[Music] The Evening light was soft and bright. You look at me, the world felt right. Walking slow, no words to say, but I feel clear. We’re on the way. [Music] There are many charms in the countryside of Japan. Those are not really known by tourists yet. You will feel the nature, fresh air, delicious water, food, and warm connections with local people. The 47 prefixures have different geographical characteristics, history, culture, and industries. and have achieved distinct development. I was born and grow up here, Gehu Prefecture where is located the middle of Japan. We have a lot of tourist attractions where you can feel the history and traditional culture of Japan. [Music] For example, Geo Prefecture is associated with many historical figures, especially Odanaga during the Sangok period. If you like Japanese history, this is a place for you. During summer, there are fun things you can experience such as eating sweet fish, fireworks, and watching karan fishing. And the middle of August we have a holiday which is originally welcome the spirit of our ancestors into our home. So I spend a lot more time in my hometown rather than cities. I’m pretty sure that you will miss some amazing sceneries and experiences in countryside during summer. In today’s video, I would like to introduce you to the undiscovered Mino city in Gefu Prefecture. Mino city is a town where traditional culture is kept such as preserved and historical landscapes. In the middle of the city, it remains many traditional buildings built in the Edo period. During the time the demand for shouji paper soared that made town flourished with Japanese paper [Music] in Mino area the quality of cyprress which is the raw material for paper and the water was suitable for making paper. Making paper has a long history dating back more than 3000 years. The former Im family residence is the largest merchant who used to be the village hipman and paper wholesaler. This place is now open to the public as museum. When you enter, you could find a space with memo books and an abacus. This space used to be a cashing room. There was an old hearth here and the ceiling is high to allow the smoke to escape. [Music] It’s now renovated to take in natural lighting. [Music] Shoji, a paper slide door is a traditional Japanese joinery with a long history. This metal of pasting shoe is called chidori. In the past, handmade Japanese paper was made small. So the seam between paper was place shifted to enjoy the design. You can see the beautiful coryard and rooms connected to the back. [Music] [Music] Let me try sukin kutsu which means water hop cave. It has been certified as one of the 100 Japanese sound escapes selected by the environment agency. Can you hear the sound? The water that fell from the hole echoed in the bottle and the cool sand of the falling water per my heart. [Music] You can experience the lifestyle and the culture of this era. [Music] It is still relatively unknown to tourists, so you can experience its history at a leisurely piece. [Music] This middle area is called Udatu Rising Tscape. [Music] You will know what’s the uratu from the storehouse. [Music] Udatu refers to a fire wall made at the both end of the roof to prevent fire. In order for wealthy merchants to show off their wealth, they set up udatu to compete with each other. [Music] If you look around the city, you will see many different types of udatu. I will introduce two Japanese paper shops you should stop by when you come to Mino City. This is Nishindo founded in 1910. It is a shop of Japanese paper and Japanese paper products. It has a wide selection of dye mino washi paper whose colors are left to the craftsman. The owner purchase any finish thereby keeping co down and offering the paper to customers at a good price. Mino paper is characterized by being strong and durable while having a soft texture. For this reason, it is also used to make shoe screens, folding fans, and umbrellas. If you haven’t got any of these, you should got one while traveling Japan. We call it Joe in Japanese. We use it like notebook to collect gouing which is a seal or ink written on the spot as a proof of visiting shrines or temples. There are so many different Japanese pattern that is hard to choose. Furthermore, for those who want to make their own craft or original items, colorful washi paper is recommended. It will be cute to use it for gift wrapping or as a book cover. It’s my favorite shop, so please go and check it out. They produce and sell residental light links using Japanese paper. When light shines through the paper, the beautiful design of the paper stands out even more. There are various design available and most of they are matched not only Japanese style rooms but also other styles. Pass on the traditional technology of lanterns to the present and see the beauty of the lights through Japanese paper. Finally, I’d like to introduce a shaved eye shop that is very popular among locals. [Music] This is Sio Gori which opened in 2021 by renting a hotel lounge. [Music] The interior of the hotel which has been renovated from an old private house has a somewhat nostalgic and calm atmosphere. The menu changed weekly. Today I order shaved ice made with rip plums from Yamanashi Prefecture. The shaved ice with fluffy texture change the state of the ice depending on the temperature and humidity. Homemade unheated syrup made with fresh fruit attracts many local fans to enjoy the original taste of the fruit. [Music] It look panakakota inside. If you go on a weekend, I recommend making a reservation in advance. [Music] Would you like to visit charming Mino City? There are still many fascinating cities in Japan that are undiscovered. Thank you for watching. Bye for now. [Music]
