船内で盗難事件!海上保安庁が出動 苫小牧→大洗 フェリー旅

I traveled by ferry from Tomakomai to Oarai. A theft occurred just before disembarking! The Japan Coast Guard boarded the vessel for investigation. Hello! This is the “Soviet-made Mir Exhibition Hall” in Tomakomai, Hokkaido. I will board the ferry from Tomakomai this evening. Before departure, let’s tour this facility. Mir was the former Soviet Union’s space station. Here, the actual Mir is on display. However, this Mir was not used in space. It is a spare Mir prepared for emergencies such as accidents. Of course, its exterior and interior are the actual Mir itself. There are exercise equipment and space food. This sleeping bag and toilet are for use in zero gravity. I could imagine life in space. “Mir” means “peace” in Russian, which is quite meaningful… This facility is adjacent to the Tomakomai City Science Center. It is located a 15-minute walk from Tomakomai Station It’s a good idea to visit this facility before boarding the ferry. Tomakomai City Hall is located nearby. The nearest bus stop is “City Hall.” It is along the bus route from Tomakomai Station to Tomakomai Port. This is the bus bound for Tomakomai Port. Let’s take a look at the ferry route. The ship will depart Tomakomai at 6:45 p.m. Arrival at Oarai is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The bus arrived at Tomakomai Port in ten minutes. The fare was $2. If you love ferry travel, you’ll come back to this ferry terminal again and again. The entrance is on the mezzanine level, and the counter is on the first floor. Three ferry companies use this ferry terminal. Then let’s go see the ship at the wharf. The ship for this journey is the “Sunflower Furano.” Built in 2017, length 199.7m. There is a small park by the wharf. The park has an observation deck. The observation deck is for watching the ferry. Vehicles are boarding one after another before foot passengers. To board the ship, you must walk down this long passageway. There is a spacious observation deck on the third floor of the ferry terminal. The sight of three large ships lined up like this is spectacular. Silver Ferry bound for Hachinohe. Taiheiyo Ferry bound for Sendai and Nagoya. Sunflower bound for Oarai. The boarding gate and restaurant are on the second floor. The shop is also open. Boarding gate for Oarai is this way. This is the long passageway we saw earlier at the wharf. The hull is visible through the passageway windows. There are stairs partway along the passageway. A wheelchair elevator is also installed next to it. Wheelchairs can be boarded without assistance. Here the passageway connects to the ship. There’s also an elevator beyond the escalator. Take the stairs or elevator up to the 5th floor lobby. The passenger area is on the 5th to the 7th floor. My cabin is a “Superior Japanese-style Room” on the 6th floor. I booked it for $190. You must take off your shoes at the entrance. The window faces the sea. Air conditioner, TV, refrigerator, etc. The room area is about 9 square meters. Though compact, it’s fully functional. Soft-to-the-touch indoor wear and amenities. You lay out your own futon on the tatami mats. The capacity is two people, but it can accommodate up to three. Many Japanese people prefer this type of Japanese-style room. But setting up the futon myself is a bit of a hassle. A bathroom is also installed. There’s no bathtub, only a shower. It is equipped with a bidet toilet seat. The shower area is so compact. There’s a step from the bathroom into the room. When I lay out the futon, this place feels like home. It reminds me of my student lodgings. The Pacific route can be rough, so seasickness medication is essential. Exit to the external deck from the stern side of the 6th floor. The external deck also spans from the 5th to the 7th floor. The vivid red funnel is enormous and imposing. Let’s head down from the 6th floor to the 5th. The 5th floor has the largest external deck. We’ll be departing shortly. Looking at it this way, you can see the length of the passageway. Departure procedures begin. The ropes are loosened and released from the bollards. The ship slowly pulls away from the wharf as the ropes are reeled up. Black smoke billows from the funnel. Departure was on schedule at 6:45 p.m. The staff members saw our ship off at the wharf. Ferry passengers are more numerous during the summer. That’s the park’s observation deck we just climbed. A tugboat docks. Our ship sails within the harbor for a while. Passing the navigation signal. Once past all the lighthouses, it’s out of the harbor. The ship heads south across the Pacific Ocean at night. Many passengers are relaxing in the 6th floor lobby..013 This is the information desk in the 5th floor lobby. The restaurant is on the 6th floor. An announcement is explaining the procedure to follow in case of theft aboard the ship. At the time, I never imagined theft would actually occur. Dinner buffet is $15. The sister ship of this vessel is the “Sapporo.” The breakfast and dinner menus differ between the two ships. It’s unusual for sister ships on the same route to have different menus. Dinner service runs from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Today’s recommendation is roast pork. I enjoy it with Hokkaido sake “Kunimare.” Next, let’s take a look at the shop on the 5th floor. This shop sells specialty products from all over Hokkaido. You can also buy many original Sunflower products. The Sunflower offers the largest number of original products among Japanese ferries. The grand bath on the 5th floor is open until 10:00 p.m. The numerous washing booths make the space feel cramped. The windows face the ship’s starboard side. There is no open-air bath, but there is a sauna. Well, it’s already late at night. Let’s take a good look around the ship. I’m walking from the information desk on the 5th floor toward the stern. Many large windows face the sea in a row. This is the commemorative photo corner. And there’s a kids’ room. Further ahead is the grand bath. In front of the grand bath are a rest area and massage chairs. And a smoking room. The coin laundry is available anytime. You can also access the external deck from the 5th floor. There are stairs on the stern as well. The amusement arcade on the 6th floor closes at night. The water heater, water dispenser, and microwave are always available for use. Now let’s walk toward the bow on the 6th floor. The double-height space creates a sense of openness within the ship. The walkway doubles as a rest area. Further ahead are stairs to the 7th floor. The 7th floor is the private room floor. It’s nice to read manga here while having a drink. There is also an accessible restroom. Further ahead is the restaurant. I went down the stairs and returned to the 5th floor. The accessible restroom on the 5th floor includes a shower. The shared room “Tourist” is $70. It probably isn’t very comfortable when there are many passengers. Only the refrigerated coin lockers require payment. This cabin “Comfort” is $85. It’s a shared room with capsule-style bunk beds. And now, the ship is sailing off the coast of Iwate. The wheelhouse is visible beyond the external deck. There is a small dog run on the external deck. Clouds spread across the horizon. The morning sun is faintly visible through the clouds. It was a fantastical sunrise. The cabin window faces the port side. After that, we were blessed with good weather. Not a single cloud in the sky. The ship is off the coast of Fukushima. Let’s have breakfast at the restaurant. Breakfast buffet is $9. The restaurant is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The breakfast menu also differs from that of the sister ship Sapporo. So if you take a different ship for the return trip, you can enjoy different meals. The restaurant windows also face the port side. After a delicious breakfast comes coffee. Outside the window, the vast Pacific Ocean stretches endlessly. The observation deck windows face the land. In the distance, the decommissioned Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant can be seen. There’s still plenty of time before arriving in the afternoon. After breakfast, the restaurant operates as a cafe. And it can be freely entered and exited as a rest area. This is the Hirono Thermal Power Plant, currently in operation. After that, I relax in the cabin. It’s tea time with a view of the sea. I just noticed there’s a curtain here. This room has only one small window, but it has plenty of lighting. Japanese-style rooms have a calming effect. The ship is sailing off the coast of Ibaraki from Fukushima. On the right is Shionozaki Lighthouse, and on the left is the Iwaki Marine Tower. I have lunch at the restaurant. The restaurant serves light meals during lunchtime. Meat Udon is $5. This is the landmark Oarai Marine Tower. The ship passes the lighthouse and enters Oarai Port. The ship turned to starboard, its wake tracing an arc. Oarai is a port town in Ibaraki Prefecture. It is also one of the prefecture’s leading tourist destinations The ship makes a 180-degree turn before docking Then it docks on the starboard side. A long passageway extends from the ferry terminal. Staff are waiting at the wharf. It’s 300 meters from the wharf to the Oarai Marine Tower. The boarding bridge is awaiting connection. A line is dropped from the ship to the wharf. A thick rope is attached to a thin line. At this wharf, ropes are hauled up from the sea using only human strength. Oh, the rope got caught on the rightmost bollard. Staff noticed and removed it, then reeled it up. It’s rare to find a wharf where so many people perform rope work. This is the last rope. The time is still only 1:00 p.m. The ship arrived an hour ahead of schedule. It’s extremely rare to arrive this early. Thanks to the fine weather, the voyage must have gone very smoothly. Now, after the ship arrives, passengers are supposed to disembark promptly… An announcement was made regarding a lost smartphone inside the ship. The ferry company declared it would handle the incident as a theft case. The Japan Coast Guard will board the vessel and conduct an investigation. All passengers are prohibited from disembarking until the investigation is complete. Staff stated that they have no idea when passengers will be able to disembark. The crew’s tension stood in stark contrast to the passengers’ weariness. Japan Coast Guard officers are conducting an investigation on board the vessel. They reviewed the security camera footage and investigated those involved. Two hours after the ship arrived, the passengers were permitted to disembark. Since we arrived one hour early, disembarkation was one hour later than scheduled. It seems something was confirmed from the security camera footage. But passengers were not informed of the investigation’s findings. The staff members came out of the ship. Under Japanese law, if incidents such as theft occur on a ferry during its voyage… The Japan Coast Guard must board the vessel and conduct an investigation. When passengers can disembark depends on the outcome of the investigation. It seems that disembarkation is often possible with a delay of about two hours. The connecting bus to Oarai Station accommodated disembarkation delays. But since it wasn’t that far to the station, I walked. It’s a 20-minute walk from Oarai Port to Oarai Station. Oarai is synonymous with “Girls und Panzer.” This shop is quite famous among the fans. Various things can happen while traveling. And that is also part of the joy of travel. Thank you for watching! 商船三井さんふらわあの「ふらの」に乗船。

  1. まるでドラマの撮影を見ているようでしたが、盗まれたのがスマホというのがなんとも微妙というか、何処かに置き忘れたのであれば良いなと思いました。早く着いたのに下船時間が遅くなっちゃって、何かある時には良い事悪い事の両方があるみたい、と思いました。
    和室もくつろげそうで良いですね。

    まさか本当に遭遇するとは迷惑か美味しい体験かは分かりませんがレアケースでしたね。
    まぁ火災に遭遇するよりはマシですけど。

    1時間早く入港になったのは、盗難が出航後早くに発覚し
    なるべく乗客の下船を早めるためにフェリーの速度を最大限にまで上げたのでしょうね。
    大部屋か共用部での盗難だと思いますが、カメラが設置されたフェリーという密室である以上
    犯人の特定は容易だったと思います。自分もさんふらわあ北海道航路はよく使うので気を付けねば。

  29. サンフラワーは一度も乗った事無いから乗りたいですね、太平洋は2回日本海は6回乗ってます。日本海は夜出発夜到着なので寝る場所探すのに最初は苦労しました。太平洋は時間掛かるけど10時に着くのは便利です。食事は断然日本海です。太平洋は仙台で降りてイオンで弁当買って食事して乗ります
