【2025.夏旅】北海道・道東の神秘的スポットを巡り、道央へ!

Good morning , my fourth day in Hokkaido . It’s the morning of my fourth day. My fourth day started off without a hitch. Leaving Rausu Town, the weather improved after crossing the Shiretoko Pass. So, here’s today’s route. From Rausu Town, I drove approximately 390 km, finishing in Obihiro City. I’m heading for Obihiro City, making detours to some of the most charming spots in eastern Hokkaido. Bear sightings have been quite common this year. So, I’ll enjoy today without any accidents or violations. It’s the first clear day on my fourth day in Hokkaido. This straight road stretches approximately 28.1 km in length . It’s named after the fact that its straightness seems to reach the sky. The temperature is 27°C, making for a very pleasant ride. It’s great to ride slowly and enjoy the scenery. This is a must-see spot when visiting eastern Hokkaido. Sakura Falls, located in Kiyosato Town, Hokkaido, is where you can see cherry salmon swimming up the falls from June to August. The peak season is mid-June through July, and the sight of the powerful 3.7-meter waterfall is particularly impressive. Watching them jump with all their might is enough to make you want to cheer them on. Our next stop is about 16km from Sakura Falls. The entrance to Kaminoko Pond. From here, we ride about 2km on an unpaved road. Apparently, the trail was closed until yesterday due to a bear sighting on the fourth day. We proceed cautiously, keeping a watchful eye out for bears. We arrive at the Kaminoko Pond parking lot. We’ve ridden about 105km from Rausu Town to Kaminoko Pond. There were more people than we expected, which was a relief. Apparently , the trail was closed until yesterday due to a bear sighting. Lake of the Gods Nicknamed “Kaminoko Pond” because of legend, it’s derived from underground water from Lake Mashu. This small pond, measuring 220 meters in circumference and 5 meters deep, never freezes, even in winter, thanks to the 12,000 tons of underground water that springs out every day. The water temperature remains low at 8°C year-round. Fallen trees remain submerged in the blue water like fossils, creating an indescribably mysterious beauty. It feels as though a goddess might emerge from the pond. A golden or silver axe. A walkway surrounds Kaminoko Pond. Surrounded by trees, it’s a very relaxing space. I see someone peering into the pond, so I go closer. Apparently, there are small fish in the pond. An endangered species found only in Hokkaido. I spotted a Dolly Varden trout. Kitami City recently recorded a record-breaking heatwave in Hokkaido. Today’s temperature in Kitami City is 34°C (the record-breaking heatwave is 40°C). I’m starting to get hungry. About an hour from Kitami City. I’ve driven about 155km from Kaminoko Pond. I’ll have lunch here. Google Maps shows it’s open, but it seems everything is closed. I was planning to eat ramen here. What a shame. No lunch. I pull myself together and head to a location about 750m from my current location. The building has a very retro feel. It’s a great spot for fox lovers. Admission is 500 yen for adults. Touching the foxes is prohibited except for the zookeepers. I felt soothed and happy by the many foxes. From Kitami City, I headed to Obihiro City. From here, I drove about 130 km, and Obihiro City was my goal. After eating, I headed to my lodging. I arrived at a local gourmet restaurant in Obihiro City. It’s a curry shop beloved by Obihiro residents . Just order the recommended dish and you’ll be fine. From left to right: fukujinzuke (pickled vegetables), green shiso seeds, and ginger. This curry dish is topped with pork cutlet and cheese, making it a fantastic dish. Add your favorite condiments to enjoy. Thank you for the meal. Now, I’m off to my lodging for the night. There are many traveling bikers here. It’s a very comfortable biker’s lodging. One night is 1,500 yen . Good morning the next morning . It’s the morning of the fifth day. I departed, seeing fellow travelers off. I’d like to share a summary of my fifth day in a digest. Today, we’ll travel approximately 200km from Obihiro City, finishing in Imoseushi Town. We’ll enjoy Hokkaido while making detours. Let’s enjoy today without any accidents or violations. Obihiro Shrine is known as the shrine where the snow fairy, the long-tailed tit, visits to play. These tits are often seen from autumn to spring, and sightings are often reported on social media. They are frequently featured in books and magazines about long-tailed tits, as well as in bird enthusiast newsletters, making the shrine known as a sacred place for long-tailed tits. This is a place to purify your mind and body before worshiping. Wash your hands and rinse your mouth. On the way to the main shrine, we spotted a woodpecker and a Hokkaido squirrel. We pass through a “Chinowa ” (a circular straw ring). This ritual purifies the mind and body, wards off misfortune, and prays for good health. The proper etiquette is two bows, two claps, and one bow. The “Ezo Mikuji” (fortune slip) at Obihiro Shrine features a long-tailed tit. There are 15 types of “Ezo Mikuji” throughout Hokkaido. It might be fun to go on a trip to collect them. I found a lovely shrine rest area, so I’d like to introduce it to you. The artificial flowers were very beautiful. There was also a portable shrine on display. I drove about 110km from Obihiro City. I’m going to Furano City to eat some corn and then go see the lavender. First, I’ll eat corn. This is a shop I always come to. It’s closed due to a busy nationwide shipping business. You can buy warm boiled corn. There are two varieties, white and yellow, for 300 yen each. Both were delicious. It’s great to see the blue sky. From here, it’s a roller coaster road. It’s a popular spot that’s always crowded. Lavender fields, Kanno Farm Tomorrow is the last day of my Hokkaido trip. Tomorrow, I’d like to share the beautiful summer scenery. Well, we’ll soon be arriving at the inn. Room only, 2,500 yen per night
