足摺テルメリフトカーの跡を探して、謎の廃遊園に出会う
Have you noticed the ruins already within view? They’re right on this steep slope, but you can’t see them at all On the left is the still-active Ashizuri Terme, which opened in 1993 There used to be a lift car connecting the Terme to the foot of the mountain, but it’s completely obscured by the trees The remains of the summit station have been renovated into a “Lovers’ Sanctuary” The Terme are still in operation, but the lift cars were discontinued in the 1990s My original goal this time was to find the remains of the lift cars Heading toward the station at the base of the mountain Actually, you can see the remains of the tracks on the left here I was distracted by the shed in front of me and missed it These sheds appear to have been warehouses related to lift cars and other equipment Here, too, the tracks are visible in the lower left corner of the screen However, my misunderstanding led to an unexpected encounter, so please bear with me for a moment Here, too, the steeply inclined tracks can be faintly seen between the trees Was the station building demolished, or was it never there in the first place? A shed has collapsed There are stonework and other features, so it’s clearly a built promenade However, it doesn’t appear to be in use It says “Finish Line” There are safety mats and the remains of a simple lift track It was probably a structure where you would slide down and then return on a simple lift It might have been a bobsled-like playground Unexpectedly, this one looks more interesting, so let’s try climbing it It was probably a small amusement park with a field athletics-type structure It appears to have been an annex to Ashizuri Terme Ashizuri Terme was in the midst of a bubble during its planning, but the bubble had already burst by the time it was completed It became a national lodging facility in 1998 and transitioned to the designated manager system in 2006 It closed in June 2020, then reopened after renovations in November of the following year This facility will also close in March 2024, and only a portion of the facility will likely remain operational as of 2025 These playground equipment and lift cars appear to have been abandoned in 1998, when the area became a public lodging facility At least as of 2003, the lift cars hadn’t been running You can see the tracks of the simple lift over there I would like to have taken it up the mountain This area is now overgrown with weeds I can see something up ahead There’s a huge bridge It’s impossible to walk around the slide, so I have to go around it That slide seems to be a “forest slide” There’s a lodge It said “Ticket booth for sledding,” and it seemed to cost 300 yen per ride “No toilets allowed. Please use the restrooms at Ashizuri Terme” It was indeed part of Ashizuri Terme There are remains of a Tarzan rope-like playground equipment This is the end of the lift As expected, it was a facility where you descended by sled and returned by lift “Forest Trail” The bridge deck is damaged, so proceed with caution It was a suspension bridge connecting Ashizuri Terme You could go there if you wanted to, but it looks like it’s blocked off on the other side Let’s take a look at the route of the “Forest Trail” There’s some kind of building here It’s a greenhouse-like hut “These beetles belong to everyone. Please don’t take them home” It appears to be a hut for raising beetles I left the road to look for my original destination: the lift car tracks I found a 18-gallon can lying on the ground I could see the remains of the tracks I thought about descending along the tracks, but it was too steep and difficult I decided to take the safe route down I returned to the forest trail A slide can be seen on the left Near the finish line of the slide The bottom of the lift car track can be seen among the trees The foot of the lift car track Apparently, they walked here from the parking lot at the base of the mountain and then boarded the lift car But Ashizuri Terme has a large parking lot No one climbs up on foot like I do The lift car was never needed in the first place Finally, let’s take a look at the remains of the summit station inside Ashizuri Terme With its charming paintings, it’s become a “lovers’ sanctuary” for taking photos There should be a platform beyond this door Let’s go down the slope on the side As expected, this bridge was closed on the Ashizuri Terme side I had intended to visit the remains of the short-lived lift car But there I discovered a little-known abandoned amusement park Thank you for watching.

高知県土佐清水市足摺岬にある国民宿舎足摺テルメには、かつてリフトカーが設置されていました。1993年に開業し、温泉やプール、レストランなどを備えた四国最大級の公営温泉施設でした。1998年には国民宿舎となり、リフトカーは麓のホテル街と本館を結んでいましたが、不採算により運行を休止。2003年頃にはすでに運行していなかったようです。
施設は2020年に一度休業し、2021年に再開されましたが、2024年3月に再び休業。2025年4月時点では、レストラン部分が営業している様子も見られます。山頂駅跡は現在「恋人の聖地」として整備されており、リフトカーや軌道跡も部分的に確認できます。また、周辺には廃滑り台や遊具も残されています。

岐阜市の水道山にはむかーしむかし、ロマンスリフトなる乗り物があって、粕森公園からプラネタリウム遊園地まで行けたのです。
わずかながら遺構が残ってるらしいです。
ロマンだ。
以前、足摺テルメに宿泊したことがあり、その際にこのリフトカー跡を見つけて何なんだろうとずっと気になっていました。
施設自体はいいところだったのですが休業してしまったのですね、残念・・・
足場も悪いし、かなりの斜面林、マダニやヘビ蜂など様々な脅威がいそう 怖

I think that would have been fantastic fun going up in the lift car and then sliding back down the chute to get to the bottom. Such a shame it isn't still in operation.
屋島は香川にあったケーブルカーを思い出し懐かしいです。
麓の乗降場所にはまだ車両が残っていて、一人で修復作業をしている方がおられるとか。

Was the lift car a funicular or an aerial ropeway?
A friend once told me that Japanese cities are very clean but that they leave many abandoned buildings and a lot of trash in the forests.
I didn't believe him until I started seeing these kinds of channels.
