【白駒池】長野の標高2100ｍに“もののけ姫”の世界！？日本一の苔の森 “もののけの森”｜北八ヶ岳｜白駒の池｜もののけの森｜長野旅行

We’ve arrived. We’re here in Nagano Prefecture— In a place called Sakubo Town. This is “Shirakoma Pond.” Yeah, it says Shirakoma Pond right there. Apparently, this place is famous for its moss and primeval forests. They said it’s Japan’s best moss forest. Our goal is… This way “Mononoke Forest.” Right now, we’re here. This way It’s a parking lot. It takes 45 minutes to  walk around the pond. From here, it’s 15 minutes to the pond. That’s close! Alright, let’s go! Ready to head out? Right from the entrance— The moss… It’s incredible… It’s such a vivid green. Moss is growing right from the entrance… It’s covering all kinds of trees. I wonder if Mononoke Forest will be even more amazing. It’s chilly Earlier, a bit lower down— I thought it would feel hot if the sun was out… But it’s actually pretty cold… It’s cold in here… It’s quiet. Very quiet! It’s pretty easy to walk, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s well maintained. True! Easy to walk The moss growing here… If you bring a magnifying glass or a loupe— And look closely like this— All the moss… It all looks the same But- If you get closer, they’re actually quite different. Each one is unique. Apparently, there are 512 types of moss here. I didn’t even know there were 512 kinds of moss! It’s beautiful here Hey, isn’t this amazing? Doesn’t it look like the trees are floating? Floating trees? Like those over there. It’s like there are holes in them. Or gaps underneath the roots. It’s all bumpy So bumpy. It’s so interesting… It’s early June now. Just before the rainy season But- It’s cold! So cold… It’s like….. green carpet goes on forever. The trees are pretty tall here, too. And there are a lot of them. The sky is clear, but— It doesn’t feel like much light is coming in. It keeps getting brighter and darker as we go. Earlier, we said There are 512 kinds of moss here, but— How many types of moss do you think exist in the world? 1000… Maybe 1500 or 5000? The correct answer was 20,000 types. No way! Apparently, there are 20,000 kinds of moss. The moss at Shirakoma Pond—
There are about 1,700 to 1,800 kinds of moss across Japan, and with about 512 kinds, Shirakoma Pond has the most in the country. Yeah, when you put it that way— They really might be different types. It’s so lush. So packed! This is amazing… You can really see it now. One, two, three… And a fourth one here… There are at least four kinds here. They’re surprisingly different. There are even some mushroom-like things growing. A pond! A pond! That’s amazing! The water is so clear! beautiful! Yeah, it’s crystal clear! It’s beautiful… The elevation is 2,000 meters. They say it’s the biggest pond in Japan at this elevation… The pond? Yeah, they said It’s the biggest pond at a high elevation. I thought it would be smaller… It reflects so beautifully I thought the moss was the main thing, but— The pond is amazing too! Being here reminds me of— Bob’s Cove Track in New Zealand. It felt just like this. We’re not done yet. It’s huge. Shall we keep walking? It’s a boat dock. amazing! Scary… It’s scary, but beautiful! The water isn’t that deep, huh? Well, it’s a pond after all. What a view! But still– New Zealand is on another level… The mountains there were like, “Boom!” And the lake was so blue. oh! It shook. A boat just rushed past. I wonder if Mononoke Forest is around here. Look at all this moss… Yeah, it’s incredible. The moss is getting thicker. Maybe we’re already in it? There’s no sign saying “Forest of…” Yeah, there isn’t. t feels like the moss is getting denser here… Especially around this area, right? The path is narrow. But it’s a pretty easy path to walk. It’s mostly flat. Even older people are walking here. I wonder if we’ve already passed Mononoke Forest. Maybe… Was that one spot earlier it…? Maybe that dense area was Mononoke Forest? Yeah, the moss was super dense there. But there was no sign, so… Right. I’m not sure… But it’s amazing everywhere here… Someday… I want to try camping. Camping? Here…? Maybe not here… Wouldn’t it be cold!? It’d be cold and scary, but… Wait… Hey, maybe this here.. This might be Mononoke Forest… Amazing! Wow! Beautiful! This looks totally different! That’s amazing… The moss looks so alive. wonderful! Really— Feels like Princess Mononoke could appear here. It says so, it says so! It really does! So this is the place, after all. I knew this was it! It’s like being in a Ghibli movie. The fluffy areas— Have so much moss growing… Amazing… Nature— Can create such beautiful scenery.. You can really create something like this… There are holes here and there, so— Like… in Princess Mononoke, those little white creatures— I wonder if they live here. It really feels like that kind of world… Really feels like that world. I wonder what Yakushima (the model for the movie) is like? Is it even more incredible…? We’ve come to a spot where the sunlight comes through. We’ve come to where the light can get in! It’s warm… Sunlight really is important! Yeah, it’s warm! It feels so different! It’s warm…
