【真実】日本人がほぼ知らない街全体が中国化してしまったバンコクのとあるエリアを深掘りします。

Located northeast of the center of Mankoku, White has a population of approximately 85,000. Known as a downtown area of Thailand, White is known for its down-to-earth, local atmosphere. However, in recent years, White has been attracting attention as an area experiencing rapid Chinese influence. With the rise of Chinese signs at the top and Chinese-owned businesses, the presence of Chinese culture is growing significantly, leading locals to jokingly refer to it as Mankoku’s second Chinatown, or even another part of China. In recent years, the number of rapidly Chinese-influenced towns has increased in Asia, including in Japan, and this has become a topic of frequent discussion as a social issue for local residents and the country. This time, I visited Huai Kwang, a town in Mankoku that has been transformed by the rapid development of Chinese painting. Please stay tuned. Today is August 16, 2025. I am currently on Bang Koyarat Road in Thailand. I’m in what’s known as Bangkok’s Chinatown, and this area is quite popular with Japanese tourists, and it’s featured in guidebooks . It’s probably the number one Chinatown in Bangkok, and it’s become a tourist destination. I’ve been here many times, and I think I’ve eaten here and even made videos about it. I think it’s a place that many of you have been to. So, what I’m going to talk about today is not the famous Chinatown, but a town called the second Chinatown . It’s in a completely different place from Yawarat, and there are Chinese signs and shops like this, but the situation has been changing a bit recently, and there was a time when Chinese people were flocking to Bangkok. There have been a lot of issues recently, both in travel and business. Some of you may have seen it on the news , but the Chinese population is declining. Chinese businesses are incredibly agile. They’re quick to open new stores, so they increase in number, but as soon as they realize they’re not making a profit, they leave. This is a Chinatown with a long history, so it’s still like this, but this second Chinatown suddenly became a Chinatown, and over the past few years, it’s started to shrink again . I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a ghost town, but there are places that look like deserted shops, and you wonder why there are so many Chinese restaurants in places like that. It wasn’t originally a Chinatown, but a local area, a “white” neighborhood. I often go there, too . I often go out to eat local food there with friends and acquaintances who live there, and I thought I’d share this video that captures the mix of these places. Since I’m in the area now, I’ll walk around a bit and then head over there. It’s a direct subway ride on the Blue Line. Yes. That’s why I want to go that way. It’s Saturday, so I thought it might be crowded, so I went as early as possible. I’m here just before 9am, and it’s already as you’d expect from a Chinese restaurant. They have breakfast places open early . The area around here is still closed, but there are already quite a few people there. I think Japanese tourists probably have a pretty specific reason for coming to the mountains. There are delicious restaurants serving cheap, high-end Chinese ingredients like sea bass, abalone, and bird’s nest, and I’ve been there, so I think a lot of people come for that. Well, regular Chinese food, too. My main focus this time is this place, which isn’t really a restaurant, but it makes me want to walk around, so I thought I’d take a look. It’s the same all around here. The famous bird’s nest restaurant and the chat room are open from the morning, which is nice. Lots of people who love dining and travel come here, don’t they? Around here. These fried chicken look beautiful . It’s fried chicken. They’re already doing the massages. So quick. The other day, I went to a town called Xisapanna in Yunnan Province, China. It’s the roots of the Thai and Laotian peoples, and even though it’s in China, it really felt like Thailand. It’s an area where Chinese people gather, so maybe there are a lot of people similar to Xisapanna living there. It’s quite interesting to walk around thinking about things like that . I had breakfast here too. Oh, a noodle shop. Wow, that looks delicious . Sorry. This is a bit sudden, but it looked delicious. These noodles, like noodle soup, are made with rice. I’m a little hungry, so I’ll have some. I wonder how much they cost? I went in on a whim , but this looks like a nice, delicious place. I ordered the noodle soup and a black iced coffee. Well, that’s about all they have on the menu. Here it is . This is the noodle soup. It’s 60 baht. It’s topped with pork and squid . It was like noodles without soup. And a huge serving of iced black coffee . Well, it’s black, but it might be sweet. I haven’t tried it yet. Yes. So that ‘s 80 yen. Yes. Looks delicious. There was a decent amount. Thai black coffee. Wow, it was amazing. It’s not black at all. Let’s eat. It was like this. Oh, it ‘s that long-flour rice flour kind of thing with all that skin, like Kishi-shi. It’s like noodles. Yeah. It’s a taste that’s easy for Japanese people to eat. Well, I think it has a stronger flavor of oysters, but more than Chinese. I think in authentic Chinese restaurants, this kind of meat would probably all have a tangy flavor, but this didn’t. The regular soy sauce flavor was delicious. Yeah. It was a great breakfast. I’m pretty full. Now, let’s take the subway to, uh, the second Chinatown . Let’s get going by subway. By the way, kitty, kitty, we’ve arrived at MRT White. Exit 1 leads to a Chinese restaurant, near what’s known as the new Chinatown or second Chinatown. I’m outside. You can see it already. Even though this isn’t Chinatown, there are quite a few Chinese signs written in kanji. There are even more ahead. Of course, you can get to the restaurants and take a taxi or Grab, but the subway is a bit more convenient. The BTS and MRT take you to Sukhumvit Station, about four stops from there. Yes. It only takes about 10 minutes to get here. Some people might think it’s too far to go up the mountain, so depending on your accommodation, eating around here might save you time. Apparently , the food is pretty good, too. I haven’t eaten Chinese food around here yet. I’ve been to the usual large-volume restaurants a few times, but I’d like to explore the area a bit . For now, I’m heading toward the station and walking down the street in front of the station. There are plenty of options over there, too. I’d like to see both of those places too. Oh, this is also a Chinese gyoza restaurant. Everyone said the gyoza was delicious. I’d love to try some if I could. I’ve been to this street a few times . There’s a place we all go to, and we’re all good friends. This is a temple. It does have a bit of a Chinese feel to it. But the real action here is at night. Young girls who work in the so-called nightlife establishments say this area is amazing, it’s cheap. Rent is cheaper than in the city center. There are a lot of restaurants that cater to these girls , and clothes and accessories, too. Why are restaurants and dining places open so late around here? Right. I think people who are familiar with the area know this, but I think it’s quite well-known for its white-collar feel, especially among those who like to hang out . That’s the kind of town it is. However, it seems that Chinese migrant workers and people who start businesses are making money in places other than the soft streets mentioned earlier. So, what has been formed is what is being called a new Chinatown. Ah, there aren’t many things around here. Chinese restaurants. I often go to a place called White Terrace over there. It’s probably not visible on the left, but I’ve been there with friends and my staff . The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great, and it’s that music restaurant. This place is open in the evenings, the White Terrace I mentioned earlier . I’ve been here before, even during the pandemic . We often come here when we get together. I recommend it. It ‘s cheap food, but it’s delicious. And it’s cheap. Up ahead is the White Market , which sells all kinds of food and has a very local feel. But since I’m in a Chinese-inspired town, I’ll skip the market for now . There doesn’t seem to be much Chinese food up ahead, so let’s turn back and go down the opposite street. So , I’d like to go further in. This is the MRT we mentioned earlier. It’s like turning left after exiting Xiao Wah Station. I’d recommend this White Area for those who want to experience the local flavor of Taiwan. I think it’s featured by most travel enthusiasts and YouTubers who live in Taiwan and provide intimate information. But the typical YouTubers you see, who travel to various places and pick up the content they think people will like, probably don’t know about this place, or don’t visit it, so it probably doesn’t feature in their videos. It ‘s a bit disappointing. It’s starting to rain now. The weather’s bad today. What should I do? I could take shelter in a cafe for a bit. There are quite a few cafes , so I’ll think about it if it rains a bit more. This Oasis Cafe here is pretty good . I’ve been there before, and it’s open 24 hours. There aren’t that many, are there? 24-hour cafes in Taiwan. Oh, this is a Chinese restaurant, too. Please forgive the advert, even though it’s in the middle of the video. Here’s my usual promotion for NODVPN. Currently, NODVPN is running a campaign. If you sign up for a two-year plan or longer, use my channel’s coupon code via the dedicated link in this video’s description to receive a significant discount plus a four-month extension. Please take advantage of this opportunity to sign up. I promote NODVPN every month, and right now, I ‘m filming this video in Bangkok. When I’m in Bangkok, I almost always stay home and work, and at times like these, I can’t get any work done without the internet. I think most people feel the same way. Especially for those who travel abroad frequently, whether it’s for business trips or vacation, using NODVPN is extremely beneficial. I’m sure you all use free Wi-Fi when you’re out and about, enjoying the internet and exchanging data. However , especially overseas, at places like train stations, hotels, cafes, shopping malls, and airports , criminals have been stealing and misusing your personal information, including that of your customers . While not all Wi-Fi is dangerous , I think most people would never know that such information is embedded in their devices. Therefore, it’s important to be vigilant and take security measures . Connecting to such Wi-Fi using a node VPN can significantly reduce the risk of third parties stealing your information. It ‘s especially risky to allow access to devices that contain sensitive personal information, such as customer information, for free. While this is something that large companies generally tend to be aware of, it seems that many Japanese companies are still not paying enough attention to it. This is why it’s true that customer information has been leaked, and even personal information like bank accounts and passwords have been stolen, resulting in unfamiliar credit card payments . It’s also incredibly easy to access—with just one click, you can create a VPN connection without any complicated setup . It’s a key security measure for both businesses and individuals when connecting overseas, so I hope you’ll take advantage of it . As I mentioned at the beginning, Node VPN is currently running a promotion. If you sign up for a two-year plan or longer by using my channel’s coupon code via the dedicated link in the description of this video, you’ll receive a significant discount and a four-month extension . I hope you’ll consider this offer. Now, back to the main story. It suddenly starts to feel like Chinatown, so I wanted to check out what’s further ahead . Oh, but the shops are already here. They’re here early. Well, it’s about 10:30. This is also the Chinese restaurant I investigated. Investigation. Oh, that looks spicy crayfish, huh? The shop on the other side is that noodle shop. As I walk through the White District, I notice huge Chinese signs everywhere. There are Chinese restaurants, including authentic Chinese restaurants, malatang restaurants, and Shanghai-style skewer shops, as well as minimarts selling Chinese ingredients, supermarkets, Chinese massage parlors, Chinese language schools, herbal medicine clinics, and beauty clinics . Shops are decorated with Chinese-style red signs, and restaurant names and menus are displayed in large Chinese letters. While there are many signs for Southern specialty restaurants, the number of restaurants specializing in regional Chinese cuisine is on the rise. White began to undergo gradual changes around the mid-2010s , and around 2018, local media began reporting that it was becoming a new Chinatown, leading to the local community’s acceptance of the term “Wankuu’s second Chinatown.” Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the town has revitalized again since 2023 , with over 50 businesses still operating and maintaining its non-Chinese character . I heard from an acquaintance that this restaurant, “Chinese something”—I don’t know how to pronounce it, but they serve Tohoku cuisine, Yunnan cuisine, and I don’t know what “river cuisine” is , but they say it’s delicious. It hasn’t been open yet. I’d like to go there later. I’ll consider it. I just went to that place the other day , and Tohoku is known for its cuisine from the two provinces and the Kiri Prize. There’s a convenience store here, so I’ll buy an umbrella. Isn’t this great? They’re calling it the new Chinatown. Originally , there weren’t any Chinese restaurants or Chinese-style establishments in this area, but all of this opened up all at once . Well, it’s not that recent, though. I think it probably peaked about two years ago, but I hear it’s pretty much gone now. It seems like Chinese people are leaving because it’s not very profitable. Hotels like this, with Chinese in the language, are definitely geared towards Chinese people. I’m sure. The name is like this. Park Residence Ume Branch. It’s a completely Chinese massage parlor, isn’t it? The kind of place you often see in China that does ear cleaning. There are many Chinese businesses like this that operate independently, and White House has become a town that never sleeps. Brightly lit Chinese restaurants are open even late at night, Chinese food delivery is actively used in this area, and with the spread of payment methods like WeatPay and RIP, Chinese people are no longer relying on traditional Thai food. It’s been pointed out that people can live without relying on the system. Even in terms of language, Chinese is used on a daily basis, and many Chinese people do business without understanding the transliteration, giving the town the feel of a Chinese-speaking prefecture. It’s completely authentic Chinese. There are massage parlors, but they’re all Chinese. I’ve heard that in some cases, the Thai language isn’t even understood around here. It’s a bit unusual that the shopkeepers only speak Chinese. This place is also open 24 hours. Amazing. The ramen shop is open 24 hours. The new Chinatown stretches all the way up . It’s all Chinese. Amazing. Well, there are some parts that are a bit out of order, but it’s still pretty impressive. Some people say it’s vulgar to change the streetscape like this , and I agree, but it’s still amazing . There are crayfish and nabe restaurants here. They have all kinds of massages. I bet there’s even a marathon restaurant. It’s actually quite fun to walk around, it ‘s right after the subway and easy to find, so I recommend walking around here if you’re looking for a change of scenery. It’s a little early for dinner, and I just ate, so I thought I’d go for a massage. Since it’s a little early, I decided to get a massage. It’s pretty cheap. It was 250 yen for an hour. It’s a Hood Massage. So, it’s Massage Hood Master. I just finished a 60-minute session for 250 shots . It felt amazing. It was a hit. This place is like that. It’s not a Chinese massage, it’s a regular Thai massage. Yes. It’s a nice place in the middle of Nakashin Chinatown Street. It has nothing to do with Chinatown, but seriously, this massage was amazing. This place was really good. It has a slightly expensive, upscale feel, but even so, it was only 250 yen . It was a foot massage, and they even gave me tea and snacks at the end. The lady who took care of me was someone I usually go to, but today I dropped in on a place I didn’t know, and she was incredibly good, like maybe one in 50 massage parlors I’ve been to 50 times , so it felt amazing. Well, it’s about time, so let’s have lunch at 11:36 and wrap up our visit to New Chinatown. It’s not like this place is just in Chinatown; you can find them all over Bangkok shopping malls, but when you’re in Chinatown, it can feel a bit like you’re in China. White also offers a full range of services for Chinese tourists and residents . Chinese travel agencies, 24-hour restaurants, and convenience stores are concentrated here, catering to a wide range of Chinese tourists . There’s also a famous shrine dedicated to the goddess Zōshin Gane, open for worship 24 hours a day. The town is gradually evolving into a popular destination for Chinese tourists visiting the area, dramatically transforming the town’s landscape and atmosphere from its predecessor. Even with this kind of logistics, once you get in, it’s hard to resist. That street is very Chinese, though. Oh, but it’s Chinese food. This place is amazing, too. It’s kind of interesting. It’s a more authentic Chinese zone than I expected, and I saw a meeting . This is a hotpot restaurant. I think this is the end of the main street. It was quite long. Then there ‘s this sort of thing, and there’s a lot of other things on the side streets. As I said before , there are a lot of Chinese restaurants on the side streets, but they still have a Chinese feel. It’s completely absorbed. It’s a little early, but let’s look for a place for lunch. Is this another hotpot restaurant? A hotpot restaurant. No hotpot. There are a lot of these food stalls next to them. But this place serves big dishes. There’s no Chinese food. I think this is probably how it should be. Oh, but there are also some hotpot places. There are a lot of hotpot places. It’s really densely packed. I feel like there aren’t many of those soft-boiled dishes. Yeah, I didn’t know that. The main reason behind the Chinese presence in the White District is said to be the massive influx of Chinese capital and the resulting boom in commercial real estate development. According to local reports, Chinese investors have been buying up stores and buildings in the district, creating a huge Chinese community and asserting their economic rights. Following an incident in which some Chinese business owners were accused of operating unauthorized clubs under other people’s names and engaging in illegal activities, local authorities have stepped up investigations of Chinese businesses around the world, including the White District, and are cracking down on illegal operations and unlicensed businesses . I think I’ll go with the first restaurant I had my eye on. There are so many options, it’s hard to decide, but I want to eat dumplings. So, I’ll go with this one. There’s probably no one there yet. So I went inside and it was pretty authentic. Oh , they have a lot of Chinese food. The menu was impressive. It was easy to understand, with pictures. It wasn’t that cheap . I guess the prices were about the same as Chinese food in Japan. Maybe a little cheaper. The most recommended item was, oh, they also have Subu . Subuda for 180 looks delicious, and they have Chinese dishes for Japanese people like Mapozu. I ordered these pan-fried dumplings and, uh, Yangzhou Chaha for 150, for a total of 270, and water . The drinks were mostly Chinese, too. Yes. And the beer, well , it was Tai beer. That’s about it. The receptionist, or rather the staff member who came to take my order, was Chinese. But when I said Japanese, they could speak English and Thai. They’re the kind of people who can speak at least a little bit of Japanese. But their appearance, you know. It’s really strange, isn’t it? So, well, they do have fried rice at Dairyori, but this is the fried rice you need in the Gachika Zone. Well, it looks delicious. Um, it’s a bit pricey with fried rice with the ta-da, isn’t it? This is 150 yen, so, well, it looks delicious. Let’s eat. It’s just plain delicious. Super delicious. It’s definitely different from sea bream fried rice . It has a Chinese taste. It’s higher quality than I expected and delicious. It tastes like the fried rice you get at a Chinese restaurant in a high-end hotel. You can get fried rice pretty much anywhere, no matter what country you go to. So I thought it might be like that. It’s not sea bream fried rice. Oh, it’s seriously delicious. Well, it tastes like it’s got a lot of flavor in it, but it’s delicious. Doesn’t this look really delicious? The gyoza with wings are amazing. Yes, it’s nice. This is the sauce. It’s really big. Wow, it’s really crispy. Oh, it’s surprisingly small. This looks delicious . Ah, but it does have a bit of a Chinese taste . And the aroma. It smells a bit like discovery. It’s super crispy. So, it was incredibly delicious. I was totally stuffed from just the gyoza and fried rice. The total was 290 yen. So, that’s it for today. I went to see the Chinese-influenced town, the new Chinatown, which is separate from Chinatown, and I actually showed it to you all. It’s quite interesting, so I think you should check it out. Like I said before, if you’re tired of all the sightseeing, or if you’ve been to Chinatown but want something a little different, I think this place would be fun. Yes. I’m glad it didn’t rain just in time. I’ll wrap it up here. And finally, here’s a bonus video. I’m currently in front of the Painting of Nations, and I was thinking of going to a trendy massage parlor in Bangkok, or rather , the noisiest massage parlor in the world. It’s a type of massage parlor you’ve never seen before , and I’m going to experience it now . This is the shop, but it doesn’t look like a massage parlor, it’s more like a club. So I moved in, and the inside of the shop is like this. Well, it’s what you would imagine, It was a completely different world from a massage parlor. For 1200 baht for 1 hour and 60 minutes, they gave me soft serve ice cream, ice cream, and even sandals as a souvenir—a pretty amazing concept. Well, I actually got some ice cream right away, and I was wondering why it cost 1200 baht, but this was more of an entertainment experience than a massage, so please watch a little more. [Applause] It’s really noisy inside the place, and it’s extremely loud. The background music is also blaring, so it’s narrated due to copyright issues. It’s a massage, after all, and they’re currently washing my feet. Welcome. Amazing. This is all just for me . Welcome. [Applause] It’s like a club. It’s crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy. Wow, amazing. So I sat down, and it wasn’t really a massage, it was more like a club. The atmosphere was incredibly chaotic, with club music playing at full volume. [Music] The whole place is like a monitor, so your eyes hurt. You ‘ll need sunglasses. If you don’t have any, they’ll lend you some. There was a DJ, and this massage was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before, so I started to think it was interesting and got really excited. They basically gave me a massage, but then they stopped and it was time for dancing. It was amazing. [Music] [Music] The win started suddenly. A bunch of staff members came in like this, and a short break suddenly began. I didn’t get a massage at all. They told me to dance, too, so all the customers gathered in the middle and danced. After that, they gave me a massage, just for show, and then it was an hour, so I had to leave. It was intense. It was amazing. At the end, they gave me a cold bottom. Finally, I was given another soft serve ice cream, and after that, it was time to say goodbye. It’s better to go as if you’re enjoying the ultimate entertainment rather than a massage. That’s typical Bangkok. It was a very memorable experience. [Music] So, it was the first time I’ve been tired after a massage. But it was so much fun. It’s a concept that I can’t really picture, so if you’re interested, please come and see it . It’s amazing that a Japanese person is doing it. That was the bonus video. Thank you for watching. 1.
