東京での最高の初日 | 東京スカイツリー、浅草寺、秋葉原のゲームセンター、チームラボ

Hey, everyone. I’m Mark from Travelshorts.
That’s my daughter Holly. That’s my son, Matthew. And today is the eighth
day of our epic Japan trip. We’ve just arrived into Tokyo
on the Shinkansen bullet train. We’ve dropped our bags off in the hotel,
and now we’re going to explore Tokyo and try and see as many
things as we possibly can. So we are a little bit hungry,
so we’re going to stop off for something to eat because we’ve been on the train
for a couple of hours, and before then, we just had some breakfast. We’ve got tickets for the Tokyo Skytree
in about an hour’s time, so we’re going to walk towards that. We’re currently in the Asakusa area. We’re staying in the Asakusa View Hotel,
which is behind us there, where we just dropped our bags. Along the way to the Tokyo Sky Tree,
any restaurants or cafés that take our fancy, we’ll go in and we’ll
get something to eat. I guess once we pass all these buildings
here, we’ll get a great view of the Tokyo Sky Tree as well. Now, I’m going to be the first to admit,
it’s not the best day for going up to Tokyo Sky Tree. It’s raining, there’s clouds everywhere,
so the view is going to be absolutely terrible. But we’re only in the Tokyo area here
before we move on to Tokyo Disneyland for two days. So I pre-booked our tickets for the Sky
Tree a few weeks ago, keeping my fingers crossed
that the weather was going to be okay, but it doesn’t look like it is. So along the way, we’re going to walk past
Sensoji Temple, which is the largest temple complex like this in Tokyo. It’s on the route the SkyTree,
so that’s obviously where we’re going to stop in, but it is a major
tourist attraction in itself. This is where you can pay ¥100 to get your fortune on that stick. This is the main part of Sensoji temple. What, what I would call papermashay
a Chinese lantern, but I know that’s not what it is. It’s not what it looked like, though. This is where everybody comes
to get their photograph. It’s the most photographed thing
in this temple complex. But we’ve quickly seen it. Now we’ve got to keep going
to Tokyo Skytree because we do have a time to entry ticket. Well, that was a really quick
tour around Sensoji Temple. We will come back here again another time
to do a full tour around the place because it is right next to our hotel. But like I said, we do have a timed entry
with the Sky Tree, with the Tokyo sky tree,
which I’ll show you this. Can you see it there in the clouds above that building? I think that’s going to be our view
of the clouds when we get in there. But our timed entry is between
2:00 and 2:30 this afternoon. It’s currently half one. I would really like to get something
to eat quickly before we go in. So we’ll see. Here’s another view
of the Tokyo Sky Tower here. Again, Lots of cloud, although
it is breaking up a little bit. You see the top section now, ish. It is starting to rain a bit heavier now,
so Matthew’s got his waterproof on. Holly’s had it on for a while. I’m still wearing my T-shirt because even
though it’s overcast and it’s raining, it’s still pretty warm. It’s about 22, 23 degrees today. So I’m just going to brave it
in a T-shirt, at least for now, unless it comes down really heavily,
then I will put my waterproof coat on. So we’re now walking across
the Sumida River over on this bridge. It is starting to clear a little bit,
so we might get to see some of Tokyo from the top of the tower. I don’t think we get
to see a lot of it, though. And on clear days, you can
even see Mount Fuji from here. But I really don’t think
that’s going to happen today. So here’s the Sumida River that runs through Tokyo. It’s coming down a lot heavier now.
So I bit the bullet. I’ve put my waterproof jacket on. We’ve stopped looking for places to eat. We’re going to head straight
to the Tokyo SkyTree. And have a look if they got any
restaurants or cafés in there. So we’re getting close to it now. Can’t even see the top anymore. It’s surrounded by the clouds. We’ve just spotted a McDonald’s right
in front of us here, which I know it’s not authentic Japanese cuisine,
but it’s quick, convenient. So we’re going to go in there,
grab some lunch before we go up on the observation deck. And there’s McDonald’s. Which is lemon, pepper, egg, teriyaki. Potato, teriyaki, and chicken. Do you want any of those or just regular? All those teriyaki ones aren’t here. Teriyaki, four cheese. Do you want to see any of those? I’m going to have a
four cheese teriyaki, I think. I’ll make that a meal. I want fries, large fries. Now, I think I’ll get Fanta Grape
and a grand. A peach smoothie. Or mango smoothie. Okay, Holly wants a mango smoothie.
Add to order. Shall we get a box
of five Macrons as well? Yeah.
Okay, so is that everything? You’ve got one McFlurry, yeah? I didn’t get a McFlurry,
so I’ll get one as well. Table Service, and we’re number 40. We have come to McDonald’s,
there’s absolutely nowhere to sit, though. We’ve ordered it to our table
by using the thing here. Luckily, Matthew and Holly have got
somewhere to sit in this little corridor here, but I’ll just have
to stand and eat behind them. I did want to do a video on this trip
about the differences between our McDonald’s and their McDonald’s. That will probably have to wait
for another date because I don’t think we’re going to be able to do it
in this particular McDonald’s. I’m going to be standing behind Matthew
and Holly trying to eat my lunch. This isn’t the most comfortable
place to eat a burger. So we finished that McDonald’s. I have to admit that I’m really,
really uncomfortable eating standing up behind Matthew and Holly. We’re at the Tokyo Sky tree. Just got to guess go up in the lift to the top? There our tickets. Let’s go to the top of the sky tree. Look at the view. So we’ve made it to the
350th floor here on the Tokyo sky tree. You can see for miles and miles. Really, you can.
Do you want to see the view? It’s actually better than I
expected it to be, to be honest. Can’t see very far,
but we made it to almost the top, Holly. So we just spotted our hotel. It is that building right by there. What I think we’re going to do here
on the 350th floor is do a complete loop around,
and then we’re going up to the 450th floor using that elevator behind me there. To do that, you have to have a double
ticket, so a 350 and a 450 floor ticket. If you’re interested, today I
Purchase this ticket via trip.com It was the cheapest one available when I
searched all the regular websites like Klook, Trip, Get your Guide, even
the actual Tokyo SkyTree official website. If you are interested in purchasing these
tickets or geting more information on the trip.com website. I’ll leave a link in the description down
below, or you can scan that QR code there and go directly to the
Tokyo SkyTree page on trip.com. And trip.com do offer cancellations as well,
but it has to be 24 hours in advance. So obviously, if I want to cancel this
today because of the weather I would have needed to cancel it yesterday. But we’re only in this part of Tokyo for two days, so I had no real option.
We had to come today. I’ll loop around the 350th floor. We’re now going to go
up to the 450th floor. On a clear day. In that direction is Mount Fuji. We’re almost at the highest point, 451.2
metres just over this way. But Holly, we’re 451.2 metres high. Nice photo. Tokyo Disney Resort is that way. Over that direction is Tokyo Disneyland. Looking straight down, that must be the
350th floor below us by there and their observation deck. We’re now at the very highest point.
It’s 451.2 metres high. We’re at the highest point. We can’t get any higher now. No, maybe if you jump on me.
Oh, yeah. If you jump, We’re going
to get a bit higher. You’ll stand on now on the jump. Yeah, but we are 451.2 metres high. They just gave us a souvenir, 13th floor. I got 15.
I got a. How we all got the different ones. Just got a stamp for the sky tower. Matthew has just pointed out
that that helicopter has got an R on it. I’ve always assumed that all
helicopter pads is a H. They do have a very small
section of the glass floor here. I’ll be completely honest,
it’s not even half as big as the one in Blackpool Tower back home,
but it is pretty high. So me and Holly and Matthew have just
walked across it and taken a couple of photographs. Do you think we should go back down?
Yeah. Do you want to go back down, Holly? Yeah. Not really.
You want to stay a little bit longer? A bit.
A bit longer. So we’ve been here for an hour. I can’t believe we’ve been here an hour. So it’s time to head down. We’re next going to go to Akihabara,
the electric town here in Tokyo. It’s going to be arcades,
and claw machines. But first, we’re just going to call back
our hotel because we can now check in to our room officially. I dropped some things off from my
backpack here because it’s pretty heavy. Then we’ll head over to Akihabara.
It is right. It is it.
Once you get help, you can be in. Talk with a section.
Thank you. Do you like it?
Up here Holly. Yeah. I forgot to mention on the way up, my ears popped about three or four times,
and I did the same then coming down, it popped about three or four times.
What about you? Same?
Mine didn’t it didn’t pop, though. I felt the pressure.
Okay. That was it, the Tokyo sky tree. Really good place to go, especially if
it was a sunny day, and we could have seen Mount Fuji. But unfortunately,
that wasn’t going to happen today. And like I said, today,
I booked our tickets via trip.com. There’ll be a link in the
description down below. And just one last time,
there’s a QR code on the screen there. You go to their website
to look at these tickets. And it wouldn’t be a tourist attraction
if you didn’t come out in the gift shop. You okay now, Holly?
Yeah. That’s where we were, right the very top. Its kind of cold. It’s not cold.
It’s just windy. Now, I’m not going to lie,
it’s pretty windy at the moment. I think what we’re going to do rather than
walking the 30 minutes back to the hotel, we just had a look on Google Maps,
and there is a bus there, but the instructions for that, even
on Google Maps, they’re all in Japanese. It didn’t have a bus number on. It just had a lot of Kanji symbols,
including the bus stop and the bus stop where we get off. So I don’t really want to risk that. So we might try and get ourselves
a taxi back to the hotel. It should only be about a five minute
drive, so it shouldn’t cost too much. And it’ll save us 30 minutes walking. So we decided to just get
an Uber to go back to the hotel. Like I said, it’s a 30 minute walk,
but it should just be a five-minute journey in the car. This is coming to just over a ¥1000. About £5. He will be here in three minutes. That’s the guy there. In a black Toyota Alphard, 310.
Okay. Okay, we’ve just got our keys
from reception because its after three o’clock now, so we were able to pick them up. Here’s a quick room tour of our
room here at the Asakusa View Hotel. We’re in 1823. It’s a sky tower view room as well,
so I’m really excited about that. Let’s go into the room now. It’s quite a spacious room as well. But I’ll start doing
a tour of this area first. So there’s just a big area by the door
here where we’re going to leave our cases. We’ve then got a double full length
mirror there with the wardrobe inside. So there we go. Extra bedding up there if it
gets a bit too cold at night. And then lots of coat hangers,
an extra pillow here, Holly, if you want an extra pillow. Some slippers and a shoehorn. In fact, Holly’s taking
the extra pillow now. This first room here is the bath
and shower and the sink. There we go. We’ve got A lot of amenities
in there as well. Foaming soap. Then we’ve got some shampoo,
conditioner and body wash there. Lots of towels. And in the room next to it is the toilet. And obviously it’s a Japanese toilet,
so it’s got that bidet function there. Now this is a family room,
so we have got three single beds. There’s Matthew on the middle
So three beds. Quite a large room as well,
especially for Japan. This is a pretty big room,
especially with a window, like the bay window that goes out there. But before we even get over there,
let’s see what we’ve got on the desk area. Got three complementary bottles of water,
some tea and coffee, kettle, cups and glasses in that cupboard there. We’ve got a refrigerator there. In this drawer, we’ve got a laundry bag and a laundry
service list, the prices for the laundry. We’ve got some robes in that drawer. And then in this one,
we have got the safe. Then we’ve got the desk. What’s the draw there? Tv guide in there. Another mirror there. Hair dryer. We’ve got a selection of chargers
and some tissue. We’ve got a sofa. I think if we wanted four people in this
room, that converts to a sofa bed. And we’re on the 18th floor,
and I paid for a sky tree view room. There’s my friend Holly looking
at the view on that desk. And that’s our view. There’s the Tokyo Sky tree
where we were a few minutes ago. And this is an amazing view. You can see the Sensoji Temple as
well right in front of us there. Really great location. It’s right next to the Asakusa
train station or subway station. I think we’re really happy with this room. If you’re interested, we
booked this from trip.com. When I search all the usual websites
to look for a hotel, I really wanted to stay here
because of the view and the area. So I checked trip.com, hotels.com, booking.com, Agoda, and Expedia, and trip.com came out the cheapest
out of all those. So that’s why I booked that. In fact, this whole trip,
except for the Disney hotels, which are coming up later, I booked via trip.com because they offered the best value. And if you are interested
in this hotel via trip.com I’ll leave a link
in the description down below. Or also I’ll put a QR code on the screen
here where you can click that or scan on that, I should say, and go directly
to the Asakusa View hotel page on trip.com. Anyway, I think we’re going to relax
for a little bit and then continue exploring Tokyo shortly. So We spent about 20 minutes in the room. We’re now going to head out,
get on the subway and go to Akihabara, where we’re going to enjoy some fun
on some arcade games, Claw games. And let’s keep our fingers crossed
that we’re going to win something. Okay, let’s go down, Holly.
Ground floor. So we’re walking to a Asakusa train
station or subway station, I should say. Just a two-minute walk from our hotel. We’ll be there shortly. It’s still raining
a little bit more spitting. It has said on my app that it is going
to dry up in the next hour or so. So that’s why we haven’t got
our waterproofs on anymore. Trying to pack a light to go to Akihabara. Matthew and Holly have
just got their hoodies on. I’m still in a T-shirt because
it’s still pretty warm. We’ve just topped up our IC cars
because they were running low. We’re now going to take
the subway to Akihabara Station. We should be there
in less than five minutes. We’ve arrived at Akihabara. We’re now going to look and walk around
and try and find some arcades, some gachapong, and some
claw games to play on. There’s the Gigo building,
which is where we’re going now. I think it’s five or six floors full of
arcades, claw games, Gacha Pong, all that. It used to be the Sega building. It’s just a shame that it’s not
the Sega building any longer. Okay, so this is what we got. That was the first arcade we’ve been in.
I think I made a mistake. That didn’t used to be the SEGA building. I’m getting a bit confused. There were seven floors. They were quite small floors, though,
and didn’t really have arcade games that we recognise. Some were just card games. You get the traditional things like
beating on a drum and things, but we didn’t really like
any games to go on in there. And there was also no filming as well. So we’re going to keep walking down
the road seeing what else we come to. So we’re going to try this one now. This one looks a bit better We got Mario Kart, Arcade, Retro Games. Next one, Holly. Is that Minecraft? I’m you want to go on that.
Why not. You are doing really well. So we’ve finished in that arcade.
That was a lot of fun. We spent an hour in there in total. Holly is not a big arcade fan, are you? But you still did really good
on the driving game, didn’t you? Not bad. What we’re going to do now,
we’re going to head back to Akihabara Station,
go on another subway over to TeamLab Borderless, which is where we’re
going to be spending the evening. We pre-booked our tickets. We just need to be there for 7:30 or even
a few minutes before 7:30, because that’s when we need to enter the building. I
think this building here might be the old Sega building, not the previous
Geico one I mentioned earlier. But we haven’t got enough time now
because we got to go to TeamLabs. Maybe we will come back here tomorrow. Oh its busy. A lot of people are getting off, though. Holly, do you know what
this train is called? Hibeia train.
It’s on the Hibeia Line. I don’t know what Hibia. How many stops are we got to go?
Eleven. Pardon?
Eleven. Eleven.
Ten now. Ten. Yeah, I will be on it
for about 20 minutes. So we’ve arrived at the station,
just left the station building. We’re now walking the three minutes
to the Mori building, which is where TeamLab Borderless is situated. The reason I brought them to TeamLab
Borderless, I went to a TeamLabs in Macao a couple a couple of years ago,
TeamLab Supernature. And it was really, really interesting. Very colourful. It’s a digital art installation
where things change around you as you move and you interact with
the environment around you. So I wanted Matthew
and Holly to experience it. And I think it’s just over by here. So for tickets to Teamlab
Borderless today. I purchased them through Klook. When I searched online,
Klook was the most cost-effective, cheapest ones I could find. I’ll leave a link in the description down
below where you can book them or you can scan the QR code on the screen here. And if you use my referral ID
of TravelShortsKlook on there, you’ll get 5% off your first purchase. Anyway, I think we’re going to go
into the building now and take a look around and see what TeamLabs
Borderless is all about. So we put our bags in our locker,
and now we’re going to go and head into the attraction. So although it said it was called 7:30
people in, and our tickets are for 7:30 We’re apparently the wrong 7:30. That’s the early 7:30. We’re the late 7:30. So I would say 7:30 till 8:00. That was 7:00 till 7:30. Although I think it just said 7:30,
so it should have been there. It makes no difference
because we’re a bit thirsty. So we just come outside,
we get ourselves a drink from the 7 Eleven, which is right across the road there. I can get a little snack as well. So there’s two different types of 7:30,
bear that in mind. Okay, so Matthew is going
to have a salmon onigiri. I might as well go
for a tuna onigiri then. We’ve just got our snacks from 7-Eleven,
something really quick to eat. Me an Matthew have gone for onigiri. I’ve gone for tuna mayonnaise. He’s gone for salmon and Holly’s gone
for a sausage on a stick as well as some water. Okay, we’re back at Team Labs
for the correct 7: 30 now. Not the incorrect 7: 30. You want to slide down it? You want to touch those? No. The big one coming down there He is looking at you. I think you’re enjoying yourself Holly. I am Yeah? I like the frogs Now, that LED light room that we were just in, I think, is a staple of all team labs around the world. The one I went to in Macao a couple
of years ago had exactly the same thing. And to me, that’s probably my favourite
room in the whole art installation. Lets stay together, Matthew. It looks like you feel like you’re moving. This room makes you feel dizzy because it’s just spinning around in the movement. It makes you disorientated. This is the one that you draw in. This is the one where you draw
and then the fish come on here. Okay, so now we’re going to
crayon and colour in these turtle. What’s that?
Octopus or a jellyfish? A jellyfish.
And Matthew’s got a fish. Then it’ll appear on that screen outside. I’d pull on some photo, Joe. There’s mine. Owens the jellyfish. You want to show me yours, Matthew? That’s very good. Better than yours.
What do you mean? There’s nothing wrong with mine. It’s like a pop tart
it’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with mine either.
Is that done? Is it finished now?
Oh, no, you got to do it’s head. It’s all right, it’s head.
What? It looks like a pop tart. Thank you. Thank you..
Arigato Simas There you go. Great.
Matthew Wales. And there’s mine. Where’s yours? Where is it? Where’s yours?
Oh, there. It’s coming back. Is it? We ran out of time. No, it’s coming back. There’s Holly’s. It moved. When you go near, did it?
Oh, no. Yeah. It might be closing in 15 minutes, and I don’t think we’ve done half of it. Okay, let’s go. It’s dead on nine o’clock. The people that work here now
usher us in one direction. We need to leave.
The place is closing. We’ve been here for an hour and a half,
and I’ll be completely honest with you, I think we could have at least another
30 minutes, maybe even an hour. Ours was the last ticket of the day,
7:30, but I would definitely recommend coming before then,
although it has been quite quiet. So there might be a payoff coming later
in the day, at the end of the day, because it’s a lot quieter. So that was us, finished
in TeamLab Borderless. Really recommend that place,
even if you’re not an Instagrammer, which we’re not,
we just like taking videos and we just like experiencing things in reality
rather than watching it through a lens. Anyway, we’re at the train
station or subway station. We’re going to go on a Hebeya Line
for about 20 minutes, do a change, then head to our hotel. And if you are interested in these
TeamLabs art exhibits, there’s another one in Tokyo called TeamLab Planets. I almost got tickets for it for tomorrow,
but I decided maybe two TeamLabs in a row. Matthew and Holly wouldn’t like it,
but now I begining to regret it because they both want to go to TeamLabs Planets. I’m going to check when we go back
to the hotel room if there’s any tickets available for tomorrow evening,
but I’m pretty much sure that they won’t be When I look,
about a month ago, when I booked this whole holiday,
both TeamLab Borderless and TeamLab Planets had very restricted
ticket availability. So I think my chances of getting some
for tomorrow night are very slim. So I’ve just quickly looked on Klook just
to see if they do have any availability for TeamLab Planets for tomorrow. Today is the 31st of May. The next available time slot is
on the 18th of June, so no chance to go in tomorrow. I’ve just been looking on Get your guide
as well to see where their ticket availability is for TeamLabs Planets.
They’re the same. The next available ticket is on June 17.
And on trip.com they don’t have individual tickets
available for TeamLabs Planets for tomorrow,
but you can buy a combination ticket. So a TeamLabs Planets ticket
with a Skytree Observation Deck ticket, and that’s £33.48 which we have been to the Skytree
today, obviously, so I wouldn’t get that ticket because it’d be a bit of a waste. But there are options out there,
especially on trip.com. If you have a look,
they’re available tomorrow. So you can get tickets on trip.com at really short notice,
even if you do have to combine it with another attraction. But if you want to go to the Skytree
as well, that’d be a great option. So we’ve arrived at Mini Mi Senju Station. I know I’m pronouncing
that terribly wrong. We are going on the Tsukuba Express for one more stop,
and I’ll take us to Asakusa station, and that’s where our hotel is. And again, the end of a very long day,
started in Kyoto this morning. We need to just get some more
food before we head back. Oh, down here.
Down these steps here. Before we head back to our hotel,
and then we’re going to go to sleep. That was good timing.
We just arrived as a train arrived. You two can sit there and we got it almost to ourselves. It’s a shame we’re only
on here for one stop. Well, we’re back in the hotel. We’re ready for bed. It’s been a really long day from starting
in Kyoto first thing this morning, so I think we’re going
to end this episode here. If you made it to the end,
thank you so much for watching. It’s really appreciated. If you’re new here, my name is Mark, along

At Tokyo SkyTree we go to the top and have a great view of Tokyo, despite the rain.

We then go to Akihabara the centre of Japanese otaku culture, its is a major shopping district for video games, anime, manga and electronics. We spend a couple of hours in the arcades.

To finish the day we go to TeamLabs Borderless, a digital interactive art exhibit that was one of the highlights of our trip.
