スキー抜きでも最高｜山形・蔵王温泉で大満足の湯けむり旅

The next destination after Semi Onsen and Yamadera was Zao Onsen. It is said to be a hot spring area that opened over 1,900 years ago. It has more of an image as a ski resort rather than a historic place. This time, I skipped skiing and came to leisurely enjoy visiting different hot springs. Checked into the inn and went straight to dinner. Zao’s specialty: Jingisukan (grilled lamb) It is said that Zao is also the birthplace of Jingisukan. There are many restaurants that serve Jingisukan. In the early Showa era (around the 1930s), Zao was thriving in wool production, and as a result, the number of restaurants serving lamb dishes increased. It is said that this distinctive domed iron pan was ordered and made by a local from Yamagata at a local foundry. It is said to have been inspired by the lamb dishes cooked on iron helmets seen during detention in Siberia. Now that you mention it, it really does look like an iron helmet… After dinner, it’s time to visit the public baths. Zao has three public baths: Kamiyu, Shimoyu, and Kawarayu. All of them have wonderful hot spring water, but Kawarayu here is truly special. That’s because it’s a “bottom-spring” hot spring where the water bubbles up directly from beneath the bathtub. It’s a place that hot spring enthusiasts drool over. A dreamy hot spring town wrapped in steam. I’ll enjoy a morning bath. It’s a wooden public bathhouse with wonderful rustic charm. The water is being poured abundantly. This time, we stayed at Yoshidaya Ryokan. The large communal bath at Yoshidaya Ryokan. The overflow is beautiful. Yamagata Prefecture is actually a ramen kingdom. It seems to be the prefecture that spends the most on ramen dining out in Japan. It’s incredibly delicious.

🗾 前回の瀬見温泉と山寺から、次に向かったのは山形・蔵王温泉。

【♨️蔵王温泉】
蔵王連峰の西のふもとに広がる温泉地、蔵王温泉。
開湯は1900年以上前と言われている歴史ある温泉地です。

ここのお湯は、pH1.6前後の強酸性硫黄泉。
強酸性と聞くとびっくりするし、実際入ると肌がピリピリします。でもいざ入ってみると、血管拡張作用で血流を良くしてくれ、古い角質を柔らかくしてくれるので、ツルっとした肌触りがして気持ちがいい。

冬にはスキー客で賑わう蔵王だけど、今回は雪がない季節に訪れたので、のんびりと温泉巡り。これが最高だった。
湯けむりに包まれて幻想的な温泉街を散歩しつつ、「上湯」「下湯」「川原湯」の三つの共同浴場を巡ります。どこも新鮮なお湯がざばざば掛け流されていて素晴らしいです。
中でも「川原湯共同浴場」は格別で、浴槽のすぐ下からお湯がぷくぷく湧いてくる“足元湧出”の温泉で、生まれたてのお湯が味わえます。ここは温泉マニアがおぎゃあおぎゃあと泣いて喜ぶ垂涎の地となっています。私もたっぷり堪能しました。
