have messed up somewhere… Next time I’ll try to pull it up a little faster, or raise it 3m, then 5m , and then when I drop it, if it’s at an angle, it will become more and more angled, so I’ll have to pull it in. I caught a great one, and that was the definition of a right triangle yesterday! That’s it! You need to set the depth, but you have to think about when to do it! But we caught a variety of fish, right? First of all, the thing that surprised me the most was yellowtail! I used to catch a fish called yellowtail when I was doing drop fishing in Kitakyushu, and I caught one, and the captain was surprised and said, “Are you sure there are a lot of yellowtail? ” Yellowtail was the biggest hit, so we’ll do something else after this, and I hope you’ll come to Kitakyushu drop fishing! This time the line was thick so I was able to pull it hard, but this time I used a sabiki rig and just hooked the sardines and let them down. I caught a lot of big fish , including yellowtail, amberjack, red sea bream, flounder, cormorant, and John Dory. There are lots of fish I’ve never caught before . There are lots of delicious fish to catch, so I hope you’ll cook and eat some of the delicious fish. Please try to break your record and be careful not to get hurt.
