Solo Camping & Motorcycle Adventure in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima JAPAN

The parking fee for Tsuruga-jo (also known as Aizu Wakamatsu Castle) is 200 yen for the first hour, and then 100 yen for each additional hour. But motorcycle is free! Tsuruga Castle is a castle located in Aizuwakamatsu city, Fukushima prefecture, and its official name is Wakamatsu Castle. Locals often refer to it as Tsuruga Castle. It is a familiar symbol of Aizuwakamatsu, and is also known as the site of the Boshin War. Tsuruga Castle suffered extensive damage during the Boshin War at the end of the Edo period and was once demolished, but was rebuilt in 1965. The castle tower’s stone walls were built by Gamou Ujisato using a construction method called Nozurazumi, which combines natural stones and features a gentle slope and wide base. It is said that this is the only castle tower with red tiles in Japan. Admission fee is 520 yen for adults. No photography allowed on the first floor. No eating, drinking or pets allowed. No smoking. [Matcha] 600 yen per seat (includes sweets) Located within Tsuruga Castle Park, this teahouse is said to have been built by Sen no Rikyu’s son, Shoan. On February 28, 1591 (Tensho 19), Sen no Rikyu incurred the wrath of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and was ordered to commit seppuku. At that time, the lord of Aizu, Gamo Ujisato, regretting that Sen no Rikyu’s tea ceremony would come to an end, hid Sen no Rikyu’s son, Shoan, in Aizu. It is said that this teahouse was built within the inner citadel when Sen no Rikyu was under his protection. The ice cream here was the best treat of the trip. When I think of Fukushima, the first thing that comes to mind is Kitakata ramen and sauce katsudon! The Byakkotai was a youth unit organized by the Aizu clan during the Boshin War at the end of the Edo period. It was made up of 16- to 17-year-old samurai, and is known for committing suicide on Mt. Iimori after their defeat in the Battle of Tonoguchihara. I was taken care of by the owner of this restaurant! I highly recommend this restaurant. I survived the torrential rain! The hot spring here has the best service of the trip. You can enjoy the open-air bath while watching the moon, and you can charge your cell phone, which is great for riders. (Please ask at the reception just in case.) Natsuigawa Valley Campsite is a free campsite (no reservations required).You can use the water, toilets (restroom), and grils.
