A Total Lunar Eclipse in 30 Seconds!
On September 8, 2025 (JST), Japan witnessed a total lunar eclipse: 00:28 penumbral start → 02:30 totality begins → 03:11 maximum → 03:52 totality ends → 05:55 penumbral end. We compressed the ~3.5-hour event into a 30-second time-lapse.
This video uses footage from a live stream. In the original footage, the Moon drifts across the frame, so we stabilized the image to keep the Moon fixed near the center. As a result, the overlay at the top of the screen (superimposed text/graphics) may appear to shift slightly. Thank you for your understanding.
Why does the Moon turn red? During totality, Rayleigh scattering in Earth’s atmosphere removes blue light and bends red light into the umbra, painting the Moon copper-red. The exact hue varies with atmospheric dust and moisture.
This eclipse was widely visible across Asia, Australia, Africa, and parts of Europe, with many skywatchers sharing vivid “blood moon” views around the world.

30秒で皆既月食！
2025年9月8日未明に起きた天体ショー「皆既月食」。日本では 0:28（半影食開始）→ 2:30（皆既食開始）→ 3:11（食の最大）→ 3:52（皆既食終了）→ 5:55（半影食終了） と進行し、部分月食のはじめからおしまいまで約3時間半の月の変化を30秒にギュッと凝縮しました。
本作はライブ配信の映像を使用しています。実際の映像では月が視野内で動くため、月を画面中央に固定する編集（スタビライズ）を行いました。その影響で、画面上部のスーパーインポーズ（テロップ等）が細かく動いて見えます。ご了承ください。
皆既中に月が赤く染まるのは、地球の大気で青い光が散乱し、赤い光だけが曲がって月面を照らすため（レイリー散乱）。火山灰や水蒸気など大気の状態で赤さが変わることもあります。
この皆既月食はアジア・オーストラリア・アフリカ・東欧など世界の広い地域で観測され、日本各地でも雲の合間から赤い満月が楽しめました。
