Chihaya Castle 2025

Today, I’m heading to Chihaya Castle in Osaka Prefecture. Chihaya Castle was built by the famous general, Kusunoki Masashige. First, I head south on the Nankai Koya Line. I get off at Kawachinagano Station. From the station, I take the Nankai Bus. I take the bus bound for Mount Kongo from platform 3. This area is home to the heroic tales of Kusunoki Masashige. Many people enjoy mountain climbing and hiking on Mount Kongo. I get off at the Kongo Trailhead. Chihaya Shrine now stands on the site of Chihaya Castle. After a short walk, I come across a steep staircase. There is an explanatory sign. The staircase appears to have about 560 steps. This is the first torii gate of Chihaya Shrine. Chihaya Castle is an impregnable mountain castle built in 1332. Kusunoki Masashige barricaded himself in Chihaya Castle and forced the retreat of the Kamakura Shogunate’s large army. This is a stone monument commemorating Kusunoki Masashige’s achievements. I can see the signboard at the Chihaya Castle ruins. It took about 15 minutes from the trailhead to get here. This is Chihaya Castle’s Ninomaru. Ninomaru is the largest enclosure of Chihaya Castle. This is the second torii gate of Chihaya Shrine. The enclosure continues to the back. This area is said to be the site of a former moat. At the top of these stairs is Sannomaru. We arrived at Chihaya Castle’s Sannomaru . There is a stone monument here. The Chihaya Shrine office is located here . This is the Ninomaru of Chihaya Castle. This is the Chozuya (water purification fountain) built in 1928. We pass through the third torii gate . Chihaya Shrine is located on the site of the Ninomaru . There is a young tree next to it that appears to be a sacred tree. Behind this is the Honmaru (main enclosure), but it is off-limits. We try approaching the Honmaru from another path. We have arrived at the back of Chihaya Shrine. The original Honmaru (main enclosure) is above here, but it is also off-limits. On the way back, we also visit the small shrine of Chihaya Shrine in Sannomaru. We return via the back approach. This route is relatively gentler. We came out onto a paved forest road. We could see the “Yama no Tofu” shop. There was also a 100 Famous Castles stamp at the “Yama no Tofu” shop. Thank you for watching.
