【 温泉一人旅 】三朝温泉と桶屋旅館(Japanese onsen)

At the beginning of June, I took a solo trip to Misasa Onsen. Lately, it always seems to rain whenever I go filming. Misasa Onsen is located in Misasa Town, Tottori Prefecture. The hot spring town is divided by the Misasa River into two areas. Misasa Onsen is known for its radon-rich hot springs.Radon springs above 34°C are quite rare, even worldwide. Under skies that look ready to pour,
I walk through the town of ryokans. This time, I’m staying at Okeya Ryokan,
a traditional inn founded in 1913. The name comes from its origins—as a cooper’s workshop. The entrance speaks of history. Thinking of how many travelers this doorway has welcomed
over the years makes me feel deeply moved. The inn’s century-old presence
made my heart race as a fan of wooden architecture. Here’s the room I stayed in. A nostalgic Japanese-style room with a Showa-era charm. This atmosphere adds a deep sense of emotion to my solo journey. I head straight for the onsen. There’s a reason I really wanted to stay at Okeya this time… It’s because there’s one hot spring
I had been longing to try. I had always been drawn to this mysterious,
captivating bath space. At last, my wish came true. They say the water gets cooler on rainy days,
and it wasn’t hot this day either, But I still had a truly blissful time. The wooden ceiling is steeped in history. There weren’t many guests that day,
so it felt like having a private bath. It was a wonderful bath.
Thank you very much. After the bath, the rain had let up,
so I went out to explore the hot spring town. Crossing Misasa Bridge, I headed into town. The Mitoku River was running high. At the foot of the bridge,
there’s an open-air riverside bath, But since someone was bathing,
I refrained from filming. Speaking of dinner,
since I wanted to shoot during the evening,
I ate outside this time. A statue from the movie “Misasa Kouta” and Misasa Bridge. Down the stairs next to it, you can reach the riverside onsen. Just nearby is a charming old street. I walked a bit more. Ashiyu (foot bath), Yakushi-no-Yu. I found a side street and decided to check it out. Side alleys in onsen towns
always spark curiosity. This time, that curiosity led me to a shrine. It was Misasa Shrine. While having dinner at a local izakaya
and chatting with some locals, I realized curfew at the inn was approaching. What I saw during the day
looked quite different at night. I headed back while admiring the inn at night. The streetlights gently lit up
the wooden facade of the ryokan. Back at the inn, I enjoyed another bath. Bathing to the chorus of frogs
was deeply soothing. The next morning, The rain had completely cleared. I had a traditional Japanese breakfast, Then packed up
and left Okeya Ryokan. It was a lovely stay.
Thank you for your hospitality. Leaving Misasa Onsen,
I headed next to… Mitokusan Sanbutsuji Temple,
famous for the Nageire-dō Hall. As a place of mountain asceticism,
it’s surrounded by deep mountains. From the parking lot,
you first head to the main temple. Nageire-dō is closed during bad weather,
such as rain. So please check the temple’s official website
before you visit. Due to rain, the trail had been closed
until just yesterday. I entered the path from the roadside. At the Sanbutsuji entrance office,
I paid the admission fee. First, I made my way to the main hall. You must climb a long staircase to reach it. Along the way,
you’ll pass several sub-temples. Kaijō-in Rinkō-in The staircase continues on and on. At last, the main hall came into view. The worn-down steps speak
of Sanbutsuji’s long history. This is the main hall of Sanbutsuji. Though Nageire-dō gets all the attention,
this hall is also beautiful in its own right. Next to the main hall
is the reception to head toward Nageire-dō. Actually, you’re not allowed to hike to Nageire-dō alone. So as a solo traveler,
I wasn’t able to enter. I knew about the rule,
but I had hoped I could at least get close… It was naïve thinking.
Definitely poor research on my part. Someday, I hope to come back
with a friend and try again. As a note to myself,
here’s a reminder to wear proper gear for the hike. I shook off my disappointment
and strolled around the temple grounds. After leaving Sanbutsuji,
I went to the Nageire-dō Viewing Point. From afar, I could see the Nageire-dō… I vowed to come back and try again
as I left Sanbutsuji. Next, I visited
Mimasaka-Takiō Station in Tsuyama, Okayama. This station was featured in the film
“Otoko wa Tsurai yo.”
Built in 1934, before the war,
it’s a very old wooden station. And it’s still in operation today. There are barely any shops or houses nearby. The station is surrounded
by peaceful countryside. It feels like time has stopped,
with the platform preserved just as it was. There’s only one track,
so trains can’t pass each other here. A rare, still-operating station
that preserves the prewar atmosphere—
what did you think? Although the weather
wasn’t kind throughout this trip,
It was still a deeply healing experience. There are still many fascinating places
in Tottori and Okayama,
So I hope to return
when I get another chance. I hope this video
helps inspire your own travels.
Thank you for watching. Next time, I’ll be sharing
Okunoin at Mount Koya
and Café Katsuragikan. I’d love for you to watch again.
