【長野・松本観光】国宝の街、松本城とレトロな城下町さんぽ|グルメ|信州蕎麦|縄手通り

Hello everyone! This time, I’ll be taking you to Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Matsumoto City is located almost in the center of Nagano Prefecture. It’s adjacent to Gifu Prefecture, which is about two and a half to three hours from Tokyo . We went there by car this time. You might be wondering what Matsumoto has to offer. There’s Matsumoto Castle, a national treasure, and Kamikochi, a natural wonderland. We went there last year, too. Please also check out this video. There’s also the Utsukushigahara Plateau. It’s a fascinating city where you can enjoy both history and nature. This time, I’ll focus on sightseeing in the city. Let’s get started. We arrived at Matsumoto Station. I parked my car near the station. It costs 1,200 yen a day. This time, we’re taking a day trip to Matsumoto. I’ll have breakfast first. I’m hungry because I haven’t eaten anything. There are many coffee shops in Matsumoto, and some seem to open early in the morning. Let’s eat there. Let’s get going. It’s just after 9:00 AM and it’s hot again today. The maximum temperature reached 35°C. The area around Matsumoto Station is thriving. From what I can see, there are many Japanese confectionery shops. There are buildings, but also some old buildings, creating a mix of old and new. Looking at the signs, you’ll see many shops with names like “X-ya” and “X-do. ” This is Matsumoto’s pure water. Matsumoto is famous for its clean water . Wells spring up all over the city, and residents seem to use them for daily use. There’s also drinking water. It’s surprising to see it even at an intersection like this. It’s interesting. There are many people dragging suitcases. There are foreign tourists. Matsumoto is a quaint place, but surprisingly, there are also young people. I wanted to go to “Okinado,” a Japanese confectionery shop that’s also a coffee shop. Their tanuki cake is famous and I wanted to try it. It’s closed on Wednesdays, so please try it on any day. I’ll have breakfast here. Coffee Bigaku Abe. It’s very retro. It opens at 7:00 AM . They have a coffee list. There’s an English menu, so you can rest easy. Choose your drink and your favorite side dish. Everything is priced between 50 and 100 yen. I’m having trouble deciding. There’s a picture here, and it’s also written in English. Mocha cream ore. Mocha cream ore. This is Abe’s specialty. Other customers were ordering it, too, and it looks good in videos. The cup is tall. This is vanilla ice cream. The balance of sweet and bitter is just right. It’s delicious . The sweetness of the ice cream is just right. This is 50 to 100 yen. There are so many options, it’s hard to choose. I ordered the pork frankfurter. I ordered it with mustard and ketchup . It’s delicious. I also had a boiled egg. Egg stands like this are rare these days. Boiled eggs are a staple of coffee shop breakfasts. I had the boiled egg with salt. It was delicious. I also had potato salad. This was also delicious . On the back of the receipt, it said: Black as the devil, gentle as an angel, sweet as love. A moment of coffee… It was delicious. Prices between 50 and 100 yen are a bargain. It’s so cheap, I want to order a variety. There were foreign tourists and some solo visitors. It’s a popular shop, and the interior was lovely . I highly recommend it. I think I’ll walk towards Matsumoto Castle now. Up ahead is a school, a National Treasure. This is a local manhole cover. Matsumoto is also famous for its traditional handicraft, “temari,” dating back to the Edo period. Matsumoto isn’t too crowded, so it’s a relaxing place. There’s spring water flowing here . It’s found all over the city. Up ahead is the Metoba River. Let’s go and check it out. Matsumoto City also offers a tour called “Water Tour,” which involves touring the city’s wells and springs on a map. It’s interesting. Apparently , there’s rejuvenating water somewhere. I can see the river. Those are cherry trees. The cherry blossoms here are beautiful in spring, too. This is the Metoba River. It’s calm and beautiful. This is Fureai Street. The streetlights are cute. If you go straight, you can see Matsumoto Castle, but I can’t see it. This time, I was provided with shoes from Lumton. They’re stylish, lightweight, and well-designed. It’s a Korean brand and seems to have the largest market share in Korea. Choosing shoes is always tricky, isn’t it? You can’t really tell until you try them on. Sizes and widths vary by manufacturer, so I was a little worried, but now my feet don’t hurt. They’re very comfortable. So far, I haven’t felt any discomfort. They’re light, cushioned, and very comfortable. My wife’s shoes are gray. They go with a variety of outfits. They come in other colors, and they don’t overlap with other brands. They don’t have a big logo, so they stand out . They’re super soft. They have good cushioning. And they’re really light. I recommend them for travel and everyday use . I’ll try them out for a day and see how they feel . We walk all the time, so I’ll give them a try. I hope to share my thoughts at the end. This is a dashi vending machine . They sell Dashi Doraku dashi. It’s rare and costs 850 yen. It’s a great dashi, isn’t it? I use it for udon, soba, and even rice with raw egg. I dilute it 8 times. I made a detour! 😅 There’s a sacred tree in the middle of the road. It’s so sacred that it can’t be cut. The road is blocked by the tree. There’s also well water here. Matsumoto City has abundant groundwater. It’s incredibly cold. It’s been selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan. It ‘s the cold, clean, natural water of Matsumoto. Please use it carefully. It’s drinkable, if you like. It’s delicious. This is an elementary school. You can see Kaichi School over there. That’s the current Kaichi Elementary School. The elementary school is stylish, too . It’s called Kaichi Elementary School. The old Kaichi School is over there. This sidewalk is amazing, too. I’ll go this way. There are two sidewalks . It would be suspicious if you showed too many school images. Here we are. The old Kaichi School, a National Treasure. The balcony has been changed. It’s designed like a shrine or temple. If you look closely, you can see a dragon. This is the National Treasure Kaichi School. It was built in the early Meiji period. The end of the Edo period marked the beginning of the Meiji era, when Western influences were introduced. Western and Japanese architecture blended together. If you look closely, you ‘ll see the tiled roof. There’s a dragon and an angel on the balcony. It’s very unusual, a mix of Japanese and Western styles . You can actually see what life was like back then. You can even go inside Kaichi School. Inside is a museum showcasing the educational materials and history of education from that time. It’s a popular tourist spot in Matsumoto City. Admission is ¥700. Back then, there were only three subjects. Students studied each subject for two hours. Apparently, there were no breaks except for lunch. It must have been tough. These are textbooks from that time. Feel free to touch them. The illustrations are cute and surprisingly interesting . The old textbooks were adorable. The school building itself is a mix of Japanese, Western, and Chinese styles. I highly recommend you visit. I can see it. It’s magnificent. It’s impressive even from here. We’ve arrived at Matsumoto Castle, a National Treasure. This is another black castle tower. Karasu Castle in Okayama and Hiroshima Castle in Hiroshima were also black. Recently, we have been featuring a lot of black castles in our videos. They’re cool! There are only 12 castles in Japan that still have castle towers that have existed since ancient times. Of these, the most outstanding castles are designated as national treasures. Most castles have been restored, but Matsumoto Castle has been there since ancient times. By the way, there are five national treasures in Japan. Matsumoto Castle is one of the five national treasure castles. The others are Himeji Castle, Hikone Castle, Inuyama Castle, and Matsue Castle. Incidentally, Osaka Castle is not a national treasure; it is a national tangible cultural property. Matsumoto Castle’s official Instagram account has the most followers in Japan, with 40,000. Next is Kumamoto Castle. Apparently, it’s followed by many foreigners, and in fact, many foreigners. I want everyone to know that it’s not just a castle. The moat is shallow, the castle looks like an island, and it was built using cutting-edge technology of the time, making it very difficult to attack. Matsumoto Castle is one of the best castles, combining combat and aesthetic sense. The willow trees are nice. Photographing the castle from an angle creates a sense of depth and is cool. Apparently, on clear winter days, you can see the Northern Alps from here. Even now, you can see a little of the mountains. I recommend visiting in winter. Matsumoto Castle and the Northern Alps are spectacular. The weather is bad today. Do you know the meaning of the castle tower? I looked it up myself. The castle tower is the tallest building. This is it here. There are also many smaller buildings, storehouses, and turrets. What exactly is a castle? Actually, the castle is the collective name for the entire site. It includes the moat, gates, and small buildings. The Matsumoto Castle Improvement Plan, planned from 2025 to 2031, is particularly challenging, as it aims to clean the moat . There seem to be many challenges. There are carp, too, but they’re a bit creepy. 😨 That shop over there is the castle. It’s a souvenir shop. Leaving Matsumoto Castle, I headed for lunch. Nagano is synonymous with soba, and I’m thinking about heading there now. It’s a charming soba restaurant called Kobayashi. You can drink soba tea for free while you wait. It’s delicious. There’s also an English menu, so foreigners can feel at ease. The staff speak English, too. I ordered a small omelet. It’s not just a small one. It’s too big. 😳 It’s heavy and fluffy. I ordered an omelet. I was surprised at how thick it was. I wonder what the large one would be like? The taste was like a sweet omelet, with a fluffy texture and delicious flavor. Yes. Other customers always order this, too . I think it’s a specialty here. It tastes even better when combined with the toppings of green onions, pickled ginger, and grated daikon radish. Finally, I added some noodle soup to enhance the flavor, which was also delicious. Definitely give the omelet a try . Next up is soba. When you think of Nagano, soba is definitely delicious. The reason soba is so good is because the water is clean. The soup is made with bonito flakes. It has a refined flavor, simple yet never boring . It’s delicious. There was also wasabi. Nagano is famous for wasabi, and the wasabi from neighboring Azumino is said to be particularly delicious. I’m not sure if it’s Azumino wasabi, but personally, when I add it to the noodle soup, the wasabi aroma fills my mouth and it’s really delicious. I highly recommend giving it a try. They have it both hot and cold, so please try whichever you prefer. It was delicious! I was surprised at how big the omelet was! Just eating the omelet was enough to fill me up ! Actually, this restaurant is located on the grounds of a shrine. It’s unusual. I’m going to visit the shrine now. It was crowded. I waited in line for about 30 minutes. It gets busy at 12 o’clock , so if you go, it might be better to go early, like at 11:00, when it opens. This is Shihashira Shrine. Because there are four pillars, there are four gods. That ‘s why it’s called Shihashira Shrine . It seems like it has a lot of power. The enshrined deity is four pillars. The gods are counted as pillars, not one or two. It’s a shrine with strong divine power. It’s popular with foreign tourists, and it has a deep history. In front of the shrine is Nawate-dori Street. You can tell because there’s a frog sculpture. 🐸 The reason for the frog is that there used to be a lot of frogs living in this Onna-Toba River. Because the water is clean, there were a lot of frogs. Apparently, people prayed for the frogs to return. However, their eyes are a little scary. A frog is slaying another frog, and next to it is the Metoba River. Shops sell various frog-themed items, including a bronze frog statue. Frog stickers, key chains, and bags are also available. Nawate Street isn’t very wide. This is the rejuvenating water . It’s said that drinking it will rejuvenate you. The panel also features a frog. This is the Metoba River. Many of the shops are closed today, which is a shame. This place has been around since the Edo period . The cafe is stylish. I really wanted to go here. This place is famous for its taiyaki. I wanted to try the taiyaki ice cream, which is a shame. We’re usually closed, so please come and visit. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Everything is closed today . I really wanted to show you all, but unfortunately, this is also a reality of tourist destinations. Nagano is famous for gohei mochi, and they also sell pottery. There are a lot of foreigners. The back alleys are also worth seeing. They remind me of Onomichi. Back alleys are adorable. It’s a different world. There are no people. The scenery is both Western and Japanese. There are also restrooms. I ‘ve just left Nawate Street. This place seems to be popular, too. This is Coffee Marmo. This place is so famous it’s always featured in guidebooks . If you’re interested, please give it a try. It’s a little too full for my liking. This cute sign is reminiscent of the world of Miyazawa Kenji. It feels like Morioka. This is Nakamachi Street. It has a nice atmosphere. This is the Namako Wall. It’s not too crowded, so it’s comfortable. Matsumoto isn’t just Matsumoto Castle; it also has a castle town. The old-fashioned townscape remains, and I highly recommend visiting it. It’s newly built, and it’s beautiful. There are rows of storehouses. It seems they were burned down in a big fire long ago and turned into storehouses. They’re made of stone, so they’re fire-resistant. Sanzoku-yaki is also a local specialty . There’s an old well here. It’s not in use anymore, but a bus passes by . The Midori Pharmaceutical building is particularly old and cute . I wanted to go here. This place is also closed. Everything is closed on Wednesdays, so I don’t recommend going there on Wednesdays. I think they’re open on weekends . They also sell shaved ice. The ice is natural. I found a cute donut shop. I have to go. They have daily donuts and curry donuts. I ordered a fresh cream donut and a donut pit . Here it is. These donut pits come in a variety of flavors, so I’m being greedy. They look so cute . Here it is. It’s delicious . I’ll eat it. It’s fluffy and chewy and filled with delicious fresh cream. I love these donuts. Donuts are a separate stomach. Matsumoto was fun. Most of the shops I wanted to visit were closed this time. Matsumoto’s cityscape can be toured compactly within walking distance. It’s fine for a two-day, one-night trip or a day trip, so please do visit Matsumoto. My impression after wearing them for another day is that they didn’t tire me out at all. Even shoes that I’m used to wearing can be surprisingly tiring when traveling, but these were absolutely fine, and to be honest, I was worried. It was my first time wearing shoes from an unfamiliar manufacturer, so I was worried about them slipping off, but that didn’t happen at all . I had a very comfortable trip . Thank you, Lumton. So, I’d like to end this video on this note. If you enjoyed this video, please rate it highly, comment, and subscribe to the channel. See you on the next trip. 👋
