Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture 450th anniversary of the birth of Magobei Shigeyoshi Kawamura 102nd Ishinomaki River Opening Festival 2025.
Expressing gratitude for flood control projects and wishing for reconstruction. At the end of the Kamakura period, Prince Moriyoshi achieved great success in overthrowing the Kamakura Shogunate during the Hōgen Rebellion, and was appointed Seii Taishogun (Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Expeditionary Forces) during the Kenmu Restoration.
However, he did not get along with Ashikaga Takauji, was dismissed from his position as Seii Taishogun, and was imprisoned in Kamakura. Later, when Hojo ordered the assassination of Prince Moriyoshi, Iga no Kami Yoshihiro deceived Hojo and advised him to secretly go to Oshu, where he still had influence, and arrived in Ishinomaki.
(In historical accounts, he died in Kamakura.) He built a temporary palace on this land and observed the situation, but passed away 11 years later.
The Imperial Palace is said to be his mausoleum. He is generally considered to be the third son of Emperor Go-Daigo, but there is a theory that he was the first son, and it is believed that the name “Ichinomiya”
comes from this. Despite the history of this shrine’s mikoshi, it is not solemn, but rather a lively mikoshi carried by the people of the beach. ちょっと変わった名前のお祭りです。
日本4番目の規模で、東北地方最大の河川「北上川」。
河川を利用した舟運も盛んであった一方、近年まで多大な水害をもたらしていました。
石巻市中心にも北上川が流れ（旧河口）、仙台藩・南部藩政以前は、治水も不十分で、何度も繰り返し水害を受けていました。
根本的な改修は近年の、追波湾への河口付け替えによるものですが、仙台藩政時にも、利水・治水含めた大規模整備事業が行われています。
その指揮を取ったのが、長門国阿武郡より仙台藩に仕えることになった「川村孫兵衛重吉」です。
慶長三陸地震により、疲弊した状態であったこの地を開拓し、仙台藩の石高を大いに向上させ、舟運拠点としての石巻発展にも繋がりました。
結果、全国十六津に数えられ、奥州随一の湊と称されたそうです。
（その裏では、支倉常長が海外交易確立の為に旅立っています）
この川村孫兵衛重吉扇に対する、報恩感謝のお祭りが「石巻川開き祭り」です。
また、ご先祖様の供養のお祭りを祖とするため、報恩感謝祭や供養祭などの祭典行事が厳粛にとり行われます。
