Hi everyone, I’m Uncle 9. This time, I’d like to share two episodes of my trip to Tokushima. This episode will focus on the food, and in the next, I’ll share some fun attractions . Enough of the rambling, let’s go! As soon as we arrived, we immediately rushed to see a live Awa Odori performance! As a symbol of Tokushima’s culture, the ultimate fulfillment is undoubtedly attending the Tokushima Awa Odori Festival, held every August. But as the saying goes, few things in this world are truly perfect. Most people, like… Uncle 9, a low-ranking office worker, wants to take some summer off, but why would it be my turn ? If you’re like me and time constraints aren’t an option, you can enjoy the 400-year-old Awa Odori at the Awa Odori Hall, open year-round. Enjoy a troupe’s performance up close from the handshake booths. While it’s not as lively and grand as the Awa Odori, it feels more like a warm, family-style performance . Experienced dancers will even teach you a few tricks, so you don’t just sit and watch; you can learn a few and share your personal experiences. I think it was a truly enjoyable experience. At least they performed different variations of the Awa Odori. There’s no set formula. The final section briefly introduces the history, doesn’t change to a restroom, and even includes instrumental solos. The choreography is incredibly rich, and the most fun part is inviting the entire audience to join in the dance. It’s truly fun ! Since you’re here, why not try everything? Don’t think Uncle 9 isn’t talented! After all, it was a rave party. After the “Fluorescent Dance King” dance, there was an awards ceremony, with souvenirs given to those who performed exceptionally well . I danced so well, and I’m so ignorant not to be chosen. I saw my sister twisting her body as she returned to her seat, and she was so twirling! The final act was the highlight of the show. This wild, high-speed, and intense performance was the climax of the whole crowd . I couldn’t believe how many variations there were in the Awa Dance, which only had a few moves. I clapped my hands so hard just watching it! I highly recommend everyone to come and experience it. There’s also a small Awa Dance Museum to visit . It
‘s all routine: an introduction to the history of the Awa Dance and an exhibition of traditional Awa Dance costumes and instruments. I think it’s more engaging to enter after you’ve seen it all . It’s hard to say what’s special about this , but there’s an interactive electronic area where you can practice your set dance before the show or play the instrumental version of the Awa Dance, “Taiko no Tatsujin,” and jam with friends. Don’t rush out afterward, because there’s more to do. From the fifth floor of the venue, you can take the Bizan Cable Car up the mountain for a panoramic view . A short six-minute ride takes you to the summit, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Tokushima plains . After I saw it, nothing was there. It rained that day, transforming it into a romantic, drizzly scene. My mood, like the scenery, wasn’t completely lacking. The observation deck is where Yokozuna Hakuhosho met his wife, so it’s become a lover’s paradise. There’s even a bell inside the observation room for everyone to ring, which is a good place to take in the photos. I originally planned this spot for a photo op, but unfortunately, the weather wasn’t as good as expected. If the weather cooperates, I recommend going up the mountain to enjoy the view . The weather was so bad that you couldn’t even see Awaji Island, and you could barely see the city. It’s also worth mentioning that the cafe where the view was held was collaborating with “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” to become the Demon Slayer Cafe . Uncle Jiu tried hard to get it, but the owner declined to film it, so I can’t share any photos. When planning a trip to Tokushima, it’s best to plan ahead, otherwise, like me, I’ll end up writing this miserable sentence. Finally, I want to mention that the product and tourism exchange plaza on the first floor of the hall is the largest and most comprehensive of the souvenir shops Uncle Jiu visited this trip. Did you buy any of these? These male group members are very clever. They bought an indigo-dyed scarf for their wives at the first stop. They have a strong will to live. Uncle 9 bought this two-in-one fish sauce and seaweed with a bottle of wine. It’s quite good and recommended . I routinely bought this concentrated yuzu juice. This is ordinary . I also bought this paperweight because each one is different, which I think is quite special. Another recommendation is the local famous shop Dragon’s Biscuits, which is hidden deep in the mountains.
Their signature mochi biscuits are delicious. I think the sesame flavor is the most delicious. In summary, this restaurant has dance, scenery, and things to buy all in one place . The CP value is quite high and recommended. Recommended. Next stop, I want to share a long queue at a restaurant with a sea view. I tried Naruto sea bream grown in the whirlpools of the Naruto Strait. I arrived at the restaurant on a weekday at noon and it was packed with locals. This restaurant is most famous for its sea bream ramen . If you want to try the whole sea bream, I recommend ordering the sea bream meal. Try sea bream sushi, sashimi, fried fish, kamameshi, and ramen all at once . It’s not a small matter. Lin Zun Toshi, ordering half a meal is more than enough. I personally think the sashimi is delicious because the meat is thick and firm, which is very different from the sea bream you usually eat. The signature sea bream salt ramen is a pleasant surprise. The white soup made with sea bream is creamy , but the overall richness is sweet and not greasy. Paired with the thin noodles with less water, it has a crisp texture. The fried sea bream skin is crispy and the seasoning is just right. It’s delicious . This restaurant also has a branch near Tokushima Station . The advantage of this restaurant is that when you are half full, you can walk out to see the sea and enjoy the sea breeze to help digestion. But a warm reminder, this restaurant is often full. Remember to make reservations in advance through Line (you can find it on the official website). If you are traveling by car, remember to reserve a parking space as there are only three to four parking spaces . Uncle 9 then went to the nearby Sifangjian Observation Deck to enjoy the view. You don’t have to stand there in the scorching sun. There is a French dessert shop next to the observatory. Monster Cafe is a place where you can enjoy a cup of tea and slowly admire the scenery. One of its selling points is its 180-degree viewing terrace, where you can comfortably sip coffee and take in any photos you like. For a truly breathtaking view, go up one floor to the 360-degree rooftop terrace and take in the stunning scenery of the Kii Strait, the Onuruto Bridge, Awaji Island, and Shodoshima Island in the Seto Inland Sea. As for snacks, I tried the Awa chicken cheese sandwich and pudding. The sandwich was already cold because it was only hanging for photos. The pudding had a fragrant egg flavor and a smooth texture , but the most memorable thing was the delicious Awabancha. I also recommend the Naruto Second Button tea, which uses pure rice Daiginjo lees cheese from a local sake brewery, and Wasanbon. Sugar-based butter cookies are a snack for JAL domestic first-class passengers , and each box has a different button. Buy one as a souvenir . There’s no reason to miss the signature Awabe chicken when you’re in Tokushima. Uncle Nine chose Yihong for a simple reason : the photo of the grilled chicken drumsticks at the entrance was a draw. The interior design is a typical restaurant layout, focusing on bone-in roasted chicken drumsticks , with both tender and aged options . As a foodie, I ordered them all . This restaurant prepares Awabe chicken in many ways: roasted, deep-fried, steamed, or boiled, there’s always something to suit. This one’s hot! This is the signature bone-in roasted Awabe chicken drumstick, 1,600 yen per drumstick. It’s not cheap , but it’s truly enormous , twice the size of what you’d find in Hong Kong. The skin is crispy, the meat is tender, and this one’s good! What do you think? Oh, it’s delicious. Anyway, keep going, Auntie Xia . Who is
this extra ? The skin is crispy and juicy. You can see how inhumane these human scum are. I only took one bite, and only the bone was left. What does that mean? You see I even eat the bones, so I know it’s good stuff. Uncle 9 likes the peppery seasoning. It’s very fragrant. The chicken skin is crispy and the meat is tender. The meat is rich and chewy, but don’t expect it to be juicy. The boss happened to be visiting the shop that day, and Uncle 9 also wanted to know if there was any secret recipe he could learn from. The owner said it was nothing special, just grilled in a boiler under high pressure. The conclusion was that the chicken was high quality , and the chef had perfect control of the heat. It was perfect when eaten at the right time . As for the aged chicken, it was a bit like a firmer version of confit duck liver . The aroma of the oil permeated the chicken, adding a salty flavor, making it a perfect pairing with wine. The other dishes were also quite
good, with the salads and sashimi being generous portions and a good value . Uncle 9 particularly loved the Nanban Awabi chicken, which was delicious, but the half-roasted chicken thigh was just average. The meat was tough and tough, tougher than my life. I’ve eaten chewing gum. By the way, Yihong also has a branch near Tokushima Station. The main location is right in the heart of Tokushima’s nightlife hotspot , hidden among the narrow streets and alleys. There are many popular shops known only to locals , and the streets have a Showa-era feel. If you want to experience the locals’ shifting culture, try a few. Remember to leave room , or take a stroll afterward. Finally, I want to mention that our hotel tonight, Tokushima Sunroute , is located directly across from JR Tokushima Station, making it a convenient walk. I didn’t choose Yamato across the street or THE GRAND, which is located above the station. The biggest attraction at PALACE is the hot springs. The third floor is the lobby, and there’s a natural hot spring on the eleventh floor . This is the hot spring , but photography isn’t allowed, so I can’t show you any photos. The other facilities aren’t much to say. The rooms are typical business hotel-style, so I’ll take a look at them. They’re very standard, old-fashioned business rooms with plenty of space for luggage. Across the street is Muji and Tokushima Mitsukoshi Department Store.
Across from Tokushima Station is Clement Plaza, where you can go shopping. The restrooms reminded me of the student dorms I lived in long ago when I was studying. They’re exactly the same , so you don’t have to worry about having too much money to spend . There’s a 24-hour FamilyMart downstairs, which is quite large . If you want a late-night snack but don’t want to go to a convenience store, a local friend recommended this place: Noodle King Hotel, just across the street.
It’s almost full around 11 a.m. on weekdays, so it’s quite popular. I ordered the Noodle King Special, which comes with everything. Uncle 9 thought the soup was a bit special. It was described as a pork bone soy sauce soup , but it had the sweetness of sukiyaki broth. Although the soup was quite thick , it was because of this sweetness that it made me more and more appetizing. I could finish the whole bowl without feeling greasy. I could also ask the waiter for a raw egg like I would with sukiyaki. The noodles were crispy and chewy , without too much soup. It was exactly what I liked. The ingredients were very rich, including seaweed, beef, egg, bamboo shoots , and pork belly. All of them were above standard
, especially the sukiyaki beef, which was a bit surprising. There was also free unlimited spicy bean sprouts. I personally think bean sprouts The food could be a little spicier. After finishing my meal, I realized
they also had black pepper, chili, and seaweed options. I’ll have to try that next time. That’s all for this episode. I don’t know if you’ve heard of “Uncle 9 is better than building a seven-story pagoda.” Just press a button and you ‘ll be rewarded . Thanks, donor. Next episode, I want to share about the Otsuka Museum of Art, which has plenty of check-in spots . You don’t have to easily check in with the Mona Lisa like at the Louvre . Then, you can’t miss the Naruto Whirlpool, one of the world’s three major whirlpools, at the popular Cat Temple , which has tripled in popularity in recent years and is guarded by three cat abbots. See you in the next episode. Bye. Remember to subscribe.
