【岐阜Vlog】懐かしくて、やさしい。白川郷と馬籠宿を巡る | 日本の原風景に心癒される旅

The setting for this trip was the atmospheric Gifu Prefecture. It was a trip surrounded by old-fashioned townscapes and nostalgic scenery. We spent a relaxing time here. I hope I can share that healing time with you. The trip began in Shirakawa-go. This area, surrounded by steep mountains, is one of Japan’s snowiest areas. Even in mid-May, snow remained on the mountain tops, and the harsh cold of winter was apparent. The long-awaited view of Shirakawa-go. I was so happy to finally see it that my steps became lighter. Shirakawa-go is also registered as a World Heritage Site. There are more than 100 large and small gassho-style houses remaining, and it is a special village that conveys the original Japanese landscape to the present. The gassho-style houses have impressive triangular thatched roofs. The angles and structure are calculated and designed to withstand heavy snow. Looking at it up close, you can see that it is covered in dense thatch. I am amazed at the careful handiwork. It is an original Japanese landscape that I hope will remain forever. A place where rural culture and traditional ways of life still live on, truly a place that makes you want to call it “Japan’s hometown.” A nostalgic streetscape where time seems to have stopped. The cool sound of wind chimes gently echoes. Nostalgic and warm. The scenery that makes your heart ache is what relaxes you. Why do I feel nostalgic even though it’s my first time here? Perhaps it’s this soothing scenery that makes me feel that way. After walking around the village, we went to the Wada family, where you can experience the life of a gassho-style house. We got a glimpse of the warmth of the past. The simultaneous water spraying, which is said to be a seasonal feature of autumn in Shirakawa-go. Once a year , the water cannons installed to protect the gassho-style houses from fires spray water all at once as part of an inspection. I’d like to see it someday. We went up the stairs to the second floor. On the mezzanine floor, tools from the past have been carefully preserved. It is clear that it is still being cherished and passed down today. When you go up to the room on the second floor, you can see the underside of the roof up close. It has an exciting atmosphere, a bit like a secret base. A space surrounded by handmade tools that breathe wisdom and ingenuity. There is something nostalgic about it, and it soothes the soul. Outside the window is a peaceful rural mountain view. I wish I could see a view like this from my window every day. I am soothed by the tranquil scenery of Shirakawa-go. Next, we head to an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of the village. Ogimachi Castle Ruins Observation Deck is located on a hilltop in the village. This is a special spot where you can see the entire townscape of gassho-style houses. If you look closely, you will see that all the houses are facing the same direction. This is because they were built with consideration for the flow of wind and sunlight , so that it would be cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Shirakawa-go looks even more beautiful from the high ground. Since we walked a lot, we made a little detour to this shop. Attracted by the cool sound, I buy a cider. I also buy some dango and relax on a bench. Both the cider and the mitarashi dango are a perfect match for the scenery of Shirakawa-go. The fragrant and gentle sweetness of the mitarashi dango. Simple and delicious. The crisp carbonation soothes my tired body. The nostalgic and beautiful scenery fills my heart. The next destination is a beautiful pond on the approach to the shrine. First, I visit Nemichi Shrine. I stroll around Monet’s Pond on the side of the approach. This beautiful pond is commonly known as “Monet’s Pond” because it resembles Monet’s masterpiece “Water Lilies”. It was originally an unnamed reservoir, not a tourist spot or anything. Its beauty became a hot topic on social media, and now it is a popular place visited by many people. Nishikigoi swimming gracefully in the clear water. A landscape that looks like a painting unfolds before my eyes. I can’t take my eyes off the way they swim so comfortably. It has a mysterious charm that makes you want to look at it forever. It was a soothing moment for me, with the beautiful scenery. On the second day of my trip to Gifu, I first visited Magome-juku. Magome-juku is a post town along the Nakasendo road, which was built in the Edo period. If you go right, you go to Edo, and if you go left, you go to Kyoto. The road that supported the travels of such travelers still retains the same atmosphere. A wooden waterwheel spins round and round, surrendering itself to the flowing water. It blends softly into the atmosphere of Magome-juku. Old-fashioned houses continue along the stone-paved slope. If you look over, you will see antiques standing casually. The retro atmosphere gently deepens the travel mood. It’s like I’ve wandered into the Edo period. The murmuring of water echoes through Magome-juku. Even though I’m walking along the road, it feels like I’m surrendering myself to nature. I’m enveloped in the comfort of a forest bath. We arrived at the observation deck just beyond the post town. It seems we have climbed quite high. We are at eye level with the mountains standing opposite. What a pleasant view. Everywhere you look, there are picturesque views, and it is fun just to walk leisurely. It was a wonderful place to immerse yourself in a nostalgic world. After walking up many slopes, we took a break at the shop. We had Gifu’s local dish “Gohei mochi”. The fragrant aroma of miso sauce floated softly. It was so delicious that it relaxed my tired body. You could really feel the grains of rice, and it was very chewy. It was a nostalgic and comforting taste. At the end of the trip, we went to a cafe that we had been interested in. It was a coffee shop renovated from a 100-year-old traditional house. When we opened the door, we were surrounded by a moist and calm air. Delicious cakes lined up in the display case. The aroma of coffee gently tickled our noses. Our hearts fluttered in the wonderful space. This cafe serves coffee made with high-quality beans grown at high altitudes. As the name of the cafe suggests, you can choose the flavor based on the depth of roasting: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. I ordered the 1st dark roast coffee and an iced latte. The meringue that came with the drink was cute. I also had the Mountains Mont Blanc that I was looking forward to. The base was a matcha dacquoise, reminiscent of the foot of the mountain . The taste was full of Japanese flavor, with chestnuts and matcha. It was so delicious that my cheeks almost dropped. There were chestnuts on both the top and middle of the mountain, making it an irresistible dessert for chestnut lovers. The coffee was mild, mellow, and easy to drink. Both the iced latte and the dark roast coffee had an elegant taste. It was a blissful moment spent looking at the view from the window. This elegant time spent relaxing. It was the perfect way to end my trip.
