Minomata, Abandoned Village in Ikeda Fukui [4K]

This video documents a visit to Minomata (美濃俣), an abandoned village in Ikeda Town, Fukui Prefecture. It was filmed in June 2025 using a GoPro Hero 13.

Minomata is located upstream along the Mizuumi River (水海川) in Ikeda. In 1908 (Meiji 41), it was home to 32 households and 229 residents. Today, it is a deserted village. Although little remains of daily life, traces such as stone walls, the site of a former shrine, ruins, and a cemetery quietly speak of the lives once lived here.

At the site of Yakushi Shrine, several stone monuments and Jizo statues are enshrined. Fresh flowers had been placed at two graves higher up in the village, and the area appears to be well maintained. It seems that someone still visits and cares for this place even today.

Translation of the stone monument at 5:59

This world chases dream upon dream.
Fifty years ago, it was a peaceful hamlet of twenty-three households,
but landslides and repeated floods left only three homes within a year.
I wonder how it will change in the next fifty years.
Yet, I pray this forest remains unharmed.
