The Fire-Walking Ritual, held annually on the first Saturday of September at Futakuchi Kumano Shrine in Futakuchi, Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture, is one of the few traditional events in the prefecture.
The ritual involves circling the homes of parishioners and collecting impurities. The ritual then burns them away by jumping into flames up to two meters high, offering prayers for good health and safety.
The sight of the powerful procession through the raging flames is truly breathtaking. Experience this brave and mystical traditional Japanese event.
