Hello! This is Hozuki. This travelogue is about a two-day, one-night trip to Wakayama Prefecture! This time, I’m staying at Oedo Onsen Monogatari TAOYA Nachikatsuura , a hotel in Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture! Nachikatsuura, where TAOYA Nachikatsuura is located, is about a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Osaka. The train ride from Osaka to Kii-Katsuura Station takes just under four hours. A shuttle service is available from Kii-Katsuura Station (reservations required; one-way fare: 140 yen). This is a new TAOYA brand hotel, rebranded on June 29, 2025! TAOYA Nachikatsuura offers amazing views and service! It ‘s all-inclusive, so you can enjoy table tennis and karaoke, have drinks in the lounge, and even a late-night snack! The baths and hot springs offer a stunning view with the scent of sulfur! For dinner, we had fresh tuna from Nachikatsuura and other delicious Wakayama delicacies! The tuna was absolutely amazing! Sashimi, sushi, grilled tuna! Overflowing sushi, tuna amuse-bouche, Kumano beef hamburger! Breakfast was also substantial! The seafood bowl was absolutely delicious! Depending on the date and plan, the price is just over 16,000 yen per person! (As of July 2025) This time, I hope to share the charms of TAOYA Nachikatsuura, Wakayama Prefecture, and Nachikatsuura Town. Thank you for your continued support! First, I took the Kinki Expressway… then the Hanwa Expressway towards Shirahama! I got off at Nanki Tanabe IC… and arrived at Kura Sushi Tanabe! I came here to get a limited edition plate! Lol. So, off to Nachikatsuura! The weather was amazing! Perfect for traveling! …But it was hot. This is an inn I’ve stayed at before, back when it was “Echinoyu”! I went through a tunnel that looked like it came out of Spirited Away… and arrived at TAOYA Nachikatsuura! Oh, a stone lantern and the TAOYA sign! The garden is lovely too (there’s a foot bath, but it’s too hot…) So, let’s head to check in! The front desk has a lovely feel to it. It’s luxurious! The ocean is right behind the front desk! This is lovely! This is the lounge. Chairs are set up on the side with a view of the ocean. The lounge is spacious! The lounge stretches all the way to the back! There’s a Phalaenopsis orchid to celebrate the reopening. This is the accommodation building! (There’s also a wooden building on the other side.) There’s a huge selection of colorful yukatas! It’s nice! Next, we head to the lounge. Let’s relax before going to our room. There ‘s alcohol, snacks, coffee, tea, and soft drinks! The snacks are quite extensive! They also have plum wine, shochu, and gin! I think I’ll have a beer for now! (It was Super Dry) My partner had plum wine! We also got nuts, dried fruit, and kakinotane! So… let’s toast with beer while looking at the beautiful view! Great! Nuts and alcohol. It’s already so much fun! Lol Why do beer and nuts go so well together… And then they brought us another glass of white wine! Lol We’re drinking right after we’ve arrived…so much fun! Lol, you can see Hotel Urashima in the background ! What a beautiful view! So, it’s time to head to our room! First, the colorful yukata! The LL size doesn’t have much of a pattern! Lol. My partner’s is a refreshing white. Nice! Now, let’s head to our room! This time, unusually (or maybe for the first time?), we have a room on the first floor! The building on the left is the front desk, and the building on the right is the wooden building. Oh, there’s the large bath, Sanzan no Yu! This is the women’s bath. We go through the hot spring to our room. The key is the old-fashioned type. [Non-smoking] Economy Twin Room with Indoor Bath . It’s quite spacious for an economy twin! Yay! Let’s take a look at the view! Wow, you can see the garden and the ocean! What a beautiful view! There are a lot of Japanese-style rooms, so a twin room is a blessing! (I like beds.) The TV is quite large and positioned for easy viewing! The room is bright when you open the curtains! It’s great! There’s even a space here where you can drink in your room! There’s a Sharp humidifier/air purifier. Nice. The refrigerator is under the TV. It was a regular size. There was also a mirror (upper level), a safe, tea, cups, and water here! Next was the bathroom. First up was the washroom! It was compact but easy to use and clean! There were paper towels and a hairdryer! Toothbrushes were set out on the sink. Next was the bathroom! It had been nicely renovated. The bath was quite spacious! And to my surprise, the bath in the room also had hot spring water! Next was the toilet. It had a nice washlet. That’s nice! In the closet there was a basket for the hot spring, as well as an obi and towels! Deodorants and haori were also here! Yes, it’s a very nice room! Yay! After a short rest in the room, we set off to explore the hotel! There was a massage chair near our room! That’s great! And it looks like there’s a hot stone bath too! There were towels and wear for the hot stone bath! The hot stone bath is divided into designated areas and you have to make a reservation. There are 10 spaces, which is great! And here is the cooling room. It ‘s a spacious room, and it looks very cool and comfortable! There’s also a post-bath lounge near the women’s bath! My partner started eating ice cream for some reason (lol). It was delicious, but I prefer it after a bath…lol. So let’s explore the second floor! Oh, there are lots of manga comics. Great! It also seems they have table tennis and karaoke! First up is the table tennis corner! This one also has a name written on a piece of paper. I tried it out! It was fun! lol. Next is the karaoke corner! It’s free to use until 7pm! (My partner is singing away…) And there’s also a kids’ room! There’s also a vending machine corner, so it’s handy in case of an emergency! Now let’s move to the front building! It’s great that the ocean is so close! There’s even a hot spring in the wooden building! Let’s go! The ocean terrace. It looks like it would be nice in the cooler months! (Right now…) But the sky and the sea are beautiful! You can get a great view of Hotel Urashima! lol. There’s also a foot bath in the front building! Towels are available for free rental, and of course there’s a hot spring here too! You can enjoy a foot bath while looking at a view like this. Great! It seems you can get udon noodles for dinner in the lounge! And this is the shop. Kagero is a Wakayama specialty. Speaking of Nachikatsuura, it’s tuna! Looking forward to dinner! Nachikatsuura’s black candy, Nachikuro, and mandarin oranges! They also have plenty of soft drinks and alcohol! Now, let’s head to the bath! First, we head to the wooden building. As soon as we enter the wooden building, we find the open-air bath, Nami no Yu! There are two entrances, but at this time, it’s all men’s! (Note) We were given special permission to take photos inside! Opening the sliding door, we find… a really lovely hot spring! And the smell of sulfur! There’s an abundance of hot spring water, and the ocean is right there! The Japanese feel is wonderful. The spacious hot spring with a sense of openness is amazing! Next, we head to the large bath closest to our room! We’ll enjoy Shiosai no Yu! (Men and women switch between the morning and evening baths.) Once inside, there’s a very spacious changing room! Towels are available for unlimited use! There are plenty of lockers, so you can relax and unwind! The hot spring is covered in tatami mats! That’s nice, too! Beyond the tatami mats is the garden open-air bath! It’s spacious! The spring quality is sulfur-containing, sodium, calcium, and chloride hot spring water! The indoor bath is also a rock bath! There is a large amount of hot water and the smell of sulfur. When you go outside, the sea is right there! The smell of the sea and the sound of the waves are unique to the seaside. This might be my favorite hot spring! It’s amazing to bathe in the hot spring while looking outside and feeling the ocean! The shower head in the washing area is also by Refa. Of course, there is also a sauna and a cold bath, and after sweating in the sauna… it’s nice to relax in the cold bath! The garden in the hallway on the way back is also beautiful! After a short rest in the room, it’s time for the long-awaited dinner! Woohoo! We take the elevator to the second floor of the main building. (The manager is guiding us.) When we get off the elevator, we arrive at the restaurant “Nagi”! We were given special advance photo shoot permission! Wow. The atmosphere is amazing! First, drinks! Alcohol is all-you-can-drink! They have everything from beer and highballs to wine and shochu! They also have barley and potato shochu, as well as local sake and plum wine! They also have hot and cold sake! Amazing! Next, the food! Local amuse-bouche. There’s tuna liver pate, tuna with white sesame sauce, and here’s tuna with yuba dressing. This is a combination of prosciutto and white peach! This is grilled rare tuna cuts! This is probably tuna cheek meat, and this is probably tuna head meat! Green onions, shishito peppers, yuzu pepper, ponzu sauce, etc. And here’s mapo tofu. It smells great! (It also has sansho pepper.) This is yakisoba! The garlic sprouts are great! And freshly steamed xiaolongbao. Wow. This is chawanmushi with Nankou plums. The plums are huge! Wakayama ramen! I have to have this to finish off the meal. It also comes with bamboo shoots, green onions, and roasted pork! Perfect! Here’s root vegetable miso soup. Looks healthy! Beef curry! Definitely delicious. This is rice cooked with boiled whitebait! Looks delicious! Not chicken nanban, but tuna nanban! A local dish! Osushi! We have the famous Sanma sushi roll and Mehari sushi. We also have California rolls with salmon and tuna! Then we have marinated mackerel sushi… trout salmon sushi, squid sushi, and steamed shrimp sushi. And raw tuna overflowing tekka maki! Amazing! Isn’t it overflowing a little too much? LOL. A comparison of tuna sushi! Albacore and yellowfin tuna! And straw-grilled tuna! This is also absolutely delicious! Ah, the fragrant aroma is amazing! Next up is salmon sashimi! Wow. And sweet shrimp! Looks delicious! This is raw tuna sashimi! There are lots of different parts! This is tempura. Freshly fried sweet potato! There are more lotus root tempura too! Here is red shrimp and garlic shrimp! It looks like it would go well with alcohol! And then there’s kushiage. Pork cutlet skewers and this one with quail’s egg! Definitely delicious! Sauces and tartar sauce were prepared! Pasta! Ripe tomato and eggplant arrabiata, and truffle carbonara! So luxurious! And Kumano beef pizza! Looks delicious! This is a whitebait Japanese-style pizza. I want to eat it now! Lol. And these are the fried foods! There was fried chicken, spring rolls, and natural cut potatoes! And a seafood salad! Loaded with seafood! There was also potato salad, macaroni salad, Chinese vermicelli salad, and cod roe taramosalata! And this is the salad bar. Onions, corn, cucumber, seaweed, red radish, and more. There are four types of dressing and a wide variety of toppings! This is Kumano beef hamburger Rossini style! And green curry. Looks delicious. This is seafood bouillabaisse. The amount of shrimp is incredible! And this is minestrone. So good! And dessert! Mango, grapefruit, pineapple, lychee, warabi mochi, almond tofu, and chocolate pudding. There were brownies, baked cheese, and shortcake with strawberry sauce. There was also strawberry and mandarin gelato from Wakayama! Wow, this is delicious. And sour drinks! We had Unshu mandarins and white peaches. Of course, there was also all-you-can-drink soft drinks! Three kinds of panna cotta! Yuzu jelly, blue sky jelly, grape jelly, and Arita mandarin pudding! And plum and kudzu buns! Looks delicious! They even grilled the Kumano beef hamburger steak from earlier! *The store opened shortly after this. The meats were lined up. It looked delicious. Oh! So tasty! What a sear…it’s amazing! And then they grilled the grafois (chicken liver)! This is also delicious! It would definitely taste good if they put something like that on it … thank you! It looks so delicious… this is definitely delicious! I can’t wait to eat it! Lol Now, let’s grab our trays and plates and head out! First, we had salads, seafood salad, mentaiko taramosalata, and Kumano beef pizza! We had a lot of garlic shrimp, which we had been eyeing! Lol, we had tuna seaweed tempura, which we hadn’t had before! Looks delicious! It’s tuna with sake kasu grated daikon radish! Looks delicious! This is also new! Hairtail tempura! Shiitake mushroom tempura from Wakayama! Looks delicious! We also got tuna with sake kasu dressing! We’ll have prosciutto and white peach too. The tuna looks delicious! We have to have salmon too! We’ve been curious about the tuna straw-grilled! We have to have the tuna overflowing tekkamaki ! And salmon in a California roll! We also want to try tuna nanban ! Finally, we had a hamburger steak! Maybe with truffle sauce! Drinks! We can actually drink local beer! That’s great! (Excited) My partner looked like this. There’s plenty of tuna, which is great! Hozuki’s Choice ~ Seafood Festival (mainly tuna) is now on ~ First up is a fresh salad, followed by garlic shrimp to go with the drinks! Kumano beef pizza, taramosalata, seafood salad, tuna with sake kasu, tuna nanban, and three kinds of tempura. A satisfying seafood plate of sushi and sashimi, followed by a dessert? A prosciutto and white peach combination. It’s fun to compare the different tuna, and the Rossini-style Kumano beef hamburger also looks delicious! I think I’ll dine like this! First, we’ll pour ourselves a local beer, Kumano Kodo… with a local beer… and toast . It’s very refreshing, like a rice beer! The view is beautiful too! (Hotel Urashima-san view) Let’s start with the veggie first. The vegetables are delicious. This hamburger is so good! The gravy is amazing! Continuing the Kumano beef theme, pizza! This is also flavorful! Delicious! I can’t stop drinking beer! Wow! I’m going to eat some albacore tuna! It’s sticky and delicious! Raw tuna is delicious after all! I also like yellowfin tuna! Whitebait pizza is good too! Seafood bouillabaisse is also good! Let’s grill some rare cuts of tuna! It’s almost like meat! Amazing! And then I went all out and put tuna on whitebait rice! And finally, a frozen highball! Wow! Hozuki’s Choice – Savoring the bounty of the sea, of course – First up is the miraculous combination of tuna and whitebait rice! The bouillabaisse is also delicious. Then we have whitebait pizza, quail skewers, tuna with white sesame sauce, and tuna liver pate! The rare tuna cuts look incredibly tasty! A freezing highball! Ice cold! I’d like to enjoy them like this! First, cheers. Alcohol is delicious. Let’s light the stove! Fire. Then we add the rare tuna cuts! (With separate chopsticks) We place them all together! After taking a short rest in my room, I think I’ll enjoy a bath and a midnight snack! First, I’ll enjoy another bath! Then I’ll enjoy a massage! Lol, after the bath, I need to have a midnight snack! Since it’s plum udon (obligatory) , I need to drink plum wine… (?) While I was thinking about this, I received a message that it was ready! Wow. This is the perfect thing to eat at night! There is also a washing area in the open-air bath, which is easy to use! After the bath, it’s time for the long-awaited breakfast! Woosh, whistle , whistle! After the bath, it’s time for the long-awaited breakfast! Woosh, whistle, whistle! First, the salad corner! The hollandaise sauce and egg go so well together! Next, the seafood bowl! Again, crumble the egg! The egg and tuna mix together…so delicious! The sea bream dashi chazuke is back! Mix in the chopped plums… the dashi aroma is amazing and the flavor is clear! Yummy! Finally, pineapple and yogurt to soothe the stomach! Ooooooh. It was a wonderful breakfast. The crema coffee was delicious. The breakfast buffet was also delicious! We ate everything we could at TAOYA Nachikatsuura! Thank you for the meal! Well, it’s time to depart! TAOYA Nachikatsuura was a wonderful inn! The price was only ¥16,420 per person for one night with two meals! (Since we booked through the official website, we got a ¥500 discount per person.) It was all-inclusive, and the hot springs were amazing! They also had karaoke and a lounge, and the food was delicious! TAOYA Nachikatsuura is an inn I’d definitely like to return to! On the way back, we went to Manguchi in Kushimoto Town! We enjoyed their famous katsu ochazuke! You’ll be amazed by the bonito there! 1.
