Oigami Onsen in Gunma Prefecture has an annual festival to celebrate their local god’s discovery of the hotsprings after a battle with another god. The local god is symbolized by a snake and every year a snake mikoshi ( portable shrine) 30 meters long is carried about. Every 12 years on the Year of the Snake a special 108 meter is heaved around.
