【北海道】いつもとは違ったノマドワーク車中泊の旅、北見市へ出発し新たな仕事に不安と期待、ホテル泊と車中泊の二重生活をしながらキャンピングカーで愛犬と旅をするアラフィフ夫婦のバンライフ。
August 1, 2025. A week has passed since we returned from our last trip. My family is preparing for a trip to Soshinmei to work. This trip is a little different from usual. Osa’s company has arranged for a room in a business hotel. So, for this trip, Osa will be living a double life, sleeping in her car and staying in a hotel. She works at a fruit sorting facility in Kitami City, working on the premises with a forklift, etc. Kitami City. She has a work orientation this afternoon. She traveled in the morning to give herself plenty of time. Since she has time, she’s having coffee. Osa starts work tomorrow. She ‘ll have to wait until the weekend for coffee. Today’s coffee companion is “Kibana,” a specialty Asahikawa confectionery given to us by a viewer. Kitami City is a major producer of peppermint and is also the number one producer of onions in Japan. There used to be a spring here, though. After a long rest, it’s time to head out. Corgi Travel, Van Life with Corgis. Osa, Mama-chan, and Kotaro. This is her longest working trip yet, planned for five months. We went to a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant called Tritonya. Kitami City is also famous for its yakiniku (grilled meat). I’m looking forward to many things during my stay. Since I still have time, I headed to a spot with a panoramic view of Kitami City. South Hills Campground. It seems to be quite popular as it offers a great night view. It’s time to head to the meeting point, but it’s so large I can’t tell which building is the office. I thought it would be a job information session and would be over in 2-3 hours, but it’s still over after 3 hours. It’s 5:30 PM. Before work starts, I have three days of forklift training and safety training. There’s an exam on the last day that I need to pass to get the job. Many people have come from all over Japan to work here. Tonight’s dinner. The party begins. It ended unexpectedly late, so today’s dinner is a Big Mac and Kentucky Fried Chicken. My family loves Big Macs. There were no McDonald’s in Kutchan, Higashikawa, Kamifurano, or Shibetsu. It’s nice to have McDonald’s again after a long time. Freshly fried fries are the best. I’m taking a course and exam for my migrant work. Osa is confused by this new experience, but she’ll figure it out. It’s a melon from a friend in Kutchan. It’s a gift from Nobuta, the producer of Raiden melons, and her friend Ueno in Kutchan. Thank you. I ate it later, when it was ripe. It was the most delicious melon. Tomorrow, the training and exam start. Since it’s considered work, I’ll still be paid. I start work at 8:30 tomorrow, though. I’ll enjoy a few more drinks tonight. August 7, 2025. Playing with Kotaro in the park before work has become a daily routine. Osa goes to work. Her workplace is a fruit sorting facility in the Hatono district of Kitami City. It’s been a few days since she started work, and she’s starting to get used to the workplace. Her commute is about 10 minutes. JA Kitamirai Hatono District Fruit Sorting Facility. She follows the instructions of the on-site manager and performs a variety of tasks. As usual, I waited with Kotaro at a nearby park. JA Kitamirai Hanno District Fruit Sorting Facility. Tonden-no-Mori Park. Tonden-no-Mori Park. Editing work in the morning. Kotaro took a nap. I headed to Osa’s workplace just in time for lunch. Lunch break from 12:00 to 13:00. Lunch was instant ramen, Osa’s favorite. The hotel provided by the company included breakfast. In the morning, we had a buffet breakfast at the hotel. We returned to the park and Kotaro took a walk. In the evening, we took a bath in a nearby hot spring. Tonden-no-Mori Park. Hanno Onsen Nontanoyu. Osa was using the hotel. It was nice that the bathing fee was just for one person. Hanno Onsen Nontanoyu. Bathing fee: 500 yen for adults, the water was nice. Osa returned home. Dinner preparations. Silver flounder carpaccio. Sasa pork spare ribs bought on the previous trip. Grilled liver at Osa’s request. Dinner is ready. I topped Kotaro with liver as well. Good work. Kitami City is a familiar town that I’ve visited for shopping and other purposes. But it’s a completely different place to live. Kitami City is a town of yakiniku. You can expect delicious food there too. The nomadic work journey continues tomorrow. Preview of the next episode. 美幌峠でお会いした後、道の駅おんねゆ温泉に行ってたくさん網に入ってる玉ねぎを400円で買いました🧅さすが玉ねぎ産地日本一の北見ですね😌
