This trip Kochi Prefecture in Japan Taking a short break at the Yojima Service Area on the Seto Ohashi Bridge. There was a guy named Wataru who could take selfies with a timer. Just in time, a JR Shikoku train heads toward Okayama. Behind the left side of the Seto Ohashi Monument, there is a hill, so I’ll go take a look. Today there seemed to be a haze, so Shikoku was only faintly visible. This is the Toyohama Service Area where I often stop for breaks. The dried sardine ramen here is delicious. You can’t miss out on katsu curry either. We have arrived at Bishamon Falls in Okayama-cho, Nankoku City, Kochi Prefecture. The sound of the waterfall calms my heart in the stillness. This is Ryūō-in Temple, located right next door. The principal deity is Bishamonten, the God of Victory, who bestows various blessings such as luck in competition, financial fortune, good fortune and wealth, and the opening of fortune and the summoning of happiness. This is Tosa Shrine in Ichinomiya, Kochi City. This is read as “ikkū”. This shrine, once revered as the chief guardian deity of Tosa Province, represents Kochi Prefecture. Behind the main hall, there is a path where you can stroll while feeling the sun’s dappled light filtering through the trees. Passing through the path leads to the ‘Purification Ritual Site’ on the east side of the main shrine. It is said that passing through after turning left, right, and left again purifies both body and mind. Itsukushima Shrine, located east of the main hall, is said to be the deity of matchmaking. Katsurahama Beach, known as a prime spot for viewing the full moon. You can see banners featuring Mr. Yanase, the creator of Anpanman, all over town. Following Ranman, which aired from April 2023 and was set in Kochi, I look forward to Anpan every week. I heard it underwent a complete renovation in March 2023, and I was surprised to see it had changed completely from when I visited before. The top left shows the townscape before renovation. We heard the tourist information center offers free guided tours, and since it was just the afternoon session time, we signed up. The information center was filled with the spirit of Kochi, making it an incredibly exciting space. We received Yanase-san’s character stickers. At the scenic spot, our guide took photos of us too. Wow! You can now gaze out at the Pacific Ocean from the perspective of the Ryoma statue! We climb the stairs with excitement. I’ll stop by on my way home. The previous statue of Ryoma looked like this and had a somewhat lonely feel to it. Yay! I found Ryoma! He said, “My heart is always in the Pacific.” I was screaming inside, “This is the best weather ever!” Katsurahama Aquarium, also known as “Hamasui,” has been ranked number one in Japan’s most popular aquariums. We’ll head down to the shoreline for a little relaxation. The Pacific Ocean is calm. Having received healing, we will visit Watatsumi Shrine at Ryūō Cape. Today I was fortunate enough to receive a temple stamp. The vast Pacific Ocean Gazing out at this vast ocean, I can’t help but feel how small I am. It’s hard to tell from the video, but the Earth really is round. We are grateful that we made it here safely. The view from the observation deck one level higher Here is the goshuin I received earlier from Watatsumi Shrine. Along with the temple stamp, there was also a cute wooden bookmark included. We’ll stop by Kochi Lighthouse on our way back. It was an incredibly steep staircase, but We arrived after walking for about ten minutes. Climbing up to the lighthouse observation deck? revealed a truly Kochi-esque collaboration of trees and sea that was simply magnificent. Kochi Lighthouse has served as a beacon for the sea for about 140 years since 1883. When visiting Kochi, you absolutely must not miss Hagi no Chaya in Tosa City, Kochi Prefecture. You can see the fishing port from the window. The shellfish, beef, and fried rice at this restaurant are so delicious you’ll want to come back again and again. Dinner time always has a huge line, but We arrived a little early, so there was no waiting time. Last but not least, Kochi’s famous ice cream We enjoyed super fresh and delicious ingredients for 8,620 yen. Today’s travel left us completely exhausted, and we’re fast asleep! For breakfast on the second day, we had the bonito rolled sushi we had purchased the previous evening at the nearby supermarket, Marunaka. The hotel front desk will accept the ice packs you brought with you. We would like to express our gratitude to Southern City Hotel and the restaurant Gudurak for their hospitality during this visit. Behind the hotel We’re heading to a bakery we absolutely can’t miss right now. It takes about 10 minutes by car to arrive. Here at CHITAPAN is truly the most delicious bakery we’ve ever tasted. Every time we go to Kochi, we always make sure to go buy it. We came to the Sunday market that has been held for over 300 years since 1690, which we had been looking forward to. It was held on the road immediately east of Kochi Castle. Nearly 300 shops line up over a distance of about 1 km east to west. Fresh vegetables and fruits are sold in abundance, filling every available space. We purchased loquats and pomelos at this store. It was very sweet and delicious. The famous “Imo-ten” They’re lined up all the way around the store. But everyone buys them by the bag. The time to purchase is fast. Everyone is cooking efficiently. Watching that scene unfold, our turn came in the blink of an eye. It was so hot I burned the roof of my mouth. We bought a small potted plant. And we bought some inexpensive charcoal for deodorizing. Next to the Sunday Market is Hirome Market, so We decided to go in for a bit. We wanted to eat straw-grilled bonito at Yairotei if it was open, but There was always a line, and today it was pretty long too, so we gave up. Next time We have some free time, I’ll come eat here. At Ogawa Forging I finally bought the Tosa Miyabi knife I’ve always wanted! My excitement is rising♪ On the way to the pristine Niyodo River in Kochi Prefecture We stopped by Hatayama Garden, the pizza place we inquired about at the hotel front desk. It seems you can also enjoy it at the terrace seating. This restaurant was selected as one of Tabelog’s Top 100 Pizza Restaurants. They seemed to have a wide variety of fruit tomato pizzas and drinks. Of course, we ordered the fruit tomato pizza and shake, and the strawberry shake. Fruit tomatoes are crazy sweet! With our stomachs satisfied, we head toward the Niyodo River. After a long time, when we passed by again, a roadside station had been built. It seems that in 2023, a facility was established in Sakawa, the hometown of Dr. Makino, the botanist. This is a butcher shop selling red beef that a local recommended to me, but Unfortunately, they weren’t selling it that day. We have arrived at the Asao Submerged Bridge over the Niyodo River. The sound of flowing water and the chorus of nightingales create a soothing harmony that you can feel throughout your entire body. The konnyaku oden at this Drive-In Hikijibashi is especially delicious with its firm texture. A long-established store dating back to the late Meiji period. It was so delicious I couldn’t help but sigh with pleasure. Right away, another serving Next, I also received some chikuwa. We finally arrived at our destination, Nakatsu Valley. With Children’s Day approaching, carp streamers are swimming bravely. The pristine waters flowing into the Niyodo River rush down with great force. Along the way to the final destination, Uryu Falls, bizarre rock formations and the Seven Lucky Gods appear one after another. The river water glows emerald green. Just a quick break After walking along the approximately 1.6 km trail, Uryu Falls comes into view. We’ve returned to the base of the mountain, so we’d like to go to a day-trip hot spring now. Right next door is Nakatsu Valley Yu no Mori. The hot spring is at the back left upon entering the front entrance. After that, we soaked leisurely in the hot springs and were able to soothe our fatigue. The spring water is an alkaline simple sulfur cold mineral spring. Mineral spring: 21.1°C (70.2°F), pH 9.0. My skin felt moisturized at the natural hot spring with an open-air bath. We returned to the hotel and dined at Gudrak. We had the ‘Shamo Hot Pot Set’ and the ‘Shimanto Pork Cutlet Set Meal’. The seared bonito, mozuku seaweed, spicy octopus, dried sardines, and grated daikon radish on the left were complimentary for guests.
Thank you, Southern City. I was completely satisfied. From the hotel’s 3rd floor, you can access Restaurant Guldrak through this connecting passageway at the back. It was the middle of the night, so the lights were off. We got some ice at the left-hand location, so we’ll head back to the room. We walked a lot again today, so our feet got swollen. Since rain is forecast all day today, we plan to visit Makino Botanical Garden in the morning and Anpanman Museum in the afternoon. For those visiting both Makino Botanical Garden and Anpanman Museum, the set ticket that includes an original tote bag is a great deal. For details, please check

on the Kochi Travel Network. We purchased it at the Southern City Hotel where we were staying. Here’s the tote bag we got.
Isn’t it super cute? Colorful flowers bloom in the spacious garden. We took commemorative photos at the photo spot again this time. The charm of raindrops trickling down has a soothing effect on the mind. It’s clear that Professor Makino’s study was overflowing with books and specimens. We’ll go inside the greenhouse. It’s like a tropical rainforest. Rare plants are growing all around. You can’t ride here, but you can see giant water lilies. We wanted to have dorome for lunch, so we went to Tosa no Sato in Kochi City. Nishimura Shoten, where you can enjoy delicious seafood, and There are places like ‘Aki Shirasu Shokudo’ that serve you mudfish. This time, we went with the ‘Doro-me Rice Bowl’ and the ‘Kamaage Chirimen Rice Bowl + Kakiage’. Doro-me isn’t always available, so we were lucky it was in stock that day. Doro-me is extremely perishable and precious, while the shirasu was sweet and the kakiage was crispy and satisfying. Adding Kochi’s signature yuzu juice changes the flavor and makes it delicious in a whole new way. After eating, we went to the Anpanman Museum. Bikkinman’s eyes glow Can you see Anpanman on the museum’s rooftop? Upon entering the building, cute characters will greet you. Anpanman is flying cutely on the ceiling. You can collect embossed stamps by collecting them at 10 locations throughout the venue. The little children were happily frolicking. Commemorative photos can also be taken. The merchandise from years past reminds me of when the kids were little. Since photos of the exhibits on this floor are prohibited for social media posts, we encourage you to visit in person and enjoy them! Since we could step outside along the route, we took in some fresh air. We’ll head back inside the exhibition hall to view the exhibits. There are three exhibition halls—1, 2, and 3—so please take your time to enjoy them thoroughly. Stone statues of characters line the nearby plaza. Is this Mimi-sensei? I absolutely love the peaceful scenery behind the house. When the museum closed, Anpanman was no longer on the rooftop. On the way back, I stopped by Ryuga Hot Springs, marked by a large tanuki statue. This hot spring only has indoor baths, but with a pH of 9.2, it’s alkaline and has a wonderfully slippery feel that made my skin absolutely delighted. After stopping by the souvenir shop to exchange my stamp card for a Ryoma passport, I’ll head to the Kochi Ryoma Airport Information Desk, which is open at this hour. There’s a ‘Hello Phone’ where you can spend a moment saying goodbye to someone through glass. You can see the words “Kochi Family” everywhere. We feel welcomed into a home in Kochi, and it makes us feel a deep sense of connection. The dorome was delicious!
I slept like a log! Today turned out to be another beautiful day. Today’s breakfast was also bought without hesitation at Chitapan-san. We went straight to Ya Shi Park and bought melons. This is the Tosa Kuroshio Railway Gomen-Nahari Line.
It’s in the Hanshin Tigers colors, isn’t it? Walking along the coast. The sea breeze feels refreshing. Next, we’ll head to Nishijima Horticultural Complex, where you can get great deals on fruit. The parking lot was very spacious and easy to park in. We purchased melon and watermelon fruit coupons. I think 880 yen is a great deal for this. Why is it so delicious?
We’ll definitely eat it again next time. Here too, we bought melons. We went to the seafood restaurant ‘Ryoma’ for a slightly late lunch. The rice is cooked in a traditional Japanese kamado stove, a popular method in Japan. 『Freshly Prepared Horse Mackerel Sashimi Set Meal』 And here’s the “Ryoma Bowl”! When you order, they’ll scoop it out of the fish tank with a net and cook it for you. When you come to Kochi, you absolutely must try Ryoma for its fresh seafood bursting with flavor. These are the statues of Sakamoto Ryoma, Takechi Hanpeita, and Nakaoka Shintaro south of Kochi Station. Staying overnight gets you two stamps per night in your Ryoma Passport, so it filled up in no time. We had our passport upgraded at the Ryoma Passport Issuance Counter located behind the tourist information guide. Kochi is also famous for its sweet potato chips. I like the sweet potato chips from this shop in the souvenir corner at Kochi Station the best. At the stairs leading up to the JR platform, Anpanman and Baikinman will greet you. Transferring to the city tram is right next door. The Anpanman Train was just stopping. The gentle words and kindness of the people of Kochi, And exquisite ingredients Especially fruit tomatoes It was the deep, sweet, nostalgic taste of tomatoes I used to eat as a child. It was a journey filled with healing and wonder for both body and soul. This time, for those who haven’t yet visited Kochi Prefecture I hope you can feel at least a little bit of Kochi’s charm. I wanted to stay much, much longer~ Something I always think about… If only I had one more day…
