道の駅さかい・地元産コシヒカリを使ったせんべいが美味い!【S660ドライブ】

Alright, let’s head out. Departing through a narrow exit. Leaving Michi-no-Eki Rennyonosato Awara. Michi-no-Eki Rennyonosato Awara has only been open for about two years. The displays are well arranged, making the products easy to see. There’s a great selection of local specialties. It’s mid-June right now, and they had plenty of fruits like melons and watermelons. It’s one of my top recommended roadside stations in Fukui. It could easily rank among the best in the prefecture. The melon smoothie was absolutely delicious. I’d love to come back to Awara just to eat melon again. The next roadside station is… the northernmost one in Fukui Prefecture. From here, we’ll head south through Fukui. On the right, you can see Lake Kitagata. We’re driving along the eastern side of Lake Kitagata. You can even see the windmills we spotted from our lodging. This area has a dedicated cycling navigation line. Cycling all the way around Lake Kitagata looks like a great idea. If you’re a cyclist— Hey, there’s an S660! If you’re a cyclist, I recommend doing a full loop around Lake Kitagata. We’re now moving away from Lake Kitagata. We’ve left the lakeside road. Now driving along Prefectural Route 29. There wasn’t even a convenience store near where we stayed. The Lake Kitagata area is a place to enjoy untouched nature. Instead, you get to spend a relaxing time surrounded by nature. It’s perfect when you want to take it slow. If you’re looking for value for money, the lodging is recommended. This was my first roadside station trip with an overnight stay. I booked a dinner-inclusive plan, but when touring roadside stations, I tend to eat a lot. I was already full. Even though dinner was served at the inn, I couldn’t finish everything. I felt bad about it. When doing roadside station tours, you eat at each stop, so I think a room-only plan is best. Without dinner included, it was about 4,500 yen cheaper. No dinner makes it cheaper, of course. If you just book lodging without meals, you can enjoy eating more things during your roadside station trip. Though it’s not always easy, buying dinner at a roadside station is one option. Depending on the time of day, there may be fewer items, or different things available. So I can’t say it’s always best to buy dinner at a roadside station. If you research the roadside station in advance, you could book a room-only stay and buy something delicious there to bring back to your lodging and make it your dinner. Younger people could probably finish it all, but… as you get older, your appetite tends to decrease. Meals at ryokan inns are usually very generous, so if you can’t finish all the food, a roadside station trip with a room-only stay is recommended. That’s the idea for those staying at inns. It’s often said that overnight car stays at roadside stations aren’t allowed, but if you quietly stay inside your car just to rest or nap, there shouldn’t be a problem—though I wouldn’t recommend it. Since I travel in an S660, sleeping in the car here is pretty much impossible. Our next roadside station is Sakai. It seems to be located in the town center. It’s a roadside station combined with a local products store. It’s still a roadside station, just located in town. We’re now heading toward the city area. The road continues with beautiful scenery. They weren’t selling rice at the time, so I couldn’t buy it whenever I wanted. I’m grateful to the farmers who grow the rice. The comfortable road continues, and I can see the sign for Michi-no-Eki Sakai. It’s about 1 km to the next roadside station, Sakai. This roadside station is in a busy commercial area. I’ve just visited Michi-no-Eki Sakai. They also have a local products shop, selling various vegetables from Fukui Prefecture. This time of year, the melons looked delicious. What I bought this time is crispy rice crackers made from Koshihikari rice grown in Sakai, Fukui. I couldn’t find any original products unique to this roadside station. But since these crackers use locally grown rice, I decided to buy them and enjoy them at home. So, I visited Michi-no-Eki Sakai in Fukui Prefecture. I couldn’t find any exclusive products, but when I went to the local products shop, I bought crispy rice crackers made from Fukui-grown Koshihikari rice. Let’s give them a try. This is what the crispy rice crackers look like. Alright, let’s taste them. They have a soy sauce flavor that pairs perfectly with rice. I think they’d be great as a snack or with drinks. Since they’re made with Fukui-grown Koshihikari rice, you can enjoy them with confidence. The texture of the rice is really enjoyable—very nice. Since these crackers are made with local rice, be sure to try them when you visit Sakai. Alright, let’s head to the next roadside station.
