Hello dear friends, welcome to the south of France in the Provence region where we will explore several villages that are at the foot of the mountains Have you ever wanted to run away from everything and live simply, in the middle of nature? What if your mornings started with the chirping of crickets and the scent of lavender? Some places don’t need words – just sit and feel them. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wake up in a chic house, under a cliff, in a village suspended between heaven and earth? Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is built on a steep slope, between two huge cliffs Moustiers is known for its stone houses, narrow streets, medieval fountains, and sloping terrain that climbs to the chapel at the top. If you had the chance to choose a different life, would you choose it? Here you get the impression that everything was composed like an impressionist painting. What if you took a break from everything and came to Provence? True beauty has no internet signal. Provence doesn’t just mean lavender – it’s villages where every moment seems painted. How would it be to wake up every morning with a view like this? It’s hard to say whether the village was born from stone… or from legend. If Paris is the city of love, then Provence is the region of the heart. If your life needs peace and quiet, this village could be the answer. Provence is the place where nature painted with the warmest colors of the soul. In these villages, you don’t feel the need to say anything. Just be. The scent of lavender mixes with the warm stone and the sound of spring water. Isn’t that rock at risk of falling on the houses? A very red and strange earth, as if we were on another planet When you get here, you understand why some people never returned to the city. Who lives in that house tucked away in the mountains? You almost can’t believe a place like this even exists. When the sun hides behind the rock, the entire village seems painted in liquid gold. Among the old walls and oleander flowers, the village seems to whisper to you: “stay.” Maybe one day you’ll take a break too… and end up here. There’s no need to run away from the world – sometimes, just retreat to a place like this. The beauty here doesn’t shout – it touches you silently. We may not return to these places… but they remain within us. Imagine a peaceful morning, with coffee steam and birdsong… Every frame filmed here seems like it’s straight out of a French movie. Let the camera do the talking and the place will tell you everything you need to know. There’s no need for special effects here – reality is better than fiction. Of all the places I’ve been, this one stopped me in my tracks. And now, I ask you again: would you like to live here? It may not be a place for everyone – but it’s the perfect place for those who feel it. The rocks seem carved by an invisible hand that wanted to protect the village. The surrounding mountains are not just scenery – they are part of the story of the place. No one speaks loudly – because the place itself demands that you be calm.

One of the most beautiful villages in France
Since 1981, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie has been ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Church, ramparts, chapels, aqueduct, fountains, alliances of water and stone, pastel tones of tiles and tufa shape a homogeneous and living architectural ensemble. The sweetness of life that emanates from it naturally encourages us to respect and value this place, to discover it and protect it. The work of the land, perpetrated for centuries, is the link between the history and the future of the village.
“Somewhere in the south of France, far from the busy highways and the noise of the cities, there are villages that defy logic. Stone houses perched between steep cliffs, narrow alleys that climb like veins on the mountain face, and people… people who have lived for generations in the shadow of vertical limestone walls, as if in an ancestral dream.”
“These villages seem sculpted by the hand of time and abandoned in haste. Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, perhaps the most famous of them, hangs as if from the sky, under a huge rock that silently watches over everything. Here, a golden star, suspended between two peaks, seems to bless the village – a living legend, hanging by a chain, witness to the centuries.”
“But Moustiers is not alone. In Provence, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region and up to the Verdon, you will discover that France hides treasures that are difficult to describe. Aiguines, overlooking the Verdon canyon, clings to the edge of a steep world. Caves carved into limestone, orchards growing on impossible slopes, and houses that seem to have grown directly from the rock.”

The mountains rock
The cliffs on which the village is built and those dominating it formed natural lines of defence, but Moustiers also protected itself behind ramparts as for many villages, built in the Middle Ages.
Pierre de Pratis, commendatory prior, ordered in 1336 the enlargement of the church; the axis of the nave was not respected and we do not know if the prior wanted to incline the choir in the direction of Jerusalem or recall the position of the head of Christ on the cross. The current altar is a fourth century sarcophagus in white marble representing the passage of the Red Sea.

Hermoso, pero con unos años encima y para hacer las compras un kg de papas, carne, tomates etc, difícil para transportar, no pueden pasar vehículos y cuando llueve y hay que hacer compras, muy difícil sobretodo si sos mayor, solo caminar y subir esas pendientes cansa, se escucha en tu aliento, un buen ejercicio!!
