Kumamoto Prefecture Sightseeing Part 3 – Aso/Kumamoto Area – August 10-12, 2024 Good morning. It’s the morning of August 11th (Sunday). I’ll do my best again today. This is the view from my room. For breakfast, I’ll have the croissant and donut I bought the day before. They look delicious. They look delicious. I’m resuming my statue tour. I’m off. The weather is nice again today. It looks hot. This is the exterior of the hotel. Today, on my second day (August 11th), a three-day, two-night trip to the Aso/Kumamoto area. I’ll be traveling from Kumamoto Prefecture (Kikuchi) to Kumamoto Prefecture (Aso/Kamimashiki). (Green Rich Hotel → Nami Statue → Takamori Dengaku Village → Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine → Shirakawa Spring Water Source → Lanky → Takamori Spring Tunnel Park → Sanji Statue → Brook Statue) Today’s (Day 2) itinerary includes the following:・One Piece statue tour ・Food tour of Takamori Dengaku no Sato ・Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, Takamori Spring Tunnel Park, and Shirakawa Spring Source We proceed to our destination. We set off. (9:40am) It’s 38°C right now… (The buzzing sound you hear is the air conditioner on full blast.) We head towards Nishihara Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. The peaceful and pleasant scenery continues. The view is beautiful. It’s truly the best scenery. The drive is pleasant. We’re almost at Tawarayama Community Center Moe no Sato (Nishihara Village). There’s a statue of Nami here. We’ve arrived. You can see the sign for the Nami Statue. We’ve arrived at Tawarayama Community Center Moe no Sato (Nishihara Village). (10:10 AM) ~ Tawarayama Community Center Moe no Sato (Nishihara Village) “Nami Statue” ~ As always, the quality is great. (Nice body) I take a stroll around “Tawarayama Community Center Moe no Sato (Nishihara Village).” I move on. It’s still quite early in the morning, but cars keep coming in. I arrive at the building, and I can see sunflowers in the background. I go and check it out. The sunflower field spreads out before me. It’s a magnificent sight. They overlap with the mountains in the background, creating a wonderful view. I head back. (I’m impressed) I take a stroll around the community center. The sweet potatoes look delicious. I’m interested in this curry. The dango soup is good too. When you think of Aso, you think of “Akagyu” (red beef). The bento boxes here are great. They look delicious, there’s a wide variety, and the prices are reasonable. I’m seriously debating whether to get this curry. *I held off because I’m going to Dengaku no Sato after this. This milk looks delicious. (I buy the regular size) These cookies are cute. Considering the purpose of this trip, it seems like a good souvenir. There are a lot of One Piece souvenirs. I’m looking forward to buying the following. ・Yamada-san’s Milk (tax included: 220 yen) ・Imo Sticks (tax included: 300 yen) This store also has One Piece merchandise on display. I was given a commemorative card. (4th photo) Here we go. (Gulp) Delicious! Here we go. (Gulp) The milk is rich and delicious. (Delicious!) We move on. We set off. (10:55 AM) Next, we’re heading for Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine. We’re heading towards Takamori Town, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. This is Kuwazuru Bridge. The shape of the iron bridge is distinctive. It’s also known as the “X Bridge” because of its shape. The view is getting really beautiful. There’s an observation deck, so we stop by. We’ve arrived at the “Observation Deck (Mount Omine and Takayubaru Plateau).” (11:00) There is an explanation that this is one of the “Aso UNESCO Geoparks.” The view is beautiful. (The mountain side, including the town side, is also good) We move on. We set off. (11:10) The “Five Peaks of Aso” come into view. We arrive at the “Observation Point (Minamiaso Parking Lot).” (11:15) This is not an official observation point, but it seems to be a popular photo spot. The “Five Peaks of Aso” spread out before our eyes. A magnificent view. This is what the mountain side looks like. We move on. We set off. (11:20) We took a slight detour and headed to “Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine.” The view of the Five Peaks of Aso from here is truly magnificent (impressive). On the left is the roadside station (Aso-no-Sato Kugino), where I previously spent the night in my car. There are an incredible number of cars. A Ferrari. (Cool). On the right is where the Dengaku restaurant is located. There is a goat on the left. It’s small and cute. We are almost at Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine. We enter the parking lot. We have arrived at Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine (parking lot). (11:50am) ~Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine~ This is my first time here, but I’ve often seen it in online videos and articles recently. I’m looking forward to seeing what the atmosphere is like. It seems that worship begins from here. We head to worship. We feel a solemn atmosphere. We head further in. There is a sacred feeling. This place has been featured frequently on TV in recent years, so I’ve been curious about it. It seems to have become famous through the anime “Hotarubi no Mori e.” It really is a place with a great atmosphere. This is the Chozuya (water purification fountain). We take a break. *The last toilet is here. We continue on. There are quite a few stairs up to the main shrine (haiden). (We’re a little out of breath) There are 220 stone steps, and apparently about 100 lanterns on both sides. The view from here is famous. We often see it in photos in leaflets. We’re both out of breath. (We’re tired…) We arrive at the haiden. We pray. This is the view down from the haiden. We head back. The view from here is also wonderful. As for goshuin (temple stamps), there is no goshuin issuing office here, so you can get one at the Takamori Tourism Promotion Organization, a little further away near Takamori Station. We’ll go there later. We’ve come down. We head to the parking lot. We carry on. We’re leaving. (12:25) Tourists are heading out one after another. We head towards Takamori Town, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. Next, we head to Takamori Dengaku Village. We’ll soon arrive at Takamori Dengaku Village. I’m looking forward to it. We enter the parking lot. We’ve arrived at Takamori Dengaku Village. (12:30) ~ Takamori Dengaku Village ~ It’s lunchtime, so many people are waiting. It seems to be quite popular. We make a reservation to wait our turn. There are two types of set meal: “Dengaku Set Meal (2,490 yen)” and “Charcoal Grilled Chicken Set Meal (2,490 yen).” We’ll have the “Dengaku Set Meal (2,490 yen for 2 people).” (Looking forward to it) While we wait, we stroll through the souvenir shop next door. We go in. There are a variety of souvenirs for sale. This is the sake section. There are also some nostalgic items on display. (Actually, they’re products from a generation older than me…) There’s a second floor, so I go up. It’s closed now, but it seems to have originally been a cafe space. The atmosphere is nice. I’ll be happy when the cafe reopens. (What a shame) I move on. I return to the dining area. I was called in sooner than I expected, after about a 15-minute wait. It’s been a while since I last visited, but the atmosphere inside is still nice, and the staff are just as friendly as ever. The hearth gives off a lovely ambiance. (I wish they’d finish cooking it soon.) Here is the miso paste to be spread on the dengaku and the side dishes. (Looks delicious) This is konnyaku (konnyaku). (Let’s eat, munch!) The side dishes are also delicious. The food is cooked just right. A staff member comes over to spread miso on the dengaku. He explains the origin of the name “Tsuru no Ko Imo” (Tsuru sweet potato), a Takamori specialty. It’s named after its shape, which resembles the head of a crane. It looks like it’s almost time to eat. I’m looking forward to it. “Eggplant” and “Sawagani”. *Rice also arrived. I got some from my wife. (Large portion (sweat)) It’s “Tofu.” (Let’s eat, munch.) It’s “Tsurunokoimo” (Cranberry Potato). (Looks delicious!) (Let’s eat, munch.) It’s “Yamame (Yamame).” (Let’s eat, munch.) Thank you for the meal. It was very delicious. *The lid on the hearth looks like a charcoal fire extinguisher. We’re leaving the restaurant. “Dengaku Set Meal (2,490 yen) *2 people” is 4,980 yen. We ‘ve come out of the restaurant. It was really delicious and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. We head to the parking lot. There were a lot of foreign visitors. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We’re heading to our next destination. This concludes the main story (Part 3). See you next time. (Thank you)
