Futatsuya, Abandoned Village in Imajo, Minami Echizen, Fukui [4K Binaural]

This video captures a walk in Futatsuya Juku (二ツ屋宿), an abandoned post town deep in the mountains of Minami Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, filmed in June 2025.

Futatsuya lies along the historic Hokuriku Kaidō (北陸街道), a major Edo-period travel route connecting Kyoto to the Hokuriku region. The village once served as a checkpoint (sekisho) controlling travel through this mountainous passage and likely flourished due to its strategic location. Over time, as road networks changed and transportation modernized, the village became isolated and eventually depopulated.

Today, Futatsuya is quietly disappearing into the forest. Some stone walls, remnants of old houses, and a solemn atmosphere remain, offering a glimpse into the region’s forgotten past.
