道東 ― 日の出から青へ / Eastern Hokkaido – From Sunrise to Blue
Journeying through the brief summer of Eastern Hokkaido. The first shots were taken while on the move. The sky ahead looked truly beautiful. My first destination— Cape Namida in Hamanaka Town. There was nothing but expectation for the sunrise glow. After Obon, the heat was gone, but swarms of mosquitoes attacked. I held mosquito coils as a countermeasure, but… My arms were bitten in many places while holding them. The sky gradually turned deep red. I arrived at the cape. Capturing the sunrise in time-lapse. It was a quiet sunrise. Fishing boats for kelp set out to sea. Such colors move me no matter where I see them. Cormorants were flying overhead. The rocky shore next to the cape seemed to be their home. With good weather, I moved on. This is the view from Roadside Michinoeki Odaitou. Next, the scenery around Narawara on the Notsuke Peninsula. Normally, it would be Todowara, but instead… I headed for the Bird Observatory on Notsuke Peninsula, unreachable by car. That was my goal. A deer was crossing. And this one remaining… Also crossed. It waited patiently. Thankfully, they didn’t attack. Ryujinzaki—the lighthouse ahead doesn’t seem accessible. The hut that came into view was my destination. It was a solidly built hut. Impressive that it withstands the winter winds. At the observatory, there was little movement at that time. This deer stayed right next to my parked car. Next, I visited the Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden. It wasn’t my first time passing through here, but… I had never been blessed with such fine weather. Mt. Shari could be seen beautifully. Toward the Shiretoko Peninsula—Mt. Rausu is on the right. As its name suggests, the Koshimizu Flower Garden is supposed to feature flowers, but after Obon, there was nothing left in bloom. This black kite was about all I managed to capture… Next is Kaminokoike Pond, the Pond of the Gods. I had never taken this route—it was my first time here. Thanks to the clear weather, this brilliant blue appeared. Lastly, I visited the Uramashu Observatory for the first time. Compared to the First Observatory, the parking lot was smaller. Even so, it was crowded with many people. It was my first time seeing Lake Mashu completely free of mist. Thank you for watching.
