#183 高龍神社・彌彦神社 新潟旅行・神社巡り / Niigata Shrine Tour: Koryu Shrine & Yahiko Shrine
During my trip to Niigata I visited two shrines The first one we visited was Located in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture On the hilltop Takaryu Shrine came into view. The parking lot was located just past the second tunnel. Be careful not to miss it. This time, we’ll walk back through the tunnel. After passing through the tunnel As I walked toward the shrine there were several shops. Even if they call it a shortcut… I just felt awkward going into the shop, so I kept walking ahead At the shop further ahead According to the custom of Takaryu Shrine, the offerings of “raw eggs” and “sacred sake” were being sold. Offerings are not sold at the shrine so my partner purchased them here. It’s an amazing doll. And then we headed toward the temple grounds. To reach the temple grounds, you must climb 118 steep stone steps. That steep hill looks exhausting. But rest assured An elevator is installed. I felt relieved. We took the elevator partway up, but climbed the final stretch up narrow, steep stone steps. At the last torii gate’s water basin I purified my hands. Panting and puffing as I climbed I finally caught sight of the main shrine. The principal deity enshrined here is “Takaryu-no-Ōkami.” “Toyotama-hime-no-Mikoto” is also enshrined here. It is famous for its blessings of business prosperity and increased financial fortune. Business owners praying for company prosperity It is said that people who wish to win the lottery come to pray here. I hope it hits. The white snake is also considered a messenger of the enshrined deity. Therefore, within the temple grounds statues and ornaments of white snakes were placed. It is said that there are actually white snakes around the shrine. We paid our respects at the main shrine and offered the gifts we brought earlier. My partner was getting a temple stamp. After paying our respects, we turned back. Going down I was walking down on my own two feet It’s a narrow, steep staircase. On the way to our next destination by car we saw the great torii gate of Koryu Shrine It was a truly magnificent torii gate. Next, we headed to enshrined in Yahiko Village, Nishikanbara District, Niigata Prefecture There were many free parking lots in the surrounding area. It’s a spacious parking lot, isn’t it? From the parking lot, we proceed along the approach path toward the main shrine. The 6-meter-tall “First Torii Gate” on the Omotesando approach, but the torii gate on the Higashi-sando approach is also quite large. A road crosses the approach path. We’ll obey the traffic signals properly. Walking along the East Approach, Can you see anything? As I approached, it was the Deer Park. It’s a fairly large deer park. The deer are kept here as creatures deeply connected to the Man’yōshū anthology of poems. A newborn fawn lay in the shade of the trees. Fawns are cute. Next to the deer enclosure was the “Japanese Chicken House.” It houses breeds such as the “Tomaru”, a natural monument of Niigata Prefecture. Further along the approach path past the stone monument we came to the temizuya. After purifying your hands here we will proceed to the main hall. This is the stone “Second Torii Gate,” constructed from Inada stone. The torii gate stands 6 meters tall with a large capstone measuring 8.4 meters in length and is a nationally registered tangible cultural property. It’s big and impressive. Proceed past the “Sacred Horse Stable” on the right side of the approach. The enshrined deity at Yahiko Shrine is “Amakasan no Mikoto.” The blessings include “prosperous business,” “bountiful harvests,” “domestic safety,” and “warding off misfortune.” Furthermore, within Niigata Prefecture it is said to be a representative power spot. Walking along the approach feels refreshing. This is the “Suijin Gate.” Generally it’s called “Suijinmon,” but Yahiko Shrine is written as “Sui-jinmon.” The architectural style is a hip-and-gable roof. The roof is copper-plated. It was built in 1940. What a splendid gate. Within the gates To guard the residence of the Great Deity On the left side is “Nagatsuna” On the right side is “Nagaki” Worshiping the brother deities. Passing through the Sui-jin Gate, we pay our respects at the worship hall. The worship hall features an irimoya roof structure with a korabafu-style entrance porch attached to its entire front. The main shrine hall beyond the worship hall is a three-bay nagare-zukuri style structure with a covered approach. During the “Yahiko Fire” at the end of the Meiji period, it is said that the worship hall and main shrine were destroyed. That was quite a fire, wasn’t it? The current magnificent shrine building was rebuilt in 1916. Here too My partner was getting a temple stamp. This is the goshuin from Yahiko Shrine. Along the approach path stood the “Stone of Heavy and Light.” This stone is said to reveal the fulfillment of your heart’s wish based on how heavy it feels when lifted. it is said to be able to foretell I managed to lift it, but it was heavy. When I visit a shrine, somehow my heart feels at peace. Thank you for watching this video. Thank you very much. We look forward to your continued support.
