⁴ᴷ Hokkaido: Minami Wakkanai Station (北海道: 南稚内駅) – Japan Walking Tour (July, 2025)

To begin my journey around almost the entire island of Hokkaido, I took an 18-hour ferry ride and landed in Tomakomai. From there, my adventure around Hokkaido officially began.

This time, I traveled from Asahikawa, passed through Rumoi, and made my way to Wakkanai—the northernmost city in Japan. For this leg of the trip, I got off at Minami-Wakkanai Station, which is one stop before the northernmost train station.

Just a short walk from the station is the Orange Street shopping area, known as the northernmost entertainment district in Japan. It’s said to have over 100 restaurants and bars. Since I visited on a Monday, the streets felt rather quiet, but I can’t help but wonder what the atmosphere is like on weekends.
