The third day of our 5-day, 4-night staff tour in Hokkaido was a fast-paced but surprising day. In the morning, our first stop was the ruins of Goryokaku Castle . This was Japan’s first Western-style castle , built in 1864. Four years after the castle was completed, the Hakodate War took place. Enomoto Takeaki, a retainer of the Tokugawa shogunate, led his troops to occupy the castle and fought with the Meiji Emperor’s troops for a month before Enomoto surrendered. Now only the outer walls of the castle remain, and the interior of the castle has been converted into a garden . In 1952, it was designated as a special historical site in Japan, symbolizing the historical turning point between the end of the shogunate and the Meiji Restoration. We took the elevator to the top floor to enjoy the panoramic view . The view from a high vantage point was excellent. The castle walls of Hakodate are in the shape of a five-pointed star. The star-shaped castle quietly tells the story of the end of the shogunate. History and nature are interwoven in a calm and elegant way . Wow~ It takes a little courage to step on the glass and look down. Take the elevator to the next floor. There are all kinds of tea drinks and ice cream. There are also all kinds of souvenirs for sale. There are all kinds of flowers and plants planted in the hall. The space is kept quite quiet. Then we came to the bustling Hakodate Morning Market. The Hanguan Morning Market is a treasure market in the hearts of travelers. There are all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables and all kinds of fresh seafood and fish for sale. It is full of freshness and local flavor. The must-eats are king crabs, long-legged crabs and other large and plump seafood . You can choose them on the spot . You can ask the store to help you Boiled Hokkaido sea urchin is also a must-try delicacy. The sea urchin is fed with kelp, which is abundant in Hokkaido, so the flavor is very delicious. Watch the chef carefully shake it with salt water to remove the internal organs and bitterness , leaving only the most delicate sea urchin roe. It has a golden taste that melts in your mouth. Another must-try is the seafood bowl with sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, and sweet shrimp filling the bowl . There are many seafood bowl restaurants gathered in Yokocho Market, and the indoor market of Hanguan Morning Market has a wide variety of goods . There are all kinds of high-end fruits that are said to be ready to eat without washing. The must-eats are cantaloupe slices and fresh vegetables . Purple asparagus is rare and more expensive than green ones. There are also various snacks and various dry goods. As souvenirs, you must buy a variety of vacuum-packed seafood and snacks such as scallops, dried scallops, squid strips, etc. There is also a food area where you can take the fruits and snacks you bought to the seating area to enjoy. The second market also has a variety of dried fruits and vegetables, as well as small rolls bigger than your face, as well as fished squid and freshly cut seafood. The outdoor market is crowded with people and feels more down-to-earth. You can stroll leisurely and there are also a variety of things. We picked a box of strawberries and ate them on the street. The strawberries were really sweet and delicious. The market has everything from fresh fruits and seafood, which is dazzling . Here you can not only taste freshly cut seafood, but also feel the vitality and enthusiasm of Hokkaido fishermen. After visiting the market, we have to rush to We will take the 12:15 train to Onuma Park Station to experience the Japanese train journey. We arrived at the station 30 minutes in advance to meet up, so we will go to the station first. There are all kinds of lunch stalls at the station, which look very delicious. Then swipe the ticket to enter the station, cross the platform , and take the Polaris train. The scenery along the way is picturesque. After leaving the station, drive to the restaurant to enjoy Chinese food. The Chinese food is Ishikari seafood hot pot. The ingredients are quite rich and fried shrimp tempura is also included. After eating, use the discount coupon to buy a two-color soft serve ice cream and take a photo with the pair of bears at the door. After lunch, we will go to Onuma Park. Onuma Quasi-National Park is a famous shooting spot by the lake. Take a walk and take photos. The air is filled with the fragrance of the forest. Everything seems peaceful and poetic . Then, drive to the Bear Ranch. Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch is located near Lake Toya. It is a popular attraction for many travelers to arrange a half-day tour. There are nearly a hundred Hokkaido brown bears in the ranch, ranging from furry little bears to huge and ferocious giant bears. The park adopts an age-based management method, dividing the bears into kindergarten bear areas, young bear areas, adult bear areas , and bear apartment areas according to their age . Each area has different ways of interaction and observation points. Visitors can observe the growth process of the bears. The park sells bear biscuits for feeding the bears. As long as the bears have biscuits in their hands, they will stand up and wave fiercely. The giant bears will even bang on the iron windows. In these brown bear areas, you can feel the shock of brown bears. The bears living in the apartment cages feel particularly hungry, so we bought a lot of biscuits to feed them. In the adult bear area, this bear is the most serious about foraging and catches the food very accurately. But bears are not the only protagonists here. Crows are watching closely. A silent symbiotic war is going on. The bear biscuits thrown out are often grabbed by crows first, forming an ecological system where bears and crows eat together. Oh~oh~that’s amazing (crow’s cry). Some of these bears are lying down waiting for food, while others are too busy sleeping to bother with them. It’s quite interesting to see all kinds of bears and interact with them here. The last stop is Noboribetsu Jigokudani, a natural wonder in Hokkaido that is quite stunning. It is the core area of Noboribetsu Onsen and is a relic formed by a volcanic eruption 10,000 years ago. There are many hiking trails and observation decks in the park. Sulfur steam overflows from the gray and brown rock formations to form a magnificent and mysterious volcanic landscape. The boiling water, steam and desolate rock walls interweave into a mysterious atmosphere , like the entrance to the underworld, so it is called Jigokudani. Although it is called hell, it is full of the original energy of the earth. It is a very healing attraction that leaves a perfect end to our journey today. That’s all for today’s sharing.
