【京都おとな旅VLOG#1】初公開の文化財限定公開や京都グルメなどゆっくりと京都を巡ってきました!

A two-day, one-night trip to Kyoto. JR Osaka Station. I’m currently at JR Osaka Station for my trip to Kyoto . I found this and there’s a fun-looking event going on. It’s going to be pretty hot, though. My wife is accompanying me this time. We’re also going to see the special cultural property exhibition. This time, we’ll be touring some places that are being shown for the first time, especially the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater. I’ve always wanted to go, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ll also be using this OSMO Action to take some video. I hope I can reduce camera shake. We’re almost there. Kyoto is always exciting, no matter how many times I’ve been there (^^). Arriving at Kyoto Station. Let’s start by seeing Kyoto Tower. I’ll say hello to Kyoto Tower. It’s been a while! Now, I’m heading to the tourist information center to pick up tickets for my electric vehicle travel reservation. There were some fun experiences on the electric vehicle travel reservation that I’d like to participate in. Sometimes they have sales on experiences at a discount. Kyoto General Tourist Information Center. “Kyoto Navi.” Find all the information you need to see Kyoto. I frequent this place quite often. There are rows and rows of pamphlets. I found out about it for the first time today. They have a one-day subway pass. I exchanged it for the Special Cultural Property Opening Special Set. This set includes two special open-door viewing vouchers. I’m heading to a very popular bakery now. I think it’ll be quiet in the morning. It’s in Karasuma Oike, so I’ll take the subway. I’ll be using the subway quite a bit today. I’ll get more than my money’s worth ( ¨̮ ). I’ve arrived at Karasuma Oike Station. The bakery I’m heading to is Amamda Kotan Kyoto. They have free entry until 10:00. It’s about a four-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station. Is it that townhouse-style building over there? There’s a line. Amamda Kotan Kyoto. It has two floors. It was very crowded. The interior was stylish. They have great taste (^^). I used these breadsticks. They apparently have separate eat-in and take-out portions. My wife is ready to go. Bread with an artistic feel. The prices aren’t too high. The building is a renovated Kyoto townhouse. The exposed beams create a charming atmosphere. Everything looks delicious. (^^) They offer about 120 varieties, including Kyoto-exclusive items made with Kyoto ingredients. The breads are packed with ingredients and look like a full meal. The Croque Madame with Unzen Ham and Kyoto Eggs is 367 yen. A must-buy. From here, we move on to the sweets. The breads are displayed on carved Komatsu stone. The second floor is a relaxing cafe space with 45 seats. It also has an eat-in area. The staircase leading up is also lovely. (^^) They have a wide selection of sweets. It’s stylish! If I were leaving today, I wanted to buy some bread too. I choose based on appearance. It felt like a bread theater. It was so much fun to watch. (^^) Edible art is lined up here. I’ll have this for dinner. For coffee, I used beans from the Kyoto-based brand “% ΔRΔBICΔ.” It’s an original dark-roasted blend. I’m heading for breakfast now. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the Rokkakudo. The matchmaking willow tree is refreshing. My destination is Inoda Coffee Main Branch. It’s a nine-minute walk from Amamuda Kotan, where I visited earlier. Inoda Coffee Main Branch. It’s been a while since I last visited Inoda Coffee. There was a slight wait. I could choose between the main building and the old building, but I chose the old building without hesitation. The main building is also nice, like a hotel lounge. It’s like a time slip. The retro feel is irresistible (^^). What? I almost fell into that illusion. I came here to eat this today. I went outside. The relief is also nice. The brick part of the exterior wall. It’s unique to the main branch, which has been in business since its founding shortly after the war. The bright ceiling creates an open feeling. There’s a garden in the new building. It looks like a quiet and peaceful place to spend time. I’m a bit worried about the parrot that used to be there, though. Kyoto Breakfast 1,830 yen. The roll set costs 1,180 yen and includes a fried shrimp sandwich. The roll set comes with a choice of drink or soup. And then there’s breakfast. It includes custom-made thick-cut ham, scrambled eggs, fruit, salad, a croissant, orange juice, and a choice of drink. I chose the “Pearl of Arabia.” It’s hotel-quality. The “Kyoto Breakfast” set was originally designed with a Western-style hotel breakfast in mind. When the restaurant opened in 1947, there were few Western-style hotels in Kyoto. Apparently, the idea of a “hotel-style Western breakfast in a coffee shop” was refreshing. An elegant morning. The scrambled eggs were fluffy yet well-cooked, with a firm finish. The ham is sourced from Kanagawa Prefecture’s “Ham Kobo Jiro,” among other high-quality hams. You can even make mini sandwiches by placing them between croissants. Delicious! Enjoying this view while eating adds to the elegance. The croissant was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It had a rich buttery aroma. It’s been a while since I’ve had the Arabica Pearl. It had a good balance of bitterness and acidity. It had a robust flavor. Apparently, the name comes from the image of “using Arabica beans to create a refined, sparkling taste like a pearl.” At the tourist information center, we participated in a stamp rally. Apparently, if you visit two designated cultural properties, you can receive a sweet treat. The atmosphere of an elegant, old-fashioned coffee shop remains intact, making you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. Inoda Coffee was absolutely wonderful (^^). Next, we headed to the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater. It’s about a 12-minute walk from here. It’s super hot. It’s getting quite hot. Along the way, we saw agave plants. They ‘re so beautiful. We arrived at the Kamo River. It feels so good! It’s hot, but the scenery is refreshing. ( ¨̮ ). If you look closely, you can see fish swimming. I forgot, but this ticket costs 1,700 yen. You can see two designated cultural properties that are open to the public. There it is. Pontocho Kaburenjo. The exterior of the building is a Western-style building that incorporates Japanese elements. It is a design that blends Japanese and Western styles. This is it. Let’s go. It was completed in 1927 (Showa 2), so it’s a building that’s over 100 years old. We were able to take photos, although not all of it. The tiles are tasteful. They look like bronze. There’s so much to see. It’s heart-pounding (^^). You can go outside, so let’s go. This place is open to the public as a tour, with explanations from the guide. The tour lasts about 20 minutes. Apparently , this was one of the filming locations for the popular movie “National Treasure.” The composition is the same as in the movie. There were also stage costumes on display. From this point on, photography is prohibited, so there were many things I learned for the first time from the guide’s explanation of Pontocho. It was really fun (^^). They’re currently practicing there. I can hear the sounds of them practicing. We’ve reached the third floor. You can see the back of the onigawara tile from below. It’s a tile modeled after the Bugaku mask of the Chinese “Lanling King.” They are said to have been placed there as guardian deities praying for the prosperity of Pontocho. The final part of the tour was an explanation of the tiles. One tile has an inverted design, which is said to represent “striving to practice the arts and achieving perfection.” Inside, there were many captivating designs. Let’s go see the areas mentioned in the explanation. This is the backstage door. The exterior wall tiles are scratch tiles, which have a rough, grooved surface and were commonly used in modern architecture at the time. The exterior wall of the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater is finished with scratch tiles, a symbol of modern architecture from the early Showa period. Their texture and solidity enhance the prestige of performing arts. There were other interesting places mentioned in the explanation. There must be a mark. There it is! This street with the plover pattern is the street that leads to the Takase River. And at the entrance to Pontocho, there were countless plover patterns. The architectural beauty of the building was great, but the guide’s explanations were also excellent. It was a fun tour. It’s time to head for lunch. There’s a cafe inside the former Kyoto Prefectural Government Office building, so I head there. I also want to see some modern architecture! I arrived at Marutamachi Station, a nine-minute walk from here. Right outside the station is the Daimaru Villa, another landmark in Kyoto’s modern architectural history. Built in 1926 (Taisho 15), it was originally a villa for the Shimomura family, the founding family of Daimaru Department Store. They also occasionally offer special tours. Along the way, I came across a shrine. It ‘s said to be the birthplace of Sugawara no Michizane. Let’s go and check it out. First, I went to the Chozuya (water purification fountain). It’s said that the Sugawara family’s residence was located here during the Heian period. A well called “Sugawara no Michizane’s Birth Bath Well” remains within the grounds. It’s said to have been used for Michizane’s first bath. I pray for blessings . Though it’s a small shrine, it has a dignified presence. There’s a stroking cow. Now, let’s head to the Kyoto Prefectural Office. Along the way, we pass the ruins of Nijo Castle. The old main building of the Kyoto Prefectural Office is still in use, and you can tour the interior. The old main building is Japan’s oldest active government building. Completed in 1904 (Meiji 37), it is known as a valuable building where work is still being carried out. Its beautiful design blends Western and Japanese elements, and it has been designated an Important Cultural Property. While many prefectural office buildings across the country were built during the Meiji period, only a few remain in use . The retro feel is superb! Before lunch, we strolled inside. I wonder if this was once in use? It’s like a scene from a movie. It’s a romantic atmosphere, like a European noblewoman descending. The corridors exude a stately atmosphere , typical of dignified government buildings from the Meiji era. There’s a courtyard. Let’s go to the old assembly hall. You can see a weeping cherry tree there. This is a weeping cherry tree, grown from a seedling, and is the grandson of the original “Gion Weeping Cherry Tree” in Maruyama Park. It feels like I’m going outside for a bit. This might be it. Oh! The Kyoto Prefectural Assembly met here until 1971, long serving as the center of Kyoto politics. Though it’s a practical assembly hall, it exudes a certain elegance. Let’s move on to the next thing. We head to the second floor. The staircase has a certain atmosphere, too. There are nameplates around here, so I guess it’s still in use. We arrived at the former governor’s office. Here, you’ll find desks and leather chairs used by past governors. It has a retro feel, like something out of a movie. It makes you want to speak. There’s a fireplace. The decorations are amazing. Oh! It seems it was in use until the year I was born. (^^) Let’s take a look at the other side. This is the main hall. Since the Meiji period, this official hall has been the site of important ceremonies and events for the prefectural government. It’s dignified and elegant. I wonder if this area remains the same as it was back then. This space is considered particularly important among Kyoto’s modern architectural cultural assets. It’s time for lunch. It’s picturesque. The staircase is also a highlight . The decorations are intricate. Salon de 1904. Takeout is a great deal (^^). The cafe menu is extensive. I used EX Travel Destination Reservation again. A meal and drink set of your choice is 1,500 yen. This place is a relaxed space, immersed in the stately wooden architecture and Meiji-era atmosphere. It also features cutting-edge design and a stylish atmosphere . The meal and drink menu offered sandwiches and pasta . Parfaits and French toast are also available. The large windows make the interior bright. Neapolitan spaghetti. Neapolitan is synonymous with Kyoto. The fluffy egg sandwich. It came with a generous serving of potato salad (^^). For my drink, I chose Ryunosuke. It’s a special blend from Maeda Coffee, a long-established Kyoto coffee shop. The egg sandwich was quite filling. The egg was thick and fluffy. The mustard was subtle, which I liked. The Neapolitan was a ketchup-based sauce with onions, green peppers, and ham. It was a traditional Neapolitan. The flavor was sweet with tomato. The noodles were thick and satisfying. It had a nostalgic taste. Ryunosuke Coffee was… It was elegant and had a clean aftertaste. It was easy to drink. It had a historic feel. The cafe was great . It was about time to head to the hotel to check in. This time, the hotel is in Takaragaike, where you can find coolness. Ohara Onna. Apparently, Takaragaike is here. It’s a bit far from the station (><). Tonight, I’m staying at The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike. The room rate had dropped, so I booked a room with the club lounge. It doesn’t seem that cool. Arrived at the hotel. It’s so relaxing in a place surrounded by nature (^^). That’s the Kyoto International Conference Center. The hotel is round. I went to check in. It really does have an elegance. First, I went to my room. I entered. I wonder what kind of room it is? Wow. It’s elegant (^^). It has a mature atmosphere. They said you could see Mt. Hiei from the room. When I opened the curtains, I saw a wonderful view (^^). I think that’s Mt. Hiei. The greenery sure is soothing to the eyes. Our room came with a welcome dessert. The dessert was top-notch! (^^) It also came with sparkling wine. I’m heading to the lounge now. I wonder if I can eat it. The lounge is on the first floor. This is it! There’s a beautiful Japanese garden! As you’d expect from Prince! I’ve had a few. I’ve been eating nothing but desserts for a while now. ^_^;. It’s afternoon now . Cocktail time will start soon . I might not be able to eat any more. The carp are swimming gracefully. Cocktail time has begun. (^^) The beer was my favorite, Ichiban Shibori. My wife picked a variety. There wasn’t much to choose from, but each dish looked delicious . (^^) The pot-au-feu’s Saikyo miso flavor was exceptional. (^^) It’s about time to leave the hotel and head to Nijo Castle. My one-day subway pass will be very useful today. I arrived at Nijojo-mae Station. I headed to Exit 1. I wonder how long it’s been since I’ve been to Nijo Castle. I saw it in Heiankyo last year. I wonder how it will be this year. Nijo Castle! Nijo Castle was right outside the station. It might still be a little early. I used EX Travel Destination Reservation again this time. EX Reservation offered a sale discount. Let’s go! “NAKED meets Nijo Castle Evening Cool” is a visually stunning event recreated as a “summer cool-off experience” using contemporary art techniques. It’s still light out, so let ‘s head over to the festival. Fantastic music. It ‘s said to instantly cool you down. It certainly is. Is this the festival area? There’s a NAKED-esque gimmick. What’s this? That’s the festival area. There was a candle scooping game, typical of NAKED. The lights are coming up. Let’s go inside. Drinks and other items are available for purchase here. It’s time to head to the venue. My excitement is building! (^^) This is what the venue looked like. The main attraction was a fireworks projection mapping. Paper lanterns were available for rental, for a fee. It starts around here. It’s fantastical and artistic. It looks like fireflies are flying. This is the projection mapping venue. Ripples of light, goldfish, and fireworks are projected onto the stone walls of the inner moat. It was a truly spectacular projection mapping. The lanterns look like that. The garden was also very beautiful! There was projection mapping here too. A stationary pattern? It looks like it’s finished here. We’ve come to the festival area. It was truly a spectacle of coolness and fantasy. History and cutting-edge art blended together. It was a luxurious experience worthy of a Kyoto summer. I wonder where we’ll do it next year. It’s about time to head back to the hotel. This is the end of today’s video. Next time… At Kamigamo Shrine. A wind chime experience. And viewing ceramic tile masterpieces. A Western-style lunch at a long-established restaurant. A limited-time opening of Higashi Honganji Temple. Thank you for watching this far. See you in the next video!
