【上越国境越え】高速道路を使わないと何分かかるの?実際に走ってみた!

Every driver has probably wondered at least once: Should I take the highway or the local roads? This is the Traffic Verification Channel (subtitles recommended) . This time, we’re conducting a real-life investigation into how long it would take to travel without expressway tolls . The section runs from Echigo-Yuzawa Interchange in Niigata Prefecture to Minakami Interchange in Gunma Prefecture. Using the Kan’etsu Expressway, the journey takes approximately 17 minutes , and the expressway’s ETC toll is 870 yen . We’ll start right away and investigate how long it would take to bypass the Kan’etsu Tunnel and take National Route 17 via the Shin-Mikuni Tunnel at Mikuni Pass . We start at the Yuzawa Interchange entrance. Continue on National Route 17 toward Mikuni Pass . From here, you’ll need to be mindful of the continuous curves and elevation changes in the mountainous area. From here, the road is a standard cross section of a single-lane national mountain highway. In the overtaking section, only the hiking lane curves gently to the right, crossing the JR Joetsu Line tracks . “On the map, it crosses the Joetsu Shinkansen. However, in reality, it passes over the Shin-Shimizu Tunnel. From here on, there are a series of sharp curves. A base for local tourism, a facility with toilets, rest areas, and information. “Pass Mitsumata Roadside Station! There are also a number of accommodation facilities. “On the right is the Mitsumata Ropeway station. It is bustling in winter. A covered road structure to protect against avalanches, falling snow, and blizzards. There are snow sheds, permanent facilities for maintenance and safety. As you gain altitude towards the prefectural border, the curves become denser. On the Niigata side, there is a series of sharp curves . This is the gateway to a large ski area. “Pass near Kagura Ski Resort Tashiro Station. “The large building on the right is Naeba Prince Hotel!” A landmark accommodation in the Naeba area, near Naeba Ski Resort At the end of the journey , accommodation and resort condominiums line the road. “From here, we enter the Shin-Mikuni Tunnel!” This is a major tunnel that crosses the prefectural border on National Route 17. Compared to the old road, the road alignment has been improved, ensuring stable traffic year-round. Pass the prefectural border inside the tunnel and enter Gunma Prefecture . Speed management is important as the downhill slope begins . This is a complex section with both downhill and curves. This is a typical terrain where slowing down, primarily using the engine brake, is recommended. Passing the Shin-Mikuni Bridge . “From here, you’ll reach Sarugakyo Onsenkyo.” “You’ll run parallel to Lake Akatani on the right, alongside the lake. This is the fork in the road to a roadside station known for its experiential tourism . ” “Turn right at this traffic light and you’ll be heading towards Takumi no Sato Roadside Station. ” The road transitions from the mountains to the edge of the basin. The improved alignment has made the slope much gentler . “More houses along the road, giving it the feel of a residential road. ” “From National Route 17 to National Route 291, the final approach to Minakami, with the Joetsu Shinkansen elevated railway overhead. This is a composition that brings together major regional transportation routes.” The Joetsu Shinkansen passes in front of Jomo-Kogen Station, with a curve, and travels parallel to the Shinkansen, heading towards Niigata. Here, it passes overhead on the Kanetsu Expressway. Heading towards the Kamimaki Onsen area, the finish line is finally near. The next traffic light is the junction, the Minakami Interchange entrance. As you can see, the result was 66 minutes on the expressway, a 49-minute time difference , and a difference in wallet of 870 yen. In other words, 17.7 yen per minute . Converting this to an hourly wage, it works out to about 1,065 yen to buy time. If you think your hourly wage is over 1,100 yen, then head for the Kanetsu Expressway without hesitation. On the other hand, if you want to drive through the mountain pass, you can take the local roads. Buy just under an hour for 870 yen, or save 870 yen and enjoy the atmosphere of Mikuni Pass. The choice will depend on your sense of hourly wage and the purpose of your trip. In my personal opinion, the expressway is the only option in the middle of winter or late at night. So, which would you choose? Let me know in the comments.
