[廣島-岡山]EP3 在古老街區裡醒來 – 倉敷古民家住一晚
Taking the train from Onomichi to Kurashiki On Kurashiki’s historic Bikan district streets, a two-story traditional house with 80 years of history Turning into the alley, this is the entrance to tonight’s accommodation The original old Tsuchiya residence has been renovated: the first floor is the Bikan-do curated shop, and the second floor is the inn where we’re staying We arrived at the inn early and asked if we could leave our luggage, but to our surprise, the staff allowed us to check in ahead of time Upstairs, there’s a wooden floor area where we can place our luggage “Kurashi no Yado Temari” is located in Kurashiki’s Bikan district, offering three unique lodging spaces Each building hosts only one guest group; we stayed in the one called “Yukikai The inn is guided by the philosophy of “making handicrafts the main focus” A whole floor covered with tatami mats, furnished with simple handcrafted furniture Shelves display various tableware available for use The colorful Bizen-yaki beer cups are from “Shusseito,” a Bizen-yaki brand in Imbe, Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture It is said that beer tastes especially good when drunk from Bizen-yaki cups. A collection of Kohiki-style tableware by Takashi Sogō, a ceramic artist from Tamano, Okayama Prefecture Handcrafted glass sake bottles and cups by Eiji Kotani from Kurashiki The building’s structure and sturdy beams and pillars have been preserved At the back of the room, there’s a small balcony overlooking a cluster of traditional houses with dark-tiled roofs We gathered around the round table with the staff, and she kindly introduced the room’s amenities. She recommended a few restaurants for dinner. Then she invited us to sit at the table by the window while she went to prepare afternoon tea Cups and plates were already set on the table The staff brought us hot towels and a welcome tea snack A financier from the sister shop “Haremokemo,” paired with a cup of sweet and rich Okayama white peach juice Sitting by the wooden window, enjoying the treats while watching the bustling crowd outside, the contrast between inside and out makes the calm and cozy atmosphere even more apparent Along the banks of the Kurashiki River Craft Gallery Kan The building that left a strong impression when I last visited Kurashiki It is now a craft gallery A butter-free matcha sandwich cookie from “CHOCOLATELL,” featuring a crisp rice-flour shell After something sweet, we wanted something savory—so we had a meat bun! This is the Okayama Fruit Museum. On the first floor, there’s a shop selling seasonal Okayama fruits, juices, and more. At dusk, the scenery takes on a whole different atmosphere. Kurashikikan Tourist Information Center Bought some bread at the bakery for tomorrow’s breakfast Then we returned to the inn to plan what to have for dinner Outside the room, the streets of Kurashiki move at a slower pace The nighttime landscape lighting of Kurashiki Bikan, designed by lighting designer Mikiko Ishii, highlights the elegant contours of the historic buildings As night falls, the Kurashiki old streets grow quiet after the tourists have left
