圧倒的非日常「四万温泉積善館」ラグジュアリーな空間で時代を楽しむ山荘特別室が凄すぎた
How are you all? Welcome to Nabe Travel Premium. This time, I’d like to visit Shima Onsen Sekizenkan in Nakanojo Town, Gunma Prefecture. This is known as one of the inspirations for Spirited Away. I’m looking forward to it! Let’s take a look together! Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel! Good morning, everyone! We’ve safely arrived at the inn. The gate already exudes a nice atmosphere. Sekizenkan has two entrances, the main building and Kashotei. This is the Kashotei side. A simple and chic lobby welcomes you. I’ll check in right away and go see the room. What will this room be like? The door opens. The front is amazing. It’s spacious, and the room has a sense of elegance and class, and is spacious enough. The room we stayed in today, Sekizenkan, is a room in a mountain villa. It’s a 5-star special Japanese-Western room with a waiting room. I booked this time through Ikyu.com, and it was 44,000 yen per person for a weekday stay with two meals included (breakfast and dinner). There are only two rooms of this special Japanese-Western room type, so you need to call the hotel directly when making a reservation. The bedroom also has a spacious bed , so you can sleep well . That’s the entrance over there. I wonder what’s over there? This is the toilet. The changing room is also spacious and has a full range of amenities. The indoor bath has a nice atmosphere. Being able to use it any time is such a luxury, I can’t resist it. It’s a Showa-era retro space where special time flows, and it’s also known as a romantic mountain villa that tells the story of the glory of the Showa era . It is said that great people from each era enjoyed their vacations at this inn, soothed by its coexistence with nature. You can also enjoy the beautiful kumiko shoji screens in each room, which are different from the other master craftsmen of the Showa era. This is a registered tangible cultural property of Japan and a Gunma Prefecture modern heritage site. There is a minibar, but beer and soft drinks are served free of charge. The atmosphere at night is also wonderful. Enjoying a drink in this space will make you forget about time and feel refreshed. Please note that due to sound reverberation, children under elementary school age are not allowed to stay in the mountain lodge rooms. It is a luxury for adults. Also, since it was mid-November, the autumn leaves were beautiful, but unfortunately there were a lot of stink bugs. If you don’t like stink bugs, I recommend a room at Kashotei. Now , let’s take a walk around the hotel. Sekizenkan is known as the oldest hot spring inn building, and was founded in 1694, the 7th year of the Genroku era during the Edo period. It is also famous as the inn that was the model for the movie Spirited Away. Sekizenkan is divided into three areas, and was built by adding on to the main building . It is difficult to explain everything verbally, so please check the official website in the description section for details . Now, we have walked from Kashotei, and next we would like to take a look at the mountain lodge. The newest Kashotei is also It was built in 1986, so it’s a long-established establishment. This mountain lodge was built in 1936 and is designated as a national tangible cultural property. It was built on the slope at the back of the main building, bringing together the best of architecture from that time. It is an unprecedentedly luxurious Momoyama-style building, decorated using the skills of artisans in sculpture and crafts. A prime example of the Momoyama style is Nikko Toshogu Shrine. You can enjoy the luxurious atmosphere with its extensive use of gold and lacquer in the decoration . The atmosphere is completely different from Kashotei, so it feels like you’ve traveled back in time and it’s really fun. Just walking around feels like you’re in a museum. This is Lounge Izutsu, located in the mountain lodge. This is a space that can only be used by guests staying at the mountain lodge and Kashotei. It opened in 2021, and here you can enjoy self-service medicinal tea, black tea, and ice cream. The inn also has private baths, some of which are free and some are paid. The hot spring at Sanso is free. It ‘s amazing, the atmosphere is really like an old private bath, isn’t it? It’s a design that you don’t see very often these days, and this one might be even cuter. Now, let’s go back in time even further. I’d like to go from the Sanso to the main building. The area from Kashotei to the main building is divided into three areas vertically, so there is quite a difference in elevation. I think the technology to add on this slope is amazing. And when you come to the main building, the atmosphere is completely different from the Sanso. The main building, built in 1691, is the oldest hot spring inn building in Japan and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Gunma Prefecture. In addition, Sanso and Genroku no Yu are registered cultural properties of the country. It has also been designated as a Gunma Prefecture Heritage Site of Modernization. There’s a certain depth and flavor that can only come from the passage of time . This historical museum is located on the first floor of the main building, where you can experience the history of Sekizenkan, which has been in existence for over 300 years. It’s only open to guests, so the general public isn’t allowed inside. With such a long history, the inn has been visited by not only the Imperial family but also many great people and cultural figures, including rakugo performers and politicians. Here, you can enjoy not only history but also traditional Japanese craft techniques. This is the entrance to the main building. It’s long been said that drinking Shima’s hot springs is good for the stomach and intestines, and bathing in them is good for the skin. Drinking spring water is dotted around the inn, and some even have their own drinking fountains. Next to the main building entrance is Genroku-no-Yu, built in 1930. It was luxurious for its time, and has a modern Western-style hall-like design that evokes the romantic atmosphere of the Taisho period. The contrast between the blue sky and the colorful trees is truly beautiful. Apparently, that is not a waterwheel, but a waterwheel that is turned by hot spring water. I’m tired from walking, so I’d like to take a short rest in the footbath. This is the exterior of the main building. You can also have a light meal at Sekizen-ya, which is next to the entrance . Sekizenkan looks really beautiful at night, it’s amazing. Next, let’s go and check out the food. Dinner is at the Kashotei restaurant, where they serve seasonal kaiseki cuisine. Depending on the room and plan you stay in , the location of the restaurant may change, so it’s best to check your plan carefully when making a reservation . Now, let’s start with a beer. Thank you everyone for your hard work. Today’s meal will start with brown rice soup as an appetizer, followed by a palate cleanser , bowls, grilled sashimi, lidded and steamed dishes, and dishes on a tray. This is a kaiseki course meal with nine types of water. The broth itself was delicious and the food was of a very high standard. The sashimi here was served with foam soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce, which combined the sashimi and soy sauce perfectly and was absolutely delicious. It was absolutely irresistible. The ingredients were all seasonal, which was very satisfying. It was a very delicate dish. This is Joshu Wagyu beef shabu- shabu served in sanratan soup. The meat was sweet and not too oily, it was absolutely delicious. And here is steamed sweet snapper and Tamba chestnuts. There were also a variety of desserts, from Western sweets to fresh fruit, which were all delicious. It was a very satisfying dinner. Next , let’s take a look at breakfast. You can choose from rice, porridge, and four kinds of fresh smoothies. There are plenty of side dishes and side dishes, and each dish is beautifully presented. It was so delicious that I thought it would be nice to come just to eat the rice as part of a kaiseki meal, rather than just as a dining area within the inn . I was really satisfied, thank you for the meal.
