Good morning! We are newlyweds, unemployed, and traveling around Japan on our honeymoon , eating delicious food everywhere ! We’re currently in Wakkanai, Japan’s northernmost city. So, we’re going to be sleeping in our car here in the northernmost part of Japan. I hope to spend a day in Wakkanai . It’s lunchtime now. I worked this morning and I’m starving. There’s a place in Wakkanai that sells some of Japan’s best things, so I thought I’d go and buy some. Well , I’ll go and get some. Let’s go, Wakkanai . Thank you ! Anyway, I bought this bento from a supermarket called “Shokuhinkan Aizawa.” This is the “Scallop Okowa Bento,” which won second place in the “Local Supermarket Meal #Gothic Meal” category at the 2022 Local Supermarket Grand Prix, hosted by the National Local Supermarket Association . And while this bento won second place, the grand prize went to Aizawa’s makunouchi bento, which I really wanted to try. The best bento in Japan… but that was sold out.It was sold out and this was also the last one left.I was able to buy the second place item.The first place item is a makunouchi bento and it contains white rice and grilled salmon with salt and koji.The official name is “Exquisite makunouchi bento with grilled homemade salmon marinated in koji” and it contains homemade grilled salmon marinated in koji.Um wait a minute I’ve been wrong all this time but it’s “kasuzuke” . It seems like this supermarket is particular about using no additives. They’re really particular about each and every ingredient. For example, the alcohol they use? They use alcohol made only from rice for cooking, and the noodle soup and soy sauce are additive-free. What’s amazing is the salt used in these side dishes. I think the salt used in these pickles is over 100 million years old . What does that mean? Is it salt that’s been around for a long time? It’s so delicious. Everything around it is also delicious. The simmered and fried dishes seem to change daily. It’s not like the bento boxes you get at supermarkets. It’s just the kind of side dishes you’d get at a set meal restaurant. It ‘s seriously delicious. We went around 1:30pm, so it was quite sold out. *If you want to be sure to write a review, go early. Thank you for the meal. Finally, I bought some drinks.
