【沖縄旅行】宮古島おすすめ観光スポット 絶景ドライブコース『伊良部大橋』・「幻のビーチ」幻想的な雰囲気の『17END』等を紹介 第3話 2泊3日夫婦二人旅
Miyakojima Travel: Irabu Island and Shimoji Island Thank you for watching. If you would like to support us, please subscribe and like our channel. Hello, we’re Elucoco Travel. It’s the second day of our trip to Miyakojima. The weather looks good today.
It’s perfect for sightseeing. And where are we heading now? We’re heading towards Irabu Island and Shimoji Island. These two islands belong to Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture,
and are remote islands connected to Miyakojima by the Irabu Bridge. We’ll be introducing these four places, so please read to the end. Our first destination is the Irabu Bridge. Opened in 2015, the Irabu Bridge connects the main island of Miyakojima and Irabu Island. At 3,540 meters long, it’s the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. We’ve arrived at the plaza just before the bridge. We can get a panoramic view of the Irabu Bridge. This is a monument to the Kagimana Hula, a Guinness World Record-breaking achievement achieved by 1,509 people dancing hula simultaneously. We take a short walk. The water is so clear. The “Miyako Blue” is breathtaking. I’m going to cross this bridge now.
By car, of course (lol). I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of scenery it will show us. The endless “Miyako Blue” is amazing. The reason the bridge is not a straight line is to protect the seaweed beds and coral reefs. One of its charms is the large bulge that secures the shipping lane. It feels like you’re running into the sky and taking off. The view behind us is also spectacular. Irabu Island stands out in front of you. The Irabu Bridge is a special 3,540-meter-long drive over the sea. It’s no exaggeration to say that we came to Miyakojima to see this view. The weather was good today, so I’m glad everyone was able to see this magnificent view. It’s sad to say goodbye to the Irabu Bridge, but it’s time to say goodbye. We’ve arrived at Irabu Island. Next we head to 17END is a scenic spot located at the northern tip of Shimojishima Island. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Miyakojima Airport and about 10 minutes from Shimojishima Airport. Cross this bridge to reach Shimojishima. Irabujima and Shimojishima look like one island, but they’re actually connected by several bridges. If you go straight here, you’ll reach Shimojishima Airport.
We’ll turn left, I can’t wait to see what’s next. There is a food truck at the entrance. There’s a dog next to it. So cute! It looks like it’s feeling the breeze (lol). Wow! This is so amazing! The blue gradation continues on and on. The sky is clearing and the beautiful sea is about to be revealed. The sky is clearing and the beautiful sea is about to be revealed. It’s low tide now. Up ahead there is a special spot that can only be seen at low tide. It’s a “phantom beach” that only appears at low tide. I decided to go down to the beach. There are no stairs, only tetrapods, so it’s a bit difficult.
Are sandals a bit dangerous? The crystal clear ocean and sparkle, the beauty of this blue, are beyond imagination. Next to the walkway at 17end is the runway of Shimojishima Airport. The name 17end comes from the runway’s identification number, “17,” and “RunwayEnd,” which means the end of the runway in aviation terminology. Up ahead you can see planes landing up close. We’re still a little ways away from our arrival time, so I’m walking slowly. For some reason, everyone starts running. The plane comes into view and everyone panics. Even though it’s not yet the scheduled time. I managed to make it in time. Apologies for the poor framing; I was pressed for time and the backlight made the screen hard to see. What did you think of “17end”?
The fantastic atmosphere, crystal clear blue water (commonly known as Miyako Blue) and white sand beaches, and the planes approaching the beach make this a truly spectacular tourist spot. Next we head to Shimojishima’s Toori Pond It’s just a three-minute drive from 17 End. We arrived in no time. I’ll walk down this aisle. Toriike Pond is a mysterious pond where legends of mermaids and stepchildren remain, and it has been designated a national natural monument. The tree growing there is apparently called “Adan.” The path is well-maintained and easy to walk,
but it’s quite a long walk at about 300m.
Perhaps we could enjoy forest bathing? There’s a gazebo, so I go in. Toriike Pond is connected to the open sea by an underground cavern, with two ponds, one large and one small. This is the ocean-facing pond, approximately 75m in diameter and 50m deep. The inland-facing pond is approximately 55m in diameter and 40m deep. The color of the pond apparently changes depending on the time of day and the weather.
It’s quite mystical. Toriike Pond is one of Japan’s top diving spots, but it’s apparently a diving course for advanced divers. There’s a promenade, so I head further along. Greenery spreads over the Ryukyu limestone. Is this a trumpet lily? The promenade used to connect to Nabesoko Pond, but it was damaged in a typhoon in 2016 and is now closed to traffic. Next we head to Makiyama Observatory It’s about a 15-minute drive from Shimojishima Airport and about 20 minutes from Miyako Airport. Located in the southeast of Irabu Island, it’s the highest point on the island and offers magnificent views. From the parking lot, you will walk up a slight slope. The observation deck appeared before us. It is said to be modeled after a Grey-faced Buzzard-Eye Buzzard, a migratory bird that comes to the island, spreading its wings in flight. It’s an observation deck, so there are stairs, of course.
I’ll try my best to climb them. We arrived. In the foreground is a deep green virgin forest.
In the background is the ocean, with its beautiful gradations of blue. This is where the wings are spread. We can see the Irabu Bridge, Miyako Island, and Ikema Island in one view. Sadly, this is the end for today. Next time, we will be introducing Ikema Island, Blue Sea Loo Painagama Branch,
Maruyoshi Shokudo, a popular Miyako soba restaurant, and more. I look forward to seeing you in the next video! Thank you for watching until the end.
