Welcome to Akinan, Japan, where we’re flying over the Akinan City Tatsakichi Fuji Museum of Contemporary Art. Today, located at 1:1 Odo Hamaki in Aayichi Prefecture. This museum opened in 2008 to honor Tatsukichi Fuji, a local artist known for dying and weaving. Its striking exterior blends glass walls with black tiles, merging modern design with the historic townscape near AWE Park. Inside, the permanent collection showcases Fuji’s works, including jewelry boxes and flower vases alongside rotating exhibits of Japanese contemporary art. In 2025, the museum hosts the art of Kunitaro Suda Three Views, exploring the Western Style Painters synthesis of Eastern and Western styles, running from April 1st to May 11th. Visitors praised the museum’s kaleidoscope, certified as the world’s largest by Guinness, and its serene setting. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with free admission. It’s an affordable stop, though some note limited English signage. Nearby, the agricultural richness of Akinan adds charm with a park offering a scenic stroll. The museum’s location 50 minutes from the Goya by train makes it a perfect day trip for art lovers exploring Japan’s cultural treasures.
