Hello. Today, we’re taking a drive through Kumamoto and Aso. Aso is home to one of the world’s largest calderas,
with rich nature and idyllic landscapes. Under the summer sun, we head toward the volcanic and grassy plains. First, we work up an appetite to enjoy Aso’s specialty: Akaushi beef bowl. At a Michelin-listed restaurant, we savor the bounty of this land. Aso Akaushi Specialty Restaurant “Yamayasu” After about an hour’s wait, our turn finally arrives. A dish that lets you fully enjoy Akaushi beef raised in Aso’s nature. Anticipation builds. Premium Akaushi beef, graded A3 to A5, fresh and exquisite. The creamy soft-boiled egg blends perfectly with the beef. The spicy miso sauce enhances the flavor even more. Shiso leaves add a refreshing touch. We savor it slowly while enjoying the expansive view of Aso. The delicious sounds and aromas are already filling the air. A highly satisfying sirloin steak. Juicy and rich in flavor, truly a delight. The wait was well worth it. Thank you for the meal. With our stomachs full, we head to a place that nourishes the heart. The sound of cool water refreshes the mind, making you forget the heat. Just watching people enjoy the water brings a sense of calm and comfort. Shirakawa Spring is one of Kumamoto’s representative springs, selected as one of Japan’s “100 Famous Waters.” The water is 14°C, and 60 tons gush out every minute without pause. The spring water can be freely drunk or taken home. Nearby stands Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine. It quietly protects the pure water of the spring. At Shirakawa Spring, my mind feels completely clear. A feeling of being embraced by the majestic mountains. A special moment only Aso can offer. Along the road that stretches endlessly, my spirits lift and expand. The iconic horses grazing at Kusasenri-ga-hama. Aso’s representative grassland spreads at about 1,100 meters above sea level. A unique sense of openness, only in Aso. Surrounded by fresh air, you naturally crave a good cup of coffee. The aroma of freshly roasted coffee brings a comforting calm. A perfect cup for the drive back. Original coffee beans and cups are also available. Fresh milk from cows raised on Aso’s grass and water. We finish by enjoying a unique flavor made with this milk. The rich milk and sesame flavor is truly exceptional. It was a short day, but my mind feels calm and at ease. A place I want to slowly visit again whenever I need to rest my mind.
