What to do in Obama Onsen (Hot Springs) in Nagasaki, Japan!
This volcanic spring looks hot, but it’s actually cold. Hi everyone! I’m in Obama, Unzen city, Nagasaki prefecture. Obama is a town famous for its hot springs. Steam is everywhere! Amazing! Let’s take a look at this. Wow! This is a hot water river! Let’s check out the longest foot-bath in Japan. It’s 105m/344.5ft long. This foot-bath offers a wonderful view of Tachibana Bay! After the foot bath, the sea breeze feels amazing on my feet. So heavenly! Walking in this section will massage your feet! The lowest part of the bath is for pets. It says here… They sell cutting boards, knives, plates and chopsticks, too. The people of Obama celebrated after Barack Obama was elected US President by creating this statue and special towels. These towels! (President Obama enjoying a hot spring soak.) Yamaguchi Seafood is famous for their seafood crackers. The whole octopus crackers are delicious and addictive. Being so popular, they allow only one bag per person. It smells so good! At Mushigamaya, the restaurant staff will cook the seafood you choose using steam from the hot spring. They also have a regular menu items, such as Seafood Bowls, Tempura Combination Dinner, Pork Cutlet Combination Dinner, etc. Okamoto Chez d’amour is my favorite cake shop & cafe in town. The pastry chef is excellent, and he makes many kinds of delicious cakes and other confections. I had their “2-cake set” with “all you can drink for 2 hours.” ¥1,500. Hot and cold drinks are available! “Isn’t it amazing to have cakes with this view?” Wonderful! Right next to the staircase of the cafe… there’s a tiny vegetable “market.” They use the honor system. You pick up the veggies and drop payment in the box. My parents and I stayed at JISCO Hotel Obama Onsen. We received welcome drinks in the super-clean quiet lobby. They kindly showed me some rooms. This is a room with one double bed. With 2 beds, Japanese people call this a “twin room.” My parents and I had a “triple room.” Our room had a balcony, and the view of the bay was amazing! Our room also had a kitchenette and a combo washer/dryer. Not every room has a washer/dryer, but they have a complementary laundry room for guests. Obama is also known for its beautiful sunsets. Spring water is abundant and everywhere! Private food steamers. Local people love Omori restaurant. Obama “champon” is very popular here. Champon is a delicious noodle dish with many ingredients such as seafood, pork, fish cake and vegetables. It was originally invented in Nagasaki city. Yoshicho restaurant is located on the main road, so it’s easy to find. They serve champion, too. The Obama History Museum includes a former Honda family residence. The family greatly contributed the development of the hot springs. This impressive gate was brought from Shimabara Castle, built in the 17th century. Each hotel has their own hot-spring source. This main source is for local residents, and the hot water goes to their bathrooms. My aunt’s house once received hot water for her bathroom from this source. One time, the Honda family maintained the town’s hot springs. Let’s take a look at their former family home. This building is the oldest wooden community center in Nagasaki prefecture. Below this building, you can see beautiful koi (carp) swimming in the fresh spring water. In Ishiai district, you can find a statue created by my uncle, who was a sculptor. There’s a parking lot next to the statue. Please stop by to see it if you get a chance. Chijiwa district has “Fortune Rocks” called “Fukuishi-sama.” Many years ago, a fisherman found a small rock shaped like the Ebisu god in his fishing net, and he placed it on top of the big rock. One day, a huge tsunami hit the area. When the wave took the god-like rock, the tsunami suddenly stopped. Now, locals call these rocks, “Fukuishi-sama.” When I go to Obama, this is the restaurant where I always stop to eat my champon noodle dish. Their champon is delicious! B set (¥980) has champon and fried rice. Mmmm, it looks great! Thank you very much for watching to the end. Please “like” and subscribe to my channel. See you next time! Sayonara!

Visit Obama Onsen, Obama Hot Spring in Nagasaki prefecture, Japan!
It’s the most heat-producing hot spring in Japan.
This video will tell you what to do and what to see in Obama.
Obama is a small hot spring town relatively unknown to foreign visitors. Major tourist places in Japan are currently suffering over-tourism but NOT in Obama. You can still enjoy quiet relaxing experiences.

Manabu
Heavenly indeed, Manabu! Thanks! 💙
