【盛岡⇄釜石】元急行のエリート列車 快速はまゆり53号・6号に乗って岩手のノスタルジックな車窓に浸る旅
Thank you for watching! The journey begins at Morioka Station, the main station in Iwate Prefecture. We board the “Rapid Hamayuri” train and head to Kamaishi Station on the coast of Iwate Prefecture. The train we are boarding is the 11:26am Rapid Hamayuri No. 53, which is already on standby at the platform. The Rapid Hamayuri runs from Morioka Station to Kamaishi Station via Hanamaki Station, and is unusual for a regular express train in that it has both unreserved and reserved seats. Since we are here, we take a reserved seat. In this day and age, when non-smoking cars are the norm, even the “no smoking” sign gives us a sense of history. Looking at it like this, it feels like we have traveled back in time to the atmosphere of an express train. This train was originally an express train, and it is rare to see a train that gives us such a taste of the old days. We press the button next to the boarding door to board the reserved seat. The seats are fully equipped with reclining seats, and if you’re lucky, the unreserved seats are also equipped with the same facilities. The seats look like this. It’s amazing that you can use this just by purchasing a reserved seat ticket for 530 yen. There is also a toilet on board. This is what it looks like when you sit down. It’s about 2 and a half hours until the last stop, so it’s quite comfortable for that amount of time. There is also a table, which is convenient for eating bento boxes, etc. You can recline your seat by pulling the lever on the armrest. There is no deck near the door, so it seems difficult to make phone calls. There is no Wi-Fi or power outlets, so be careful about that. The windows are large, so the view is excellent. You can enjoy the scenic view of the Kamaishi Line to your heart’s content. Departing from Morioka Station. The engine sound that enhances the journey is wonderful. Morioka Station used to be a place where many express trains departed and arrived. Is this a remnant of that long platform? The train goes in the opposite direction to Hanamaki Station, which is really long . If you want to change the direction of your seat, rotate it by stepping on the lever at your feet on the aisle side. Stops at Iwate Iioka Station. Only No. 53 departing from Morioka and No. 54 departing from Kamaishi stop at all stations between Morioka Station and Hanamaki Station. For this reason, the unreserved seats on the Tohoku Main Line can be a little crowded. Departs from Yawata Station. This is a stop for all Rapid HaMayuri trains. Except for No. 53 and No. 54, the only stations on the Tohoku Main Line that stop at are Morioka Station, Yawata Station, and Hanamaki Station. If you want to enjoy the explosive speed of the Tohoku Main Line, the Rapid HaMayuri, which runs in the morning and evening, is recommended. Leaving Shiwachuo Station, we say goodbye to the Tohoku Shinkansen viaduct. Departing from Hanamaki Station. The direction of travel changes from Hanamaki Station. After leaving the Tohoku Main Line, we finally enter the Kamaishi Line. The Rapid Train’s true potential is revealed as we pass through stations one after another. Shin-Hanamaki Arrived at Maki Station. A station where the Shinkansen also stops. It seems like there are quite a lot of people on board. When it’s not crowded, you can enjoy a panoramic and dynamic view from the train window, which is great. At Miyamori Station, the rapid train bound for Morioka passes Mayuri and encounters a top number. After about an hour and a half from Morioka Station, we arrived at Tono Station. It seems like quite a lot of people get off here. I wonder what was written in the blacked-out part. After exchanging for a local train, we departed from Tono Station . It was a small train with one car. It’s cute. Even though a parallel expressway has been built, there are still a fair number of train users… For locals and tourists, it’s clear that this is still an important train. As a train enthusiast, I’m happy to see this. I hope it continues for a long time. Passed Kamiarizumi Station. The surrounding scenery becomes increasingly rugged. Sennin Pass, which stands tall in this area, is… the best. It was a very difficult section, and the last section of the Kamaishi Line to be opened. There was a time when people traveled back and forth here on foot. I think the opening of the railway was truly a long-cherished wish. We go through the tunnel and then go back into another tunnel. A section that once took several hours to cross the mountain pass can now be completed in just a few minutes… Let’s not forget that there was a lot of effort and hardship behind this blessing. After traveling a while, you can see another set of tracks from the train window. This is not a separate line, but the real Kamaishi Line tracks. The train makes a large curve from where we are now and heads towards this point. This is known as the “Omega Loop,” and is one of the famous sights . Rikuchu-Ohashi Station can also be seen from the train window. The rapid train makes a large 180-degree curve as it descends the mountain pass. Rikuchu-Ohashi Station. Here we pass the station we saw from above. From below, we see the station we just passed. It’s also interesting to be able to see the tracks. This is an experience you don’t get to have very often, and I think it’s a way of enjoying the Kamaishi Line that only the Kamaishi Line can offer. Gradually, the number of shops has increased . We arrive at the last stop, Osano Station. There are many houses in the surrounding area, and it seems that the Kamaishi Chuo IC on the Sanriku Expressway is located around here. The rapid train Hamayuri crosses the Koshi River. From here, we’ll soon arrive at the final stop, Kamaishi Station . The station building symbolizes the steelworks, the Galaxy Railway, the town, and the line, and is very nice. On the way back, we take the rapid train Hamayuri No. 6 to Morioka. We ‘ll once again use the train we took earlier. Since we had a reserved seat on the way there, we had an unreserved seat on the way back, and luckily the unreserved seat also had a reclining seat, which was nice. We depart from Kamaishi Station. The stay time is about 20 minutes. Sightseeing will be for another time… We arrive at Morioka Station . On our way to Kamaishi, we’ll take the Seishun 18 Ticket with us on our trip… If you have the chance, please do so.
