Can I print photo on Washi paper?
遠野和紙に写真を印刷したらどうなるか？
前回の和紙のドキュメンタリーの続き。今回はその紙に写真を印刷出来るのか？どんな仕上がりになるのでしょうか？前回の動画をまだ見ていない人は、こちらから見れます。
遠野和紙とは、福島県いわき市の遠野町にある伝統工芸です。一度途絶えてしまった伝統を守ろうと奮闘するのは、神奈川県から地域おこし協力隊として遠野へ引っ越してきた夫婦と、ニュージーランド人の女性シルビア。
私の個人プロジェクトである、三島とニュープリマスを写真で繋ぐ姉妹都市プロジェクトでは、この遠野和紙を印刷紙として使用し、日本またニュージーランドの方々に見ていただく予定です。
ニュープリマスに住んでいた頃、いつもお世話になっていたサンタクロースことDerek。彼自身も元々写真家で、今は印刷屋として地元写真家を中心とした様々なアーティストのサポートを行なっています。
彼に和紙を持って見せた所、紙の美しさに偉く感動し、早速テストプリントを刷ってくれました。
この紙に印刷した写真は、三島とニュープリマスの姉妹都市写真展にてご覧頂けます。

I went to ask my friend Derek if he can print my photographs on a Washi paper.

The result was absolutely beautiful. It is a great collaboration of two different types of artworks.I am going to showcase these works at a sister city exhibition in New Plymouth, New Zealand in 2021.
