【神秘•絶景】絶対に見るべき「大阪の穴場10選」
This is a special feature on hidden gems in Osaka, requested by our viewers. We’ve compiled some of the most popular videos from past videos. Shippo-ryu-ji Temple, located on Mount Inunaki in Izumisano City, Osaka. Mount Inunaki, founded by En no Gyoja, the founder of Shugendo, is Japan’s oldest Shugendo training center and sacred mountain. It features the largest bronze statue of Acala in Japan. A power spot with large and small waterfalls nestled in a primeval forest. From the main hall, we head to Gyoja Falls, a place for ascetic practices. The waterfall flows from the mountain trees and the vibrant Kiyotaki Hall is a truly mystical and beautiful sight. Once you reach the base of the waterfall, it feels as cool as a natural air conditioner. The public can also experience one-day ascetic practices, including waterfall training. These chains are used to brace oneself during waterfall training. Katano City is the birthplace of the Japanese Tanabata legend. Tanabata Stone, said to have fallen from the sky, is enshrined here as a sacred object. The main hall is located at the summit of Mt. Myoken, 162 meters above sea level. Legend has it that long ago, while Kobo Daishi Kukai was practicing asceticism here, the Big Dipper split into three pieces and fell to the ground. Pray to your guardian star. The view is excellent. Lift the stone once, make a wish, and then lift it again. If it’s lighter the second time, your wish will come true. Behind the main hall, the Tanabata Stone (Weaver Stone) is enshrined as a sacred object. Acala and Climbing Dragon Falls. The waterfall has been blocked by housing development. The path continues around the boulder. The footing is quite unstable, as seen through chains. There is a stainless steel shrine. Since I could only see trees, this view really brings home the high altitude. Beyond this is my destination: Kannon Rock. The panoramic view of the Osaka Plain is breathtaking. Viewed from the other side, its presence is overwhelming. This huge rock is 40 meters in circumference and 20 meters high. What is that square hole? I’m very curious. I climb to the top of the rock. What do you think of this view? Mt. Katano is 341 meters above sea level. Abeno Harukas, visible in the distance, is about 300 meters high. We’re almost at the same eye level. It feels mysterious. I heard rumors about a shrine with a beautiful daffodil field, so I arrived early in the morning. I thought I saw a black object moving in the parking lot, but it turned out to be a rare chicken. It’s a “long-crowing rooster,” a messenger of the gods. There’s a sacred rope hanging from its shed. A normal rooster crows for 1-2 seconds, but some long-crowing roosters can last up to 25 seconds. Perhaps they’re just waking up, because they’re not crowing much right now. Let’s go to the daffodil field. If the timing is right, the plum blossoms and daffodils will be in full bloom. It seems a little early for the best viewing. (February 8, 2025) You can see the entire Osaka Plain. A large camphor tree stands behind the torii gate. A long-crowing rooster makes its presence felt. The Jusan-kaido Highway, which starts in Tamatsukuri, Osaka City, runs north of the shrine and connects to Tamazukuri. The two place names suggest a connection. This shrine has so much to offer. The waterfall in the distance felt truly special. It’s Tamamitsunotaki (Tamamitsutaki). The tree trunk rises from the ground like a living creature. Behind it is a sacred waterfall, like a white dragon ascending to heaven. It’s rare to see such an ancient townscape preserved in Osaka. Located just 400 meters from Tondabayashi Station, it’s easily accessible by public transportation. Jinaimachi is a religious autonomous city where the entire town is considered the temple grounds and where believers live together. Jinaimachi stretches 400 meters east to west and 350 meters north to south. Valuable traces of the past still remain. There are some impressive old houses to see, so I’d like to visit. One of the oldest townhouses in the temple town. The former Sugiyama Residence, an Important Cultural Property, is listed as a 400 yen admission fee. It features magnificent sliding doors. The most luxurious alcove I’ve ever seen. It’s simply stunning. The Japanese garden is incredible. There are various shops to explore, making it a fun experience. I found a beer hall I’m interested in. But I’ll have to go there next time since I’m driving. The imposing giant camphor tree is located in a house in Mitsujima, Kadoma City. The power you feel the moment you pass through the torii gate. Its vitality is almost divine. The branches of this giant camphor tree, likely over 1,000 years old, cover the entire temple grounds. It’s like a camphor ceiling. This giant camphor tree, known as the Kungaisho, is one of the “100 Best Greens of Osaka,” and apparently received the most votes in the poll to select the top 100. It’s approximately 30 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 13 meters. At the base of the camphor tree stands a monument bearing a poem by Chigusa Arifumi, who was active alongside Iwakura Tomomi and others during the late Edo period. This shrine quietly stands upstream of the Milky Way in Katano City. The shrine enshrines the “Heavenly Rock Boat.” A huge rock covering the main hall is visible, reaching a height of 12 meters. A cave lies deep within. As a site of Shugendo (mountaineering asceticism) since ancient times, the cave has a very solemn atmosphere. Anyone can tour the cave, but two or more people are required. It is a place where caution is required, as accidents have occurred. This is the symbol of the Osaka Expo. This artwork, created by artist Taro Okamoto, was completed in 2018 with seismic reinforcement, making the interior accessible for tours. The restored “Underground Sun” is an energetic interior, featuring the 41-meter-tall “Tree of Life.” It houses 292 biological models. You can enjoy the lingering echoes of the 1970 World Expo. It is in no way inferior to the current pavilions. Surprisingly, many people living in Osaka have never seen the inside. It feels as though you are directly experiencing the energy of the period of rapid economic growth. Katsuo-ji Temple is known nationwide as the “Temple of the Winning Daruma.” It is also famous for its autumn foliage, allowing you to pray for good luck and enjoy the spectacular autumn scenery at the same time. The sight of the entire temple grounds dyed a deep red is a breathtaking sight. The rows of daruma dolls, large and small, line the grounds, dazzling visitors. In autumn, the entire temple grounds are lit up at sunset, creating a truly mystical landscape. The approximately 26,000-square-meter grounds are bathed in shades of red, green, and yellow, transporting you to another world. The illuminations are usually held from mid-November to early December. This farm is about twice the size of Koshien Stadium. Enjoy farm cuisine and a variety of experiences. Fresh farm cuisine, made using the bounty of nature, is circulated within the grounds. A meal is required to enter the park. You can enjoy fresh dishes such as farm-raised local chicken hotpot. The vegetables are delicious. In addition to local chicken, they also serve beef sukiyaki. You can experience the blessings of nature, from the farm itself to the sale of processed products and hands-on activities. You can also interact with animals, and try feeding them. Depending on the season, you can pick rare “gumi” fruits. They are rich in lycopene and are said to be good for your skin. As you ‘d expect from a farming town, the farm atmosphere is recommended. It’s a facility rich in nature that you wouldn’t expect to find in Osaka. What did you think of our top 10 hidden gems in Osaka? They may not be hidden gems for Osaka residents.
