Thank you for watching. This is manpuku from Occhii-ch. Today, I’ll be walking through the Jyoto Traditional Buildings Preservation District in Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture. Let’s get started! The Jyoto Traditional Buildings Preservation District in Tsuyama Castle Town is located in the eastern part of the castle town, encompassing the Izumo-odori street in Hashimoto-cho, Hayashida-cho, Katsumata-cho, Nakano-cho, Nishi-shinmachi, and Higashi-shinmachi. Developed as a merchant town, the area retains the layout established during the Edo period. The area is dominated by Edo-period townhouses, featuring “kiriduma-zukuri-hirairi” (gabled, flat-entrance) architecture, latticed windows, mushiko windows, namako walls, and sleeve walls. These architecturally excellent buildings convey the historical atmosphere of the castle town . Townhouses line the Izumo-odori street, with keyholes at the east, middle, and west ends. 《　津山城下町の城東地区　》

城東伝統的建造物群保存地区は、城下町の東部に位置し、橋本町、林田町、勝間田町、中之町、西新町、東新町の出雲往来沿いを範囲としています。

　商家町として発展した町並みで、江戸時代に形成された町割りをよく残しています。江戸時代の町家を主体として、「切妻造平入り（きりづまづくりひらいり）」とし、出格子、ムシコ窓、なまこ壁、袖壁など意匠的に優れた伝統的建造物が建ち並んでおり、城下町に形成された歴史的な風情を良く伝えています。

　出雲往来に沿って町家が建ち並び、往来は東端・中程・西端の三カ所に鍵折れを設けています。町家の敷地は往来に面しており、間口は一定しませんが、奥行は十七間が原則であったと考えられています。

　敷地の分割や統合が頻繁に行われていた様子が江戸時代の資料からうかがうことができ、城東地区は江戸時代において経済活動が盛んであったといえます。

　東新町にある「城東むかし町家」は江戸時代の豪商の屋敷で、江戸末期の主屋や明治時代の離れ等、往時をしのばせる建築物が残されています。(津山市公式サイトＨＰより）
